Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dani California Lyrics 15 years ago
In Wikipedia I came to find this information, supported by the guy who wrote the lyrics. So Dani IS the same 'girl' in Californication.
I'm posting the column about the origins of the song here:

"Throughout the song, lyricist Anthony Kiedis laments the early death of Dani, a poor, young Southern girl who eventually lived in California, became a mother and lived a hard, fast, unsettled life.[4] Kiedis has commented that the character of "Dani" is an embodiment of all the women with whom he has had relationships. The song narrates much of Dani's life, starting with her birth in Mississippi and apparently culminating with her death in the badlands of North Dakota.[5]

Dani first appeared in the 1999 song "Californication", which includes the lyrics "Teenage bride with a baby inside/Gettin' high on information" although the girl's name is not specified. She was next mentioned in the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 2002 single "By the Way" as "Dani the girl". It is also possible that the character is alluded to in the 1999 single "Scar Tissue" from the "Californication" album through the lyrics "Blood loss in a bathroom stall/Southern girl with a scarlet drawl" and "Push me up against the wall/Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra." On the subject of "Dani California", Kiedis is quoted as saying: "When this funky groove came up it struck me as a perfect place to actually tell a story. It sort of revealed itself to me that it's been the same character, just kind of developing. At first I didn't realize that I was writing about the same girl."[6]

Guitarist John Frusciante utilized various instruments and effects devices in order to achieve the textures and treatments used throughout the song, including Mellotron, Moog effect pedals, and a Doepfer modular synthesizer, used for the filtering and processing of pre-recorded tracks. Although it is sometimes low in the mix, the main riff, (which is heard primarily in the first verse) plays throughout as an underlying tone."

That makes things clear, and makes more sense than most other comments I guess.
I have to say I'm suprised about the information, though kinda I wonder where did you get such an accurate one.

Yet, as I said it makes sense, even though I find it hard to imagine Dani as a male, your explanations are pretty convincing. Good job and Thanx for sharing.

Song is awesome, there's no doubt about that.

But in all these posts, I could barely read any idea about "the meaning" of this song.
Because actually I don't wanna know if people loves the song or not, it's music you can love it, hate it I don't care. I wanna know "if you know" anything about these lyrics, what they're trying to tell us ?

I think I'm gonna agree with others who think Dani California is the same girl in "Californication" song.

Funeral for a Friend – History Lyrics 15 years ago
"But I don't care for your sweet scent
Or the way you want me
More than I want you"

I also think these lyrics here could also be about some kind of an addiction. Like alchohol for instance. He denies that he needs it or actually he "wants" it.
"you want me more than i want you" could be just an excuse for his addiction, and denial is very common among addicts.

Funeral for a Friend – History Lyrics 15 years ago
QUOTE: I was just thinking about the lines;

"Archers in your arches
Raise your fingers for one last salute"

And I think this may actualy come from a historical base. The band are Welsh (duh), where the longbow was originaly created. The longbow, in the English army, was the source of the classic two finger gesture (the two finger salute), which was originaly directed towards the French as a way of showing that you still had them (they tended to cut of the fingers of bowmen who they captured) and were going to use them to kill a few people now.

Other than the Romeo lines, I can see no other links like that though.

---

I can not more agree with you.
I think these lyrics are directly connected with a historical event or something like that. I think it's a good song written a bit of nationalistic touch.

My Chemical Romance – Vampires Will Never Hurt You Lyrics 18 years ago
"Story Of A Man A Woman And The Corpses Of A Thousand Evil Men"

by saying "Vampires" he mean those evil men or a kind of society. (I agree with earthsick about this idea)

he don't wanna be like them, but they're all around him, forcing him to change himself and be one of them. he also afraids that his girlfriend is diseasing by their poison.. "I'll never let them hurt you, I promise" he sacrifice himself to protect her, says "and if they come and get me, you put the stake in my heart- and save me" it's not about vampires but about vampire-like people that sucking your feeling to dead.. I love this band..

by the way, about whispering part he says something like that;

And as always, innocent like roller coasters.
Fatality is like ghosts in snow and you have no idea what you're up against
because I've seen what they look like.
Becoming perfect as if they were sterling silver chainsaws going cascading.

I read it from a site I dont remember but if u listen carefully it's really something like that however I think it's a bit long for that part but also I think there is more than one whispering at a time. anyway I hope you guys find it useful.

My Chemical Romance – Early Sunsets Over Monroeville Lyrics 18 years ago
I can't say "it not about the movie" cause it is. but also, (I think) there is an alternate meaning in the song. he's putting a gun to his ex-girlfriend's head. but not literally ofcourse, he's trying to kill her in his mind, removing from his heart and want to forget all the memories about her. but he can't. not that easily. but he wish he could cause says "if i had the guts." he says "by the last thing you said?" this is probably "i loved you" or any other sort of word that can be painful say while breaking up.cause later he says "and in saying you loved me", well it changes nothing after you dumped. once she's gone, it only remains as a bad memory after all..

I'm looking a bit too emotional to this song cause MCR and especially "Early Sunsets Over Monroeville" is really important to me. whenever I listen it, I imagine myself putting a sixshooter to her head..and evertime I try I fail to pull the goddamn trigger, and in the end putting it to my own head and then...
