The Evolution Control Committee – Rocked By Rape Lyrics | 16 years ago |
@ nemt, I think you got it mostly right, but just two areas, where you have... "Brutal bizarre critical bombing." I think he actually says "Voodoo" instead of brutal. Also he doesn't say "The gang drew.", the line is definitely "where gangs rule", which makes much more sense anyway. That's about all I can see. |
DVDA – What Would Brian Boitano Do Pt. Ii Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I Love this song, but I have just one question, WHO THE HELL IS BRIAN BOITANO? |
Christy Moore – Follow Me Up To Carlow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well this song is about a Rebellion that happened in Ireland in the 16th Century, lead by "Faich McHugh". It's specifically about the Battle of "Glenmalure" which was a Great Victory for the Irish Rebels over the English (lead by "Fitzwilliam"). They defeated the English army and Killed Fitzwilliam (who was the Crown's representative), and then send his Severed head over to Queen Elizabeth ("now for black Fitzwilliam's head We'll send it over, dripping red, to Queen Liza and her ladies") I love this song, very Nationalistic, Anti-English and Romanticized, one of my favourite Traditional songs. |
Nightwish – 10th Man Down (feat. Tapio Wilska) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song defiantly kicks ass! I first heard it in an Anime Music Video (the video you guys were talking about), it's a pretty good AMV, but now I just love the song in it's own right, and I'm really starting to like Nightwish in general. This song certainly has a great combination of High Female and Low Male vocals and of-course great Rock Music! I don't completely understand all the lyrics though (can anyone offer a more detailed explanation?) Specifically what exactly does he mean by "the great white hunter", if I remember correctly this was a term used in the 19th century to describe European Colonialists who would go to Africa and Hunt "big game", but what does it mean in this song? And what does "10th patriot at the gallow´s pole!" refer to? Is it perhaps that he is going to be Hanged for being a coward? (Because he can't take anymore war?) |
Yes – Homeworld (The Ladder) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love this song! And of-course I Love the Homeworld Game, which is where I first heard the song (on the end credits). I used to turn on the game and play the credits often just to listen to this song, that was before I was able to download the song, now I can listen to it anytime. The Lyrics are, as have already been stated, about the back-story of Homeworld, that is a group of space-faring refugees trying to find their Ancestral home planet. There are also several references to events on Kharak (the humans previous planet), which are only elaborated on in the History section of the Homeworld manual. (i.e. you have to read the entire back story to really understand this song.) For instance the opening chapter in the manual is call "A Question of Origins". I'd also like to talk about the meaning of a few interesting lines in the song... "Only in the recent past Seeking for to realise Skyward shone Like beacons A question of origin" This is about the Kharak people's discovery that they are not native to that planet and that their true Home world is somewhere "skyward" i.e. in outer space. "Ten thousand millions free To the westward light The dreamers represent This arc of peace" I think this is referring to the Mother ship which carries the Refugees, it is the "arc of peace". "Ancient ones... they watch And listen Carry our wishes... Took upon themselves to guide us Through the endless skies" I believe the "Ancient ones" here, are the Bentusi, who are an ancient and advanced race who you encounter in the game, they help guide the humans. "Send, ascending to the future Nothing can ever change us now We follow the sun We follow the sun We follow the sun" I believe that is line may be linked to the fact that they are trying to find Earth and the Sun's Solar system, they are searching for our sun in the galaxy. (though that's just my speculation). Anyway, I love this song! |
Queen – We Will Rock You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Hey, this is my first post here, I'm surprised to see that people seem to be confused about this song, for me the meaning is clear. Ok the way I always thought of this song is that it is about a Revolution. Freddy Mercury is the Voice of the Ruler (a King or Dictator or something) and he is speaking to a crowd of Protestors (Revolutionaries), He's trying to bring them down, saying things you're a "big disgrace". The People respond with just shouting "We Will Rock You!", meaning We Will Bring you down or We Will Overthrow you! "Waving your banner all over the place" Clearly the crowd is carrying Revolutionary banners. "Buddy you're an old man poor man Pleading with your eyes gonna make you some peace some day You got mud on your face You big disgrace Somebody better put you back into your place" This bit shows this clearly, the poor people are rising up and their ruler says get back into your place. i.e. I'm in charge you're just a lowly peasant. I assume that in the end the people storm the Ruler's palace and overthrow him. To me this is defiantly an anti-authority song, I don't know if my interpretation is 100% correct but that's the way I've always imagined this song. |
