To me, and I know I'm wrong since bbj cleared it up, like he's in denial. Valerie was once in love with him and moved on, and he's in denial. He thinks she misses him, but she's too busy thinking about all the people she will meet, all the men she'll date, and all the fun she will have. When she ages, she loses her looks but still has all the memories of the good times she had, but doesn't remember him. He still holds that somewhere inside she loves him. Or maybe thats just me. Either way, amazing song. |

It's about being in a failing relationship. At first he did not want to be without her and thus kept her locked away all to himself. He remembers how it felt to wait for her to love him back. He "struck the match" but it did not light as he wanted it to. Now he's trapped in the relationship because she has become attached, yet he no longer feels the same way. There's nothing more to talk about, and he doesn't completely trust her, thus low fidelity. He wants it to end but somehow can't do it, he "can't stop spinning". I don't know, I'm probably crazy. i think i described my situation instead of the song.Whatever, that's what it means to me. |

I think these are all really good. This is one of the things that I love about System of a Down, that their songs are so open. So to all of those people that are saying "the meaning is pretty obvious" respect the fact that there is no set standard meaning for the song and that it is meant to be interpreted. I agree with metallicajake, although I think the line "God is wearing black" represents organized religion preaching against murder and violence, but in certain occasions supporting it. I am Catholic, and my religion has been known to do that (ie the crusades). So it's saying God is honoring those that died for his "cause" by attending their funerals, which you wear black to. I don't know, thats just a thought that came across to me because I've been listening to it for about an hour. |
