Sorry, I put the comment in the wrong place. Feel free to ignore it if you know no idea what I'm talking about

I don't think that's similar at all. One of the reasons Jesus was crucified was because He used the phrase "I am". In Hebrew, that translates to Yahweh which is, of course, the name of God. Neither Mary nor Paul nor any other contemporary of Jesus claimed to be such. Whether you believe that Jesus was the Son of God or not, He certainly claimed to be.

mewithoutYou – Every Thought a Thought of You Lyrics 16 years ago
To the poster who mentioned that Aaron may not be a Christian anymore, I'd say the lyrics to "A Stick, a Carrot and String" pretty much rules that out since the lyrics reference Jesus as "our Lord", not as a prophet as Muslims would say. Also, Allah is just the Arabic word for God, it's not specifically Muslim. And there is no mention of Muhammad in the song. The last lyric is taken from the common Muslim saying but it's only the first part which refers to God. Anyway, just thought I'd clarify how I see it.

As for the song, I'd venture to say it's about trying to serve God fully in a world where that is very difficult

I wouldn't same someone who believes in Satan because every true Christian believes he exists, but rather someone who worships Satan though I too think of Islam when I hear this

It made me think of Satanism as well, but it could be any religion that's not Christianity

taking my comment a little personal, aren't you? you're right, it's not a political forum. i was simply saying that Corey's and other similar people are misguided in their blame. of course Bush can be blamed, anyone can be, but that's not the same as saying he should be blamed. that's their right, though. i also don't recall actually condemning the band. i'm a Stone Sour fan. all i said was that a lot of bands do the same thing and that it wears thin after awhile. as for defending Bush, i could but like you said, this isn't a forum about that. Also, i was expressing what i thought the song was about, i simply added commentary like most people on here do. feel free to dislike Bush, i don't mind, but remember, if things were really as bad as some people make them out to be then why are those people able to make songs like this without being arrested?

All That Remains – Indictment Lyrics 18 years ago
i think the song is referring to the small number of Muslims who kill in the name of Allah. after all, "Allah" means "God" in Arabic. it could apply to certain Christians too, but it seems to me that today the most killing done in the name of "God" comes from the middle east. i'm not saying Muslims in general are killers or anything like that but there are a small number that do and they get plenty of news coverage these days

Zao – It's Hard Not To Shake With A Gun In Your Mouth Lyrics 19 years ago
i just thought about it and the end of this song reminds me of part of 1 Corinthians chapter 13. it says "and though i have all faith, so that i could remove mountains, and have no love, i am nothing". when he says "announcing the mountains that you've moved, but love is the farthest thing from you" it seems similar. don't know how that impacts the song, but i thought it was interesting

Norma Jean – Songs Sound Much Sadder Lyrics 19 years ago
a great song. i'd say it's about how living life based on the world leads to damnation. "while we thought we were learning how to live, we have been learning how to die" sounds to me like "living" for the pleasures of the world leads to eternal death once we stand before God because the world is full of sin. "the fatal habit of being myself" shows that people are sinful by nature but that "there's hope", through God. i dunno, i could be wrong but it sounds right to me

hate towards Bush is all well and good. i can't say much because i have similar feelings about Bill Clinton, but still, it wasn't all him. someone here mentioned oil and that's one thing i am sick of. if the war was for oil, then how come we haven't exported any and gas prices are still over two bucks? i mean, if it was over oil, we should have it by the shipload, but we don't. so, to disagree with the war is all well and good, but the oil approach isn't holding up. and to songs4aburningcity, if being pro-Bush and pro-war made people for hate and greed, then how come this country hasn't completely dissolved into evil? i mean, over 50 million people voted for Bush, myself included, and yet the US is still chock full of freedom. i guess us idiotic, inbred, God-loving, gun toting, uneducated simpleton rednecks just don't have the mental ability to get much done. golly gee, maybe someday

touche. that could very well be true, which would unvalidate the second half of my comment, however, the chorus still sounds like one of the stupidest things i've ever heard. just the lyrics themselves are awful

ya know, it's funny. i love this genre of music and yet, it seems like every band as at least one anti-Bush song. i don't really mind, even though i'm a strong Bush supporter, but after awhile it all sounds the same. not to mention the fact that Bush isn't the supreme power in the country. in order for anything to happen, Congress has to approve. these bands should start attacking the government as a whole and not solely the president if they want to show dissatisfaction with the way things are. regardless, it is a good song

