The Dillinger Escape Plan – Black Bubblegum Lyrics 16 years ago
Ha, I had no idea The Minor Times was still around. I actually worked with the lead singer Brendan at a place in Spring House PA.

He was a damned fine box truck driver. He quit to go on tour and we never saw him again.

Good for him!

A song about a lost love.

BoySetsFire – The Tyranny Of What Everyone Knows Lyrics 18 years ago
History is taught by revisionists. The "truth" we're taught is what is convenient for those teaching us. The "lessons" we're taught ignore the "Whys" that explain why it happened that way.

BoySetsFire – Dying On Principle Lyrics 18 years ago
The failing war on drugs. The "real pushers" are the dealers and makers of the drugs, yet the people being policed are the users who are oppressed by thier addiction. This war on drugs is a war of attrition that can never be won until the supply units are destroyed.

The DVD from Tomorrow Come Today handles this one: Nathan states that its about how Leftist thinking groups are losing focus on thier goal and spending more time infighting.

BoySetsFire – Management Vs. Labor Lyrics 18 years ago
This one is about how the workers are exploited and treated unfairly for all thier hard labor while the bosses and managers are profiting the most for simply barking orders. It's an unfair distribution of wealth steming from an unfair distribution of physical work. The end of the song is about the much needed change that can make things better.

BoySetsFire – Déjà Coup Lyrics 18 years ago
This is along the same lines as Empire...it's sung from the perspective of those in power and control speaking to the unquestioning masses that are along for the ride. Continue to amuse yourselves with what you are given, and just leave everything to "us". Those in power have everything under control, so don't even bother trying to make a difference.

BoySetsFire – 65 Factory Outlets Lyrics 18 years ago
Seems to me that this song is about the people who wanted the writer to abandon his crazy dream of being in a band and go get a "real" job in the "real" world. This is his response to thier wishes.

BoySetsFire – Empire Lyrics 18 years ago
The false sense of security of living in the United States, a "Free" country. Nice use of irony in the use of the title "Empire" when speaking about the land of the "free".

BoySetsFire – With Cold Eyes Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a tough one...it just looks to me like a big struggle with religion. He believes but is very skeptical (If I'm unworthy, its you that brought me here -> Please don't let go of me), seeks proof he knows he will not get, and accuses religious figures of "preying on willingness". A sort of challange to God it would seem to take command of His kingdom.

BoySetsFire – Pariah Under Glass Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about how politicians and religious figures will appeal to the masses and exploit them to have thier will carried out. "promise the bread, the wine, the life that always shines if they vote in the proper direction" points at this, as does "For your own ends, their means are dying", the chorus, and the overall message of the song.

BoySetsFire – Nostalgic For Guillotines Lyrics 18 years ago
Again, its about Bush's war. "Breathe in the burning air/ be releived theres nothing there", seems to be about the wmd hunt that yeilded nothing. "Retreat to the back of our lines for your needs" is about Bush sending our troops in to do what he wanted done, not what was best for the country. The line "now what if dreams you had came crashing down/ would you change or erase the memory of the day you made us bleed" asks Bush that if he knew his vendetta against Iraq/Sadaam would cost the americans so much time/money/life, would he still do it? Great song. Oh, and all the guillotine talk is...easily interpreted...*ahem*.

BoySetsFire – The Misery Index Lyrics 18 years ago
A song seemingly about hopelessness. He is tired of pressing on with nothing real to look forward to. "My lips move but dont make a sound" means to me that he has spoke out against every injustice, but made no difference at all. He sits there, takes the beating life has to offer, and waits for something to happen. He doesnt know what (who am I? What am I waiting for anyway?), but whatever it is will make him and the world "reborn". Could be the second coming, but I can't say for sure.

BoySetsFire – Falling Out Theme Lyrics 18 years ago
I get 2 things from this song. It can either be as straightforward as it looks, being about a relationship that is on again off again, or it could be more deep and be about a relationship with the Lord that is on again off again. There is evidence to support both.

BoySetsFire – Social Register Fanclub Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah, another shot at the prez. No doubt there. The "throne" passed on is the presidency, passed on from Herbert-Walker to W. "Your standards put you high above the crowd but your safety net won't let you hit the ground" means W can say/do whatever he wants without fear because of his political royalty coupled with the republican congress. Yessir, Mr. Gray does not like King George II.

BoySetsFire – So Long...And Thanks For The Crutches Lyrics 18 years ago
This song sounds like its about the music industry in general. Specifically, all of the labels that bounced BSF around because thier message was too "extreme". This song is from the point of view of the record label suits talking to the band.

"The end of your pain meant the end of a rope" is the line that seals this song being about suicide. Dude hung himself to "end his pain".

I think this song is about US army involvement in armed conflicts on foreign soil, but i'll be damned if i can say for sure which one. Maybe its about all of them. Dont know.

BoySetsFire – Cadence Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it goes a little deeper than the above. The subject of the song battles anorexia "i would rather starve than lose this body/your acceptance" to keep up with the appearance that the others expect them to have. "rotting flesh" and "wilting beauty" point at this as well, as the human body will deterioate with lack of food. The song pretty much describes the plight of many young people who develop eating disorders trying to live up to the high standard of beauty in today's society.

BoySetsFire – On In Five Lyrics 18 years ago
Pretty obvious- its about the mainstream media and how they dictate the majority of the "information" the public gets. Nathan challanges the listener to do some investigating to arrive at "our own truth without you (the media)" Cant get any clearer.

BoySetsFire – Foundations To Burn Lyrics 18 years ago
I think its more geared toward the war in Iraq.
Decide which liar you trust" is pointing at Bush saying "Iraq has the wmds and is connected to al queda" and sadaam denying both of those things. Which of the 2 liars will you believe?
"The guns that we know" is/are the US army, and "the guns we never will" are the supposed weapons of mass destruction. Nathan goes on to tell the listener (from the point of view of the warhawks in the Bush administration) "Never mind that they were never there" again referring to the wmds. Think of it like that, and the rest of the songs makes a ton of sense too.
