If you don't think marijuana is what he's referring to, stop and think about it for a second "make ev'rybody feel high... look for yours on earth" what else could "yours" possibly be referring to besides a "high?" the entire song isnt about weed, but the fact that its mentioned is pretty obvious and non-debatable. also, is peter tosh the other singer in this song? |

Nowhere in this song is homosexuality even hinted at besides the word "closet," which, as described before, could be a metaphor for anything that you internalize. Anyways, great song. As said before, its about someone who has so much to say but he is keeping it all locked up inside, like a baby that hasn't learned to talk yet. I was watching a special on VH1 the other day, and they were talking about how when Dave Matthews was a bartender, he wrote a lot of the songs that he later preformed with his band, but at the time he was petrified to share them with anyone. Perhaps this song is one of those that he wrote at that time, and his feelings of not being able to share his music with anyone gave rise to these lyrics. |

Thanks RayMan, you explained it pretty well. "Wings of maybe" would then be a metaphor along the same lines of "blind stars of fortune," both of them relating to fate. I think I get it now, thanks :) |

This is one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs, with beautiful lyrics and a great riff. One part I never understood was the "wings of maybe, down in birds of prey" lyric. What exactly is the meaning of that phrase? Does it have to do with the eagle somehow? |
