Evanescence – Call Me When You're Sober Lyrics 15 years ago
HELLO. THIS WEBSITE IS CALLED SONG MEANINGS.
Did anyone forget that!? People on this website like you all really tick me off. Moaning and groaning on whether the song is good or not, if the band sucks or not. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK.
I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW PEOPLE ARE INTERPRETING THE SONGS.
If you want to share your opinion on the song, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE. No one cares about if you think it sucks or not. That's not what this site is about. It's called SONG MEANINGS for a reason.
Good god. It seems to me the only sensible person on this entire thread for this song was missy_moo417.

With that said, I would like to break down the song for those who would care to read:
I mean, it is a pretty straight forward song.
The narrator has been dealing with a lover who has been wishy washy with their relationship, and she's finally sick and tired of all the trouble he's been putting her through. He probably has broken up a few times, or has taken some sort of action that basically says he doesn't really love her. (Actions speak louder than words). Therefore, the line "If you loved me, you would be here with me" is a reminder that if he really did love her, he wouldn't be putting her through all this pain. He can't seem to make up his mind on if he really wants her or not, and she's sick of dealing with his conflicts and an inability to make a good decision that he doesn't regret. The "Should I let you fall..." verse is her thinking that just cutting him off might be the only way for him to learn. Obviously with all this pain, she thinks that they'll only be hurting each other ("Can't keep believing, We're only deceiving ourselves"), and so she's sick of him lying and her lying to herself. ("Sick of the lies").
Then, she's referring to him either having broken up with her or doing something that hurt her ("Couldn’t take the blame, sick with shame"), obviously the guy is coming back to her all upset, probably telling her he can't live without her. He can't seem to understand how much grief he's been causing her. Now that he's regretting his decision, it "Must be exhausting to loose your own game."
Now that he's the one hurting, he's playing the victim, when his pain was self-inflicted.
"You never call me when you're sober / You only want it cause it's over" basically, she's saying that he's been so conflicted with himself that there's no way he can really want her; just the relationship. He only wants it because he sees it's finally ending. Not for the right reasons. The second time she says "it's over" is sort of a realization, or a reminder that it really is over between them.
Then the part "How could I have burned paradise?" She's reminding him that she never did anything that caused him pain, reminding him that all his pain has been self-inflicted. He's trying to get sympathy from her, as if she were the one causing his pain. She reminds him that he doesn't really love her and that he was never hers ("You were never mine"), which is also probably something she's just come to realize in the process.
In the last verse, "Don’t lie to me /Just get your things / I’ve made up your mind" is basically her finally trying to be the mature one and finally find some peace for herself. She sees that he's too conflicted to just leave her or take her, and to save them both from further pain, she's decided that she just doesn't want to be a part of it anymore. She is firm in her decision by making the decision for him. Getting him out of her life so she can move on, and so that hopefully he will learn.

People keep saying this is about Amy and that guy from Seether. But really, we don't know for sure unless she's actually come out and said that. I don't really care who it was written for, I just know that the song can apply to anyone in a similar situation, and that's what matters to me.

I don't think this is simply about a necrophiliac.
I think it's more of a joke song.

Dead girls seem to accept the narrator because, well, they're dead.

I just went to one of Voltaire's concerts and I asked him what this song was about.

He said he wrote it for his Girlfriend's younger sister, who died.

The song is just about how when someone dies, it affects the people who cared about that person. That it's not so much about how a person dies, but the fact that they're leaving everyone else behind.

Morrissey – Thats How People Grow Up Lyrics 17 years ago
I can't belive no one has commented on this song yet.

It's so amazing and beautiful.

In short, it's about focusing on finding the right person and expecting to find it...and then reality hits you in the face, that you shouldn't waste time "looking" for love. And when you don't get it the way you wanted it, yeah, it hurts, but there are worse things in life than being single. It's definately something I've learned recently, because all my life, I was exactly like in this song. Someone disappointed me, and I came to this realization.

Morrissey does a great job on writing beautiful songs that many can relate to.

To me, this song isn't just about her being "bitter" about the breakup.

I think this song is about how this person loved the person very much, but their love treated them poorly, and even broke up with her dispite all that she gave her love. [Hense, the line "bridges you are burning;" her ex completely threw all that she gave him/her in her face.]
The part about "that even though you knew it from the start you'd rather be a bitch than be an ordinary broken heart"
To me, it means that her ex knew that they were going to have to end their relationship, and instead of respecting her and being mature about the break up after dumping her, her ex was really bitter about the breakup, which gives her more of a reason to be upset and calling her ex a bitch. "Bitch" towards a man implies that he was acting very whimpy, like a scared little girl.
And since she gave him so much, and he threw it in her face, also implies that he did think he was better than everyone else, and whether or not the breakup had any real effect on him, he made everyone think he was so much better than her. That even though he always treated her poorly, she was the one who caused all the problems. That explains the desire for her to want to do better than him. She wants to prove that she can get over him fast, because she doesn't want his ego to grow after she gave him so much.

