Nirvana – Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is sort of depressing in the right light. I think this song is about wanting Jesus to want him, but thinking he will never be good enough. Great moody song though. RIP Kurt Cobain, dead twelve years today. Along with Layne Staley, dead four years ago today...can't believ they died on the same day. Anyway, this song is flippin' awesome.

Nirvana – Heart-Shaped Box (Box Set version) Lyrics 18 years ago
Hooray for you, double hooray for me..I posted it whoo!

Yes, the lyrics are a bit doomier, so the all over effect is a little more effective.

RIP KURT COBAIN! Twelve years ago today, he died. May he rest in peace and may his music go on.

BTW - Did you know Layne Staley, the lead singer of Alice in Chains, died on the same day as Kurt Cobain, just eight years later? So RIP Layne Staley as well, just four years ago today.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit (Box Set version) Lyrics 18 years ago
Whoo! First to comment and I actually put this up so yay.

Uhm, this song, if you listen to it, is more garage-sounding and all together WAAAY more awesome and less commercial than the other Teen Spirit. I think it shows way more emotion. To me, it's about people who go crazy at parties, or something like that. Or "scene" people who think they're so awesome, but really, they're just stupid or shallow.

As I said, I think this version of the song better comes through on the actual meanings of the song. If you haven't listened to it, but like the other Teen Spirit, I highly reccomend you listen to this version.

Lead Belly – Ain't It A Shame Lyrics 18 years ago
I know Nirvana covered this song and I think it's pretty cool a more modern artist would appreciate an older one. Leadbelly was the...gosh, long time ago, huh? Anyway, I love this song. I sing it all the time...quite catchy. I think it's about Sunday's being sacred to religious people and you should do all your "bad stuff" on other days. But, to be truly religious, you have to be good all the time. So I think this song is being sarcastic to "Sunday religion" people.

Nirvana – Seasons in the Sun Lyrics 18 years ago
I just heard/saw this for the first time on the box set...it's cool because they all switch instruments (at least I think this is the song where they do it) So Kurt Cobain is playing drums, Krist Novoselic is playing guitar, and Dave Grohl is playing bass. It's a really good song with a catchy beat that it stuck in my head right now.

Alice in Chains – No Excuses Lyrics 18 years ago
Yes, Hardrocker and stevo are both right. A band may have a topic that they sing about a lot, but you shouldn't automatically jump to the conclusion that because Layne did druge this song is about drugs. To me, it's a friendship song, helping your friend through hard times.

Nirvana – Mexican Seafood Lyrics 18 years ago
Is there such a thing as Mexican Seafood?...suppose so...even if, I wonder why he chose Mexican Seafood...why not Chinese seafood, or Arabian seafood, or Guatemalan seafood...

This is a fun song to sing in front of people to see what their reaction is. And I think it's because Kurt Cobain had horrible stomach cramps his entire life that could never be explained.

Robert Plant himself said they were all high on Morrocan dope at the time of writing this song. In his own words, when asked what the song means, "Well, we were all high on Morrocan dope at the time, so who knows?"

Pagoda – The Happy Song Lyrics 18 years ago
It's a pretty cool song. If and when these guys put out a CD, I will...buy it. Uhm, yeah. I'm surprised that there's only a combination of like 5 comments of these guys' songs. This song is a contradicting song...and kind of a parody of a song where people try to make you feel sorry for them "Here’s the part in the song
Where you think of me all wrong"
But I like it. Tis cool.

Dead Kennedys – Your Emotions Lyrics 18 years ago
The best line is definately "your emotions make you a monster". It's so true, I mean...just really true.
This song, to me, is about conformity and how you need to be yourself and not what people want you to be.

Dead Kennedys – Let's Lynch The Landlord Lyrics 18 years ago
This, like a lot of their songs, is really catchy. I just listened to it about three hours ago and it's really stuck in my head. In true punk style, they are straightforward and get right to the point. I mean, we know what it means...pretty much. Haha.

Nirvana – Rape Me Lyrics 18 years ago
This song was written about a scandilous article written about Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain in Vanity Fair. It was about their drug use and it called them "unfit parents" to handle Frances Bean. As a result, their infant baby was taken away from them. In response to all these events, Cobain wrote this song. Basically, to me, it's saying, "yeah, yeah, screw me, I suck, sure, sure, sure." It, like many of Nirvana's songs, is sarcastic and in protest of something that happens in the world by saying, "it's ok" though it's not. Reverse psychology or something.

