Dave Matthews Band – Funny the Way It Is Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
Great song, and it really must be because I dont like most of DM's stuff, but I love this one. I also think it beats the hell out of that song "ironic" song Alanis put out in the 90s. Poor Alanis--Dave really put her to shame with this one. |

This one should be played on a triple dip with the Stones' 'Stray Cat Blues' and Motorhead's 'Jailbait'. Gotta love that young stuff! Great song, Kip! |

Neil Young – Cortez The Killer Lyrics
|
Yes, Cortes did the 'hard thing' and burned his ships so his mutinious men had no other choice but to follow him on his trail of conquest. But IMO he was just doing what he had to do--it was rough times. Also, the Aztecs were pretty brutal themselves (cutting the heart out of a live person? Sounds pretty ruthless to me). Historical inaccuracies aside, its a great song--one of Neil's best. Shouldnt overanalyze anyway, just sit back and enjoy. :) |

The Smashing Pumpkins – Hello Kitty Kat Lyrics

This song is my life. Right now. It sucks BAD but somehow listening to Billy growl and moan makes it a little better. Still though, I gotta say "enough is enough" sometime soon. Love on ya everybody. |

Depeche Mode – A Question Of Time Lyrics
|
Seems pretty obvious to me that its about a guy who wants to bang a young girl before shes "damaged goods", whether she's about to whore herself, or go out in the big-bad world, or whatever. Just a guy who's saying "hey, SOMEONE is gonna bang you first, so it might as well be ME!" :) |

UFC fighter Rob Emerson used this song for his walk to the cage (btw, he won by vicous KO). Good catchy stuff, nice ripoff of the Clash's "straight to hell". Fluffy Political message. Thumbs up all around |

Elvis Costello – New Amsterdam Lyrics

Wow. I cant believe it took some cheezy tv show for me to make the connection, but now its soooo obvious; this song is about NEW YORK CITY!! His fascination with Gotham. Thinking about it from that point of view, EVERY lyric now SCREAMS it! Good old New York City--all the glitz, glamour, decadence, beauty...all of it--he's caught up in it and shouldnt be but dammit, just cant help himself. Think of it that way and tell me Im wrong.... |

The Rolling Stones – Midnight Rambler Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
One of the Stones' darkest songs EVER...and the ironic part is that it was written on a sunny afternoon at a villa in Italy. NOT about the boston strangler (and that courtroom testimony bullshit is just that). Just a song about Mick in the role of home-invader/rapist/murderer. Yikes. |

The Doors – Roadhouse Blues Lyrics

audioslave, the gibberish dont mean nothin--its just scat singing--Mel Torme or Ella Fitzgerald style. Jim pays great homage, dont he? :) This is one of the greatest "fuck it all, lets party" songs ever. |

Brothers Johnson – Strawberry Letter 23 Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
The way I heard it, He wrote the song after finding all the letters his old girlfriend wrote him, thus the spacey sounding lyrics--theyre a comp of all the letters...or it could be drugs, hahaha. wherever he got the inspiration, it works like a charm; great underrated song! |

Dire Straits – Tunnel Of Love Lyrics

I know he uses a carnival backdrop, but I always thought he was talking about one-night-stands in general. either way, great friggin song--one of their best (the version on live alchemy is awesome) |

Billy Bragg – To Have And To Have Not Lyrics

Wow, just d/l-ed the Lars version of this song people were talking about---BOY does it SUCK! I'll say this tho, Billy B have a MUCH better live version of this song; I think its from "help save the youth of America" or something like that---its much better than the studio version, and WAY better than the Lars and the whoevers version. |

I think a lotta rock songs are like this..more than people think...a band comes up with a good jam/melody and just write some nonsense lyrics around it (radio doesnt play instrumentals much, ya know) |
