| Mike Doughty – Looking at the World From the Bottom of a Well Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love that word "decathecting". It's kinda like taking a Corvette down an emotional highway, and then having to walk back to the place you started from. (At least to me) | |

| Idlewild – As If I Hadn't Slept Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I haven't the first idea what this song is about, but I just love the guitar chord that comes right after the "some kind of victory" line... (Dsus2?) | |
| Idlewild – Idea Track Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Actually, this is a rather sad tale once you look up Hugh Miller. Hugh Miller was a both a creationist and a geologist, who came into great personal conflict over the concept of a great global flood (Noah's Ark) and his observed scientific evidence. According to legend, his inability to reconcile these inconsistancies caused him to take his own life. Pretend it works awhile.... It's your grave. |

| Idlewild – These Wooden Ideas Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This a very political and brilliant song. I agree with tannierock that conformity is at the center of these lyrics. This wooden idea (wood not being the strongest substance) is your method of repetition... Recapitulation of already expressed ideas? This wooden idea is how you sell reduction. Any questions? |

| Catherine Wheel – Judy Staring At The Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This one's not that mysterious. There's a genuine quality to Judy that just can't be fully expressed becuase of her heroin (heroine) addiction. Its a song of sympathy and remose and, possibly, affection. Don't stare at the sun kiddies... |

| Idlewild – Disconnected Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is a classic song of restlessness and feeling that "I gotta get out of this place". Very similar to the sentiments expressed in the song "Middletown Dreams" by Rush (Power Windows) or the feelings that Bob Dylan felt growing up in midwest America and feeling like it just wasn't where he was meant to live out all of his days. There's a connection to the friends and people he's grown up with, but a compelling sense that he's in the wrong setting and needs to make the difficult chioce to break away and fulfill something greater. |

| Idlewild – I Don't Have The Map Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This strikes me as a situation where Roddy has an unconventional and unpopular viewpoint on a particular (probably major) topic, and brings another person around to his way of thinking. However, the other person isn't comfortable with the feeling of ostracism that goes along with this viewpoint, and dislikes the feelings of isolation. Roddy's way of saying "welcome to the club... the truth ain't always popular" Of course it could also be about Gilligan's Island |
