| Britney Spears – Baby Boy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| maybe it's about k-fed. | |
| ZZ Top – Sharp Dressed Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I like to think of this as the modern metrosexual man's theme song. lol | |
| Billy Idol – White Wedding Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's already been said once but since some people still are coming up with bizarre meanings for this I'll repeat it: Billy Idol already said on VH1 storytellers that this song is about his real little sister having a shotgun wedding as an answer to an unexpected pregnancy and him thinking she was making a big mistake. Apparently his sister is still married and had two more children. | |
| Van Halen – Jamie's Cryin' Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Girl confuses lust for love and sleeps around but cries when everything turns into a one night stand instead of actual love and can't figure out what's wrong with her. | |
| Van Halen – Hot for Teacher Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| There was this teacher at my high school that a lot of boys liked. she got fired for "inappropriate conduct" with teenage boys and now 8 years later she just got arrested for having sex with a 10 year old boy. Now every time I hear this song I think of her and feel kinda queasy thinking of how "hot for teacher" can go so horribly wrong. | |
| Prince – U Got the Look Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think peach and black might be a reference to the girl's race ie: she's biracial mixed black and white or it refers to her looks ie: peach colored skin and black hair. | |
| Foreigner – Dirty White Boy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think "dirty" refers to the guy being sexually insatiable but she doesn't care how "naughty' he is in bed as long as he loves her only. "You want me to be true to you You don’t give a damn what I do to you" I think the reference about her reputation and friends is maybe she's inexperienced sexually and it's the whole "good girls don't" thing. |

| Tom Petty – Mary Jane's Last Dance Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| His first wife's name was Jane. His second and current wife is named Dana. Not sure that he ever had a wife named Linda as someone stated. | |
| R.E.M. – At My Most Beautiful Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| One of the few R.E.M songs that I would classify as being a real love song. | |
| R.E.M. – Be Mine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Didn't Michael Stipe say something in an interview to the effect that the song was sarcastic and written while he perused a box of candy hearts? I don't think it's a real love song at least not in a traditional sense.. I agree with Joel that the song has a sinister or maybe just a cynical tone to it. |

| R.E.M. – Aftermath Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think it's about a failed relationship rather than politics. "And it makes you laugh And it makes you cry, When London falls And you're still alive." I also think the lines about "london falls" is a euphemism for a relationship falling. When you first loved this person you thought that the love was as great and powerful as any city and now that it's disentegrating the destructive power it has in your life feels like a city fell down around you. It reminds me of the feelings I had after the last time I had my heart broken. You hurt so much and you feel like the pain of losing this person would kill you but the relationship fell apart, your love is gone and you're still alive no matter how much emotional pain you're in. You're a mix of emotions and you laugh and you cry. "He's not coming back. So you work it out, overfeed the cat. And the plants are dry and they need to drink. So you do your best. and you flood the sink. Sit down in the kitchen and cry." This verse reminds me of the typical aftermath after a relationship. All you want to do is cry and feel sorry for yourself because the other person is gone but life goes on. You still have to do the mundane tasks like feeding the cat and watering your plants but you're so distracted from your unhappiness that you mess up doing the simplest tasks. "And you've worked it out And you see it all And you want to shout How you see it all " You're sitting around lying to yourself that you've figured everything out and you're so much wiser from this heartbreak even though maybe deep down you still hurt like hell but you want to say "hey world don't feel sorry for me because i got dumped because i've figured it all out and I'm ok" |

| Chris Isaak – You Owe Me Some Kind Of Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'm going to out on a limb and say this song has a stalkerish feel to it. It sounds like a guy that can't get over a break up so he's obsessed with her even though she said no and thinks she "owes" him her love because they've been in this relationship for a long time. | |
| R.E.M. – Make It All Ok Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
A lot of this album has songs about having a broken heart which goes to show Stipe is a human like the rest of us and not above having someone hurt him. Except in his case I hope the person bought the album and felt like a jerk. What better way to say something to an ex than to have songs on your latest album directed towards them hurting you? I wish I could do that to my ex boyfriend but I'm no rock star. "You'd said that I was useless But now you'll take me in again" This reminds me of how my ex would treat me bad until it was convenient for him or he needed something and is probably the line on the whole album that touched me the most. |

| R.E.M. – (Don't Go Back To) Rockville Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I can't believe people assume every R.E.M song is about Michael Stipe's sexuality. Anyway, the story I heard was that the song was written about a girl that Mike Mills the bass player was in love with and how she was leaving town to go back to where she came from and it was a plea for her to stay. I see other people have heard the same story. It was more a Mike Mills written song than a Stipe one. Stipe doesn't write all the lyrics just most of them. Sometimes Mills writes lyrics. | |
| R.E.M. – Pretty Persuasion Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's funny, but I always thought the song was about Michael Stipe as a young man dealing with his bisexuality. | |
| U2 – Desire Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"And the fever, when I'm beside her" I believe in some live performances Bono has changed "beside" to "inside". Not sure if he was told by the record company he couldn't have such a direct sexual reference on the album or what... |
|
| Madonna – Burning Up Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Unrequited love. She loves this other person and either that person doesn't want her or has no clue. She'll do anything to fulfill her desire for this other person but the person isn't acknowledging her existence. "you don't even know I'm alive" | |
| R.E.M. – Crush With Eyeliner Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Stipe has called himself an "equal opportunity lech". Not sure why people take his own personal admission of sleeping with both men and women as being "gay". He's not straight but he's not gay either. Are people really that homophobic that anyone who has any sexual relationship with their own gender must automatically be gay even if they've had just as much sexual contact with the opposite gender? I heard that Courtney thought this song was about her but it was never intended to be. Having seen the video for the song and having seen them in concert and the video played on the big screen on the Monster tour I'd say this song was more about oddly dressed teenagers. |

| R.E.M. – The One I Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song reminds me of an abusive ex-boyfriend I had. He literally would go from woman to woman and use them for whatever he wanted or needed and then leave them when he got bored. It was his version of love. He liked saying he loved people but he really didn't know how to do anything other than use and abuse and then move on to his next victim. | |
