Damn. That's about all I have to say to everyone who comes to this specific page just to say how much they hate rap. Do you people not have jobs or anything else to do? As far as the supposed talent deficit between rap and rock goes, lets see you rock supporters compose a rap album and see how well you do. If it's as easy as you say, you should be on MTV in no time, right? Finally, maybe people who like rap just like listening to a great beat and listening to lyrics that embody having fun. That's what makes rap so great, it's not all overly emotional. The artists are self-confident and don't take life too seriously. Listening to music should be relaxing, not some emotional roller coaster in which some crybaby is screaming through tears about how his girlfriend dumped him. Do you hear rap artists whining about girl problems? No, because they don't let stupid shit like that bother them, they understand that there's another girl to pursue if one doesn't work out. I guess my main point is just chill out, not every song has to be deep and meaningful, what are you trying to accomplish by coming here and bitching about a song or type of music you don't like? How about just going to a song you like and talking about how much you like it? Wouldn't that be a little more positive/mature thing to do? |

yes, turn the volume up and listen carefully... It is DEFINITELY "like being stone". Perhaps there are some drug references, but maybe he's just talking about how a girl brings him down to earth, keeps him from losing touch with reality, from being "a million miles" away... just my thoughts |

Oh yeah, as far as the "reggae/rap" part of the song, the lyrics are "suffer suffer, it don't get no rougher, growin up in the ghetto torture me like no other. Suffer, suffer, it won't get no rougher, when you rock me baby put that thing on your lover" |

As far as the canines are concerned, police need a warrant to search your car if any part of the car is locked, unless the K-9 unit comes and the dogs smell something, in this case drugs. If the dogs smell something, then the police are legally allowed to search your car without a warrant |

To me, this song reminds me of someone dealing with depression. The snake is the reminder of the past and how things could have been, had he acted differently. At the same time, part of him is telling him to stop dwelling on the past and look towards the future... when these two opposite feelings come together, this causes the "storm".... only when the snake (i.e. depression) is "drowned" can he move on in his life without fear or regret |

This is my favorite song EVER. I think that CandyKane7 got the meaning down perfectly. It seems that the lead singer, as well as myself, is pretty shy around girls and is therefore trying to find some sort of conversation piece to start talking to a girl he admires. The "hey, what's the point of this?" kinda references the whole game you have to play to meet a girl and try to develop a relationship with her.
I kinda experienced this first hand when I was trying to man up and talk to this girl in my stats class back in college. I was all nervous, but she gave me a really big smile, which totally calmed me down. To this day, my heart still melts every time I hear the "maybe just a smile" line, it brings me back to that exact moment. After I met her, we always competed to see who could get the best grade on the test/quiz, which is where the "I think you're smart, you sweet thing" part comes in, as she usually beat me. Perhaps that's the reason this is my favorite song, it's just so amazing when music relates EXACTLY to your own life, it's as if someone wrote the song specifically for you. Even years later, I still remember her because of this song and it still get chills every time I hear it. |

I think this song and Fireal go together quite well, as the theme is more or less the same in both songs. Chino wants this girl so bad that he's trying to convince himself that no matter what, he'll get her ("And someday, I'll be with her, I'll be with you, I will") when deep down, he knows he's "sick", as in delusional, when he says this. One more note, the "first star" to be seen in the night sky is the planet Venus, which was the goddess of beauty in Roman mythology. Thus, it might not be his first love, but instead just a reference to how incredibly beautiful the girl is.... just a thought. |

I think blackwater has definitely got it down. To me, the "I want to be much, then more" part represents not ever feeling like you're good enough, that no matter how hard you work, how hard you try, you always come up short of the prize, which, in this case, is a girl's affections. I kinda felt this first hand, back in high school, when I was damn near obsessed with this girl, but could never compete with her boyfriend, who pretty much outclassed me in every way. I think Chino had a similar experience, which he expresses quite poignantly in this song. Definitely my favorite Deftones song, one of my favorite songs ever. Period. |

As it relates to my own life, this song reminds me of finally figuring out whether or not a girl that you like really likes you or not. The "at least now I know" part reminds me of my high school days, when I finally just said fuck it, and went up to a girl I liked. It didn't work out, but "at least now I know"... Perhaps this is what Chino is trying to figure out too? |

Heh, this song totally takes me back to when me and my buddy were roomies in college at CU-Colorado Springs. The town sucked, the people there were terrible, the girls all dated the asshole Air Force Academy guys, so we would oftentimes just go drive and try to get away from all the bullshit for a while. We both REALLY started to love this song that first year of college. |

I guess the overall theme of this song would be that death isn't something to be afraid of. It sounds to me like Trent is trying to turn the somewhat common conception of death being horrible and painful into a relief from all things painful and troubling. |

This song really does have a quite calming/soothing sound to it. I think this song, specifically, is in reference to liking someone, but not, for whatever reason, being able to tell them this. I know I've just layed down and daydreamed about a girl or haven't been able to sleep because she's on my mind. This song kinda voices that type of frustration. |

Heh, this is definitely one of my all-time faves too. The meaning is especially true to me, as I had a huge crush on a girl, but never got up the balls to talk to her. Only when it was too late and I had moved away did I find out she liked me too. This song always seems to bring me back to that time. |
