| Apoptygma Berzerk – Cambodia Lyrics

As MHHD2 mentioned, this song is a cover of Kim Wilde's fantastic 1981 version. The song is (quite literally) about a soldier who is called to conduct bombing raids on Cambodia from an Air Force base in Thailand. When he returned, he was haunted by his actions. The truth of his deeds were lost in Cambodia... |

Azraeldrah is right - a lot of this song is an allusion to Canterbury Tales. The story has a number of medieval characters tell their tales - one of which is known as the Miller. The 'her' whose face turns pale probably refers to the Prioress (aka Nun) after hearing the Miller's bawdy tale. The virgins 'leaving for the coast' probably refers to the pilgrimage to Canterbury, England which the story is framed around. |

| Blondie – Rip Her to Shreds Lyrics

I think it is interesting that this song is by Blondie, a group with the same name as a Sunday comic. The reference to Brenda Starr (another 'dull' Sunday comic) confirms this theory. In this context, the title makes sense: "rip her to shreds" could refer to ripping up a newspaper. I also wonder if the Mimi (think tons of makeup) from the Drew Carey Show is not a tribute to this song's inspiration. |