Nirvana – Something in the Way Lyrics 18 years ago
Haha, you guys are overanalyzing a Nirvana song again. Why do people overanalyze songs written by dead people? I've noticed that.

Anyway, yes, i think this song has beauty in how sad sounding it is. And of course the "It's ok to eat fish cuz they don't have any feelings" is sarcastic. Cobain used a lot of sarcasm in his songs.

Nirvana – Aneurysm Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with farhad or Matt_DS1 or whatever. Cobain enjoyed watching people overanalyze his songs. Not every single song has to have a meaning. Does this song have a meaning then? Maybe. For me, it's just a great rock out song.

Nirvana – Turnaround Lyrics 18 years ago
I didn't know this was a cover, actually. I knew Molly's Lips was, though. But yeah, whether he wrote it or not, it's a great song. I think it has a bunch of great lines: basically, in the grand scheme of things, little things don't matter. "Take a step outside the city/ and you turn around/ take a look at where you are/ it's revolting/ you're really no where" etc. Despite all, I think it's kind of an upbeat song.

Nirvana – Mr. Moustache Lyrics 18 years ago
Heh, I am now also slightly obsessed with this song..I dunno...it's been stuck in my head for about a week now. Me and my friend now call our science teacher, who has quite the impressive amount of facial hair, Mr. Moustache. He actually knew is was a Nirvana song, and since he knows we're obsessed with grunge and likes to give us a hard time about it, he was like, "Ok, what sucky early 90s song is that?"

>impatient sigh< It's not sucky, Mr. D.

Foo Fighters – DOA Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is really cool and so is the music video. I'm just wondering if anyone else notices these two things about the band memebers:

Dave Grohl, much like Steven Tyler, has an extremely large mouth. Whenever I see a picture of him or see this music video, I find myself mesmerized by his mouth. And his teeth. Whoa. How does he sing so well with those things?

The dummer, Taylor, (which is my name too which is really cool) looks a lot like Kurt Cobain, which is ironic.

Lol, sorry, just had to say that...anyway, I do like this song a lot and am glad Dave Grohl didn't stop at Nirvana and pulled together this band. He's way underrated, in my opinion. He can sing, play dums and guitar, and write and produce songs. He deserves more credit than he gets.

AC/DC – The Jack Lyrics 18 years ago
Bon Scott said this song had origins as follows:

Twenty girls or so would come around and "service" the entire band. Malcolm Young asked Bon Scott why he didn't write a song about it. The result? This song. So, yeah, might have other elements to it but that's basically the main story.

Anyway, I have this song on three different CDs. It's my favorite Bon Scott AC/DC song. One version I have is a demo and it's a little over eight minutes long. Eight minutes of pure sweetness. This song has a great beat.

But also, the ghonorea theory thingie is right too. Aparently when they first sang this in concert, Angus Young started off and Scott rumbled into the mike, "Ghonorea...I got gon-o-reaa..." and then he said it higher and higher and they started the show.

Awesome song.

Nirvana – Blew Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is really cool and it just shows how raw early Nirvana was. Also, I don't think all songs have to have a real meaning. As well, sometimes you use...what the word...metaphors...like, you say one thing but mean something else. With Kurt Cobain, he did that a lot. He said one thing, both in his songs and in real life, but meant another. This may be the case with this song. He also used a lot of sarcasm in his songs...anyway, this is a really cool song and I love it.

Nirvana – Mr. Moustache Lyrics 18 years ago
This song actually has a bit of a tune and the words sound good together. The band came out with a lot of pro-vegetarian sounding lines in their songs, like in "Something In The Way" where the line goes, "It's ok to eat fish cuz they don't have any feelings" (being sarcastic). This song to me seems like it's aimed at someone who thinks they can do it all or explain it all (Fill me up on your new vision...help me trust your mighty wisdom...etc) but Cobain is doubting them, which has never happened to that person before or something. I don't know, I mean, I've listened to the song before, but I never quite thought about what it means. Now reading the lyrics I came up with my theory but the theory about the macho man one seems good as well.