Zao – Physician Heal Thyself Lyrics 19 years ago
this is definitely a good album, but of the ones i have (self-titled, Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest, The Funeral of God, and this one) i put it last. of course, last for Zao surpasses first for almost any other band. i rank them The Funeral of God, self-titled, Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest, and this one. The Funeral of God gets me because i love the whole concept of the album. Where Blood.... has Ravage Ritual, which is my favorite Zao song, self-titled was the second of their cds i listened to and At Zero and Five Year Winter are amazing, but of course, this one rocks hard as well

Zao – It's Hard Not To Shake With A Gun In Your Mouth Lyrics 19 years ago
yeah, Dan is the only Christian. he thanks "the God of David" and "Yeshua" which is how Jesus is said in Hebrew. Martin thanks his "version of God" so that probably isn't Christian. Scott thanked God on Funeral but not on The Fear so he may be or may not be. of course, Dan writes most of the lyrics so his Christianity is enough to keep those themes in some of the songs. i prefer Zao back before the more secular move but they're a great band either way. oh, and from what i read, Russ got hurt and he's welcome to come back when he's ready but the band isn't expecting that he will. i got that from their MySpace awhile back so i dunno if it's still true or not

Zao – It's Hard Not To Shake With A Gun In Your Mouth Lyrics 19 years ago
i agree with most of the posters here. i think he's saying that he isn't trying to spread a particular message about Christianity, but rather sings about what he feels himself. many Christians look at music that sounds abrasive and immediately think it's devil music. i myself am a Christian, and a right-wing one at that, but i see no problem with Zao, as there is no wrong way to show your feelings about God and life. i fail to see the part of the Bible that says "Whosoever Maketh loud music, shall not be deemed a follower of Christ". maybe i just overlooked it, lol

Zao – Ravage Ritual Lyrics 19 years ago
the line "white washed tombs" is taken from what Christ said to the Pharisees, that they were "white washed sepulchres" which meant that they professed faith outwardly but it wasn't something that was actually in there heart, since if it was, they wouldn't have doubted that Jesus was the Son of God

Taproot – Nightmare Lyrics 19 years ago
i have to say that the chorus of this song is possibly the stupidest thing i've ever heard, even though i like Taproot. as for the meaning, it seems like yet another song about how religion is brainwashing the nation and so on and so on

this song always reminds me of the sniper shootings that went on in the DC area a few years back. i live close to DC so that was all anyone was talking about. even though the snipers did know what they were doing, this song's overall tone reminds me of that. Get Inside and Choose also kinda remind me of that whole thing. it could be because i got the cd around that time but still

Finger Eleven – Obvious Heart Lyrics 20 years ago
i take this song to be about a person who is longing to be with someone without noticing that there is someone else ("the obvious heart") that they've known for a long time ("there's a remedy close, in a familiar dose") who is really what they need. but the person is so caught up in their feelings ("so full of yourself") that nothing else registers, even the fact that being without the person they're longing for isn't as bad as they make it out to be ("this heart is not a broken one")

Finger Eleven – For The Ocean Lyrics 20 years ago
i think it's about people who are caught in a situation that they know is bad but don't have the ability to help themselves (could be herion, love, or just about anything). the line "it's like waiting for the ocean to save you from the waves" seems to show that some people don't want to help themselves and wait for someone or something to rescue them. when the song says "you've taken your timing" it means that people always blame others for their situations.

Finger Eleven – Drag You Down Lyrics 20 years ago
this was the first song i listened to after seeing the remake of Dawn of the Dead in the movies and so it always makes me think of zombies. lol, although i doubt that's what it's about it does make some sense. as for an actual meaning, i'd say it boils down to a person who is fed up with things around him and feels that if they don't kill him, he'll kill them. they wrote the song after being frustrated at the studio recording process

this song always puts me in the mind of Tool. i'd say it's about hiding from something even though you're always around it

Finger Eleven – Conversations Lyrics 20 years ago
i'd say that this song is about two people who have feelings for each other and both of them know it ("the signals given") and yet they can't seem to actually get together. each of them are more or less doing the same thing, hence "i know we're playing the same game". since they know they're both doing the same thing, neither can admit it and therefore their conversations skim around it, which complicates everything.

or maybe i'm wrong and it has no meaning. great song either way