So, overall, he treated her like crap, then dumped her, then made himself look good by blaming her for everything, then cut her off because he doesn't want to have to deal with her frustration towards him; he doesn't want to face what he did, hense the whole "so you don't wanna hear about my good day?"

Because not all breakups end up like this.

I think that when she refers to him as "bitch" also implies that she thinks he was acting very much like a sissy.

Actually, I change my mind.

I agree with Bluestopsign 's interpretation.

It makes sense that it would be found in the cancer patient's diary, because of the "antique, early 1900's" style of the music.

Has anyone ever thought that perhaps he's just litterally asking people to donate blood for those in hospitals who need it?
That's what I think the song is about.

Become a blood donor, because there will always be people at the hospital, whose lives are in danger and who need.

Sayra, this song has an early 1900-1920's sound to it.
1950's would've been a lot more different.

I know this has nothing to do with the song, but Bugoff, DO NOT PULL THE "it's not you it's me" ROUTINE.
Be honest. If you aren't honest, she'll get hurt even more.

And as of now, I'm still debating which interpretation I like best here.

Hoobastank – The Reason Lyrics 17 years ago
First of all, people who talk about compeletely irrelevant things really piss me off.
I don't care what your damn political views are, it has NOTHING to do with the song! Don't bash other peoples views; if you disagree, just IGNORE THEM. Ignore them, and tell them to concentrate on the SONG. And No one cares if you think it's a crappy song. If it's a crappy song, then don't waste space by LEAVING A COMMENT.

Just had to get that out of my system.

Anyway, now I'm going to add my take on this song.
Like many people, I definately think this song is about a guy looking back on his past relationship. He must have had some sort of problems going on in his life that really messed with their relationship...she must have loved him very much, and must have put up with a lot of the bad ways he treated her. Eventually, they had to break up, probably for reasons that couldn't be helped, and they probably still loved eachother when it happened. My guess is that it's been a long time, she's finally moved on, he hasn't, but he has accepted the fact that he screwed it up and that it is over. However, he wants to truely apologize for all that he did to her, and let her know that all her suffering was not in vain. The reason why I think he still loves her during the song is because you'd have to truely love someone to want to change like that. He probably didn't realize that he loved her that much until it was over. And now, he doesn't want to make the same mistake again.

This also reminds me of my ex boyfriend. (I hope no one minds me talking about my relationship, because I enjoyed reading about other peoples'). We just broke up a couple of days ago. We were close friends for a long time before we started dating. I was his first girlfriend, (I've had a lot more experience than him when it comes to love and dating), and he put me through a lot of pain and grief through our short lived relationship. He's had a lot of trouble opening up to people all his life, and he's also socially retarded. I was the first person he opened up to this much, he told me so. He tried to treat me better, and he did for a while, but in the end he decided that he wasn't being fair to me. I love him so much, and want to stay together despite all the suffering he's caused me, but he said it hurts him too much, hurting me. The fact that I've loved him more than anyone I've ever had feelings for can't help change anything. We're about to gradute from high school in two months, and he has no clue where he'll be once summer comes. How much he may or may not care about me, I won't know for sure. I don't think he was ever really ready for a relationship yet. But I do hope that I atleast helped to break him out of his shell.

I hope that one day, he can say something to me like the message that is in this song, so that all the pain that I feel right now won't be in vain.

SONG MEANINGS, NOT "OH SO-AND-SO DIDN'T WANT THIS SONG ON THE ALMBUM" OR "i DON'T LIKE THIS SONG" OR "I'M A TRUE FAN AND I SAY IT SUCKS" OR "THIS BAND IS AVERAGE" . COM!

Okay
1) if you think this song sucks, why are you here then? Did you want to know the meaning?
2) Who CARES if the Doors are average or not, PPL COME HERE TO KNOW THE MEANING OF THIS PARTICULAR SONG.
3) WHO CARES IF JIM WANTED TO DO IT OR NOT, he's dead. Not that I don't care, but SERIOUSLY. Him liking or disliking it has nothing to do with what the song lyrics MEAN.
4) WHO CARES WHO IS A "true" THE DOORS FAN!?
5) lastly, what the crap has anyones age got to do with anything, let alone music?

Just grow up people. The whole point of this is to find meaning, not argue over sttuff that has nothing to do with it. I thought someone was going to decipher this song for me since I know little about it. I'm disappointed in most of you guys.

Well, I've read everyone's comments on this song, and I've come up to one conclusion:

All I can say about this, is that, whether it be about a guy who is much older than a girl or not, the point is, he doesn't feel the way she feels about him.
She's pushy(whether or not she's giving him sex), and he just doesn't see her the same way.

I think Luci's Definition fits this song best.