Wow, you guys, I don't like Avril either, and I think her whole "I-hate-posers-even-though-I-am-one" thing is up, but she's allowed to be a fan of Green Day. And it's their business if they want to give her the rights to sing their song. It also amazes me that you guys keep typing Green Day's name wrong...it's two words, not one. Stay with me on this one. Green. Day.

Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics 18 years ago
You know what's really cool about this song? (Tay's Fun Fact Number 11)...ahem.

Outside of Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen where it has the little sign that every city/town/whatever has saying "Welcome To Aberdeen" it has a little sign below it saying "Come As You Are", which is kinda neat.

Uhm, in agreement with NO_CODE_79, saying that Cobain didn't kill himself is denying who he was, as his depression came through in his lyrics. he was mentally messed up, and it shows in a lot of his lyrics, especially Lithium.

Now, I really like and respect Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, but I DO say he is messed up. Why? IT'S OBVIOUS GEEZ. This song is awesome because it contradicts itself constantly. "Take your time/hurry up" etc. I don't like how popular it is, but I can't deny the awesome lyrics.

As well as being manic depressive, he seems to be obsessed with rape. "Rape Me", duh, but also (in my opinion) "About A Girl" "Negative Creep" "Polly", etc...which isn't too ironic considering Cobain considered himself a feminist.

Anyway, tis all.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 18 years ago
I totally and utterly and completely agree with Agreenmachine. This is a good song to be respected. It's overplayed and overanalyzed. (Misspelled that, I know...hmm, maybe not...anyway...) I'm just wondering if anyone who calls this Nirvana's best song knows and others! Negative Creep, Blew, About A Girl, Love Buzz, Dive, Turnaround, Aneurysm, tourrette's...these are all extremely good songs that, if you think Teen Spirit is good, you should like as well. In Utero was written to brush off posers who only like Nirvana because they were on MTV. Let me just give you a few lines from some of the lyrics on said CD...

"Teen age angst has paid off well/Now I'm bored and old"

"Self appointed judges judge/more than they are told"

"I'm not the only one"

"Appreciate your concern/you'll always stink and burn"

"I miss the comfort in being sad"

Ok, besides that, of which I could go on and on, All Apologies, if you just listen to it, you can tell how depressed he is. Milk It is all about unhealthy obsessions fans have with Nirvana and how much Cobain hates it. He didn't want to be this famous. He wanted a small fan base that would come to small gigs at unknown coffee shops and listen to his lyrics.

Now, look at your comments on this song and ask yourself if that's what he would have wanted.

Senses Fail – Martini Kisses Lyrics 18 years ago
Hello, what about the end of the song where he goes something like, "The king to his checkmate" or something? That part is completely missing.

My friend gave me what she called and "emo mix" for Christmas, and this and a few over Senses Fail songs were on it. I don't like emo very much but I totally love these guys because they're really real. This song to me is about a turmaculous love...a sad love song. I don't think it's about Kurt Cobain really...the only way it could be would be "Burn out, not fade away" but, as someone said before, Cobain took that from another song. Now everytime someone says that in a song, are we going to think it's abotu Cobain? I don't think so. It's just a good line.

Sex Pistols – Pretty Vacant Lyrics 18 years ago
The catchiest line is, to me, "we're so pretty oh so pretty" and it's just kinda a cool line...the great thing about the Sex Pistols is that they're constantly poking fun at people and are raising hell...and, of course, Johhny Rotten has a totally great voice for punk, because he draws out his words really well. Very noticeable in Problem, I think it's called, when he goes, "problem, problem, problem..." over and over again...anyway, this is a awesome punk song.

Why am I the first to comment? ALL AC/DC SONGS MUST BE COMMENTED A JILLION TIMES BECAUSE AC/DC KICKS ASS! Then she divorced me."

AC/DC – Highway To Hell Lyrics 19 years ago
I love it at the end when he says, "And I'm going down...whoa!" At least in concert he says the whoa. Haha. There's a stairway to heaven and a highway to hell...which I think means it easier to get to hell than to heaven. Because a highway is faster than a stairway, riiight? Of course I'm right.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 19 years ago
Actually, Cobain didn't know there was a deoderant called Teen Spirit until after he wrote the song. And "here we are now, entertain us" was something he used to say as he walked into a crowded room or party. Besides that, yeah, I think the song is kinda pointless and just an anthem for grunge, like The Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop" for punk rock

The Clash – Train in Vain Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree that "did you lie when you spoke to me?" is the best line. As for what this is about, I happen to know the guy (oopsie forgot his name) wrote it while at his grandmother's house about a girl breaking up with him. When it was on the CD as a hidden track, a lot of people thought the title was, "Stand By Me". I think the title means that, ok, a train is unstoppable, practically, and in vain means it's out of control. Like...when you get your feelings hurt you may be out of control. At least that's what I think it means.

Nirvana – About a Girl Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah, the beginning sounds like he is taking advantage of her, then it sounds like she's taking advantage of him. I like this song because it's an early song but pretty good. Of course, in practically all the songs on Bleach, you can barely understand what he's saying, if at all. So you have to rely on his tone of voice, volume of voice, tone of intruments, etc. to kinda figure out what the song is about. Knowing Nirvana and the mood and tune and sound of this song, it sounds condescending to me. I'm not sure about what yet...but he sounds bitter and sarcastic. I dunno.

Ramones – Blitzkrieg Bop Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm a nerd so I looked up the word "blitzkrieg". It means a fast, hard, and furious war. I'm not sure about the whole Hitler thing, though it makes sense. Simply because the Ramones' earliest songs were just about things they knew, and I'm not so sure they were heavily involved or interested in WWII at the time. What they wanted was a catchy line, so they made up. "Hey ho, let's go!" which is now the punk national anthem call, grew out of this and I honestly think they just built a song around it. Since they sang about things they know, I think they may be speaking of the "war" of growing up poor in Queens, as they did. And I know that Tommy added the brilliant line of "Shoot 'em in the back now".

I have a lot of Ramones CDs, and some booklets that come with the CDs have information about the band, their songs, etc. Anyway, this song is about prostitutes that hung around their hometown of Queens. Apparently 53rd&3rd is the name of the street (or a made up name for an actual street) that was a hot spot to get a hooker.

I also think it is a protest against "hair metal" bands, because AC/DC was probably the last great just rock and roll band. I think it's so stupid what people are calling rock nowadays...AC/DC was the best rock band ever, period.

AC/DC – Rock 'n' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution Lyrics 19 years ago
Decided to rant on my favorite Brian Johnson-AC/DC song. I initially thought this CD was a kind of burn to Bon Scott - see how much better we are without you? etc. (Because this is AC/DC's most popular CD.) However, throughout it I find tributes to him, and this song is the biggest one. I agree it's a total f-you - in fact, the band themselves said it was a screw you to everyone who hates rock and roll music and them. When rock and roll first came out, a lot of "older" folks said it was a passing fad, but it wasn't, was it? This song perfectly exeplifies that. I think Scott would be proud to hear this song, because with every song he sang this is basically what he was saying. I'm just wondering why it took AC/DC so long to come out with a song like this. Throughout this song, as in "it'll always be with us, it's never gonna die" I think it a tribute to Scott as well as singing about rock. All in all, a great song.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
Uhm, whoa....geez. You guys, there is no subliminal message unless you have a very active imagination. Besides, what's the point? The point of a song is to listen to it...in the right order, from the beginning to the end, and get the message out of that. This song was written while they were probably high, but it still has a beautiful message. No matter how you take it. I personally take it as there's two paths she can take - good or evil, and since she's "buying a stairway to heaven", she decided to take the good road. That's just me though.

Nirvana – Polly Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree this is about a rape story. Another thing that I haven't read that may interest you that I know is that after hearing this song, two guys in Kurt Cobain's home town kidnapped a girl and raped her, singing this song. When Cobain heard it, he was really pissed off because it seemed like the song was about enjoying raping a girl rather than protesting it.

Another thing about this song is a bunch of feminists got really pissed at it (even though Cobain was a self-proclaimed "feminist" himself) because it was about a girl being raped. So when Cobain heard that, he wrote Rape Me, which is about HIM getting raped. Of course, it's also about a scandolous magazine piece that was written about him and Courtney Love, but I think the feminist thing and this song had a reason in it.
