| The Ting Tings – Fruit Machine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's probably about their record company seeing as how half the album is about that same subject. | |
| Blink-182 – Fuck a Dog Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is one of the most emotionally touching songs of all time. I think I might cry :( | |
| Bayside – The Ghost of St. Valentine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The narrator is seeing how love has disappeared in lieu of one night stands and sexual appetite. He doesn't want to exist in a world where love isn't the most important thing anymore. Really sad song, in part because it's so true. One of my favorites off the new album. |
| Every Time I Die – INRIhab Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Seems to me Keith is a pretty big fan of the darkness. INRIhab is a clear play on the cross that last honest man has pointed out; he'd rather go out and have the time of his life than worry about salvation and faith. He's being rehabbed from the light and is going back to the darkness, not the other way around... well, at least IMO. Awesome song. |
| Kevin Devine – Love Me, I'm a Liberal Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is definitely based on Phil Ochs' song of the same name. Foreversend is right on the money. I can't help but laugh a little when I hear this song. I played No Time Flat in the car once with my dad- who happens to be a huge Phil Ochs fan- and we agreed No Time Flat was something along the lines of what Ochs might play if he was still around. Go figure that this comes out, haha. |
| Alkaline Trio – Into The Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Skiba wrote it, but IMO Adriano's acoustic version is even better than the original. | |
| Taking Back Sunday – Belgium Waffle Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is one of the saddest songs in the history of music. "Waffles" represents John Nolan and Jesse Lacey and any drama that could go on between the two and, of course, Adam Lazzara, the writer of this tragedy. Adam is lamenting how he isn't seeing John and Jesse and how the lack of drama is preventing him from writing anymore songs, since every song he has ever written is about John and Jesse and he doesn't have any other material to draw from as inspiration. When Adam says, "I think that's bullshit" I can feel his inner anguish crying at me through the microphone. Forget Yesterday by the Beatles, THIS is the ultimate song about heartbreak. I think I'm going to cry listening to it right now... :'( | |
| OneRepublic – Apologize Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I don't think it's just about a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Like others have said, it could definitely refer to a close friendship or familial relationship. Really, any sort of abusive, one-way relationship where the writer is being hurt and finally decides to end it. | |
| Crime in Stereo – ...But You Are Vast Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It seems to be about a girl who he hooks up with. Problem is, he's in love with her but she isn't in love with him. He starts doing a lot of things he deeply regrets because he can't handle her emotional rejection. He knows he needs to get away from her for good, but his yearning for her causes him to continue sleeping with her and further hurt himself. One of the best songs about pure desperation I've ever heard. The new album is growing on me. |
| Alkaline Trio – '97 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I meant to say xsp14 is right... not just xsp14. Whoops. | |
| Alkaline Trio – '97 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| xsp14, this is song is definitely about pot. "To dry my eyes / When I breathe you in" makes it beyond obvious. | |
| Elliott Smith – Oh Well, Okay Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, it's definitely a monologue to himself about his inability to be happy or deal with people and his acceptance of it in the end since he just doesn't know what to do to fix it. Such a melancholy song and one of my favorites from the greatest artist of my lifetime. Elliott, we miss you :( RIP |
| Motion City Soundtrack – Broken Heart Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yep fallingangel, much like Saves The Day, MCS is great at singing some really, really sad lyrics, but putting them in some very catchy songs. This is one of my personal favorites from MCS. I'm looking forward to the new album. |
| I Am the Avalanche – Dead and Gone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Oh yeah OneSecondRegrets, I know that all too well. This is my personal favorite from IATA, in part because I can relate... it hurts so much to have to come to terms with the fact the one you love the most has to be left in the past. |
| Chris Cornell – Billie Jean (Michael Jackson cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Man, Michael Jackson really messed up this song when he covered it. Cornell's original is so much better. Just kidding. :p Seriously though, not a bad cover. I'm surprised Cornell performed it though... I wouldn't envision MJ as one of his influences. |
| Elliott Smith – Alameda Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's Elliott singing to himself. It's not about drama queens or ex-girlfriends, it's about Elliott's inability to be closer to people. | |
| The Movielife – Hand Grenade Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is about one of those guys that sets his sights on a girl that will never want him back. Vinnie's telling him to get as far away from her as possible so he doesn't get hurt (she'll blow up in his face like a hand grenade; he throws the hand grenade to get away from her). Great advice really, although I suspect Vinnie is talking to himself here. Great song, and so, so true. I just hope I'm not always this guy... haha |
| Nightmare Of You – Dear scene, I wish I were deaf Lyrics | 18 years ago |
FOB used to be so good when they played fun pop/punk. It's been downhill ever since Take This To Your Grave though. This song is awesome and my favorite from NOY. Definitely about the dreaded scenester kids and I'm guessing probably in part about his experiences with fans while he was with The Movielife. Sadly a lot of the hardcore scene fans up here are even bigger tools than the ones who like newer Fall Out Boy... :( |
| Latterman – Video Games And Fantasy Novels Are Fucking Awesome! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Is it just me, or at about the 2:34 mark in this song do they start yelling, "MEIN KAMPF!" | |
| Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm not sure what's worse, the old Avril Lavigne or this perhaps even more annoying Silicon Spears clone. To be fair, this might not be quite as horrible as Hollaback Girl... |
| Kevin Devine – Just Stay Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| There's a lot of obvious references to cocaine in a lot of KD's songs, so it's probably cocaine. Plus "sharing a chopping block"... he talks about chopping lines all the time, so it fits. | |
| The Comeback Kid – Industry Standards Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's funny, yours is the third comment I've seen on three different Broadcasting... songs that says "my favorite off the new album" noting the lack of comments. Tells you something about how great the new album is. | |
| The Comeback Kid – Hailing On Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I don't know if I could pick a best song off the album, the entire thing is absolutely incredible. This is one of my favorites though. | |
| The Comeback Kid – Broadcasting... Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The intro to the album is Defeated, not Broadcasting- but this is a really good song. I can't really figure out what it's about though. | |
| Alkaline Trio – Hell Yes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well that makes sense, thanks Jonny. Anyone know when the "new" album from the Trio is coming out? |
| Bright Eyes – If Winter Ends Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me it sounds like Oberst is going off to college but has to leave the one he loves behind to do so. He realizes college isn't for him and it won't give his life a purpose, so he drinks to try to forget about leaving the thing that meant the most to him behind. As a side note, leave it to Conor Oberst to weave clever mockery about college into such a sad song. |
| Alkaline Trio – Hell Yes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| FYI... Matt Skiba is a card-carrying member of the Church of Satan. There's no question this song is about blasphemy. | |
| Bayside – The Walking Wounded Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It probably reminds you of The Movielife because the guest vocalist- Vinnie Caruana from I Am The Avalanche- was The Movielife's lead singer (he formed IATA after TM broke up). Nice opener, and it might not even be one of the best songs on the album. I d/l an advance copy, and the album is really, really, really good, it'll probably be one of the best releases this year. Beatz would be proud, may he RIP. |
| Alkaline Trio – If You Had A Bad Time Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I don't know that it's specifically about drugs or depression because the song could fit either problem. IMO the song is just a general attempt to help push a good friend out of the funk they've been in and for them to live life their way, to be their own person. Great song, one of AK3 and Dan's best. This song alone makes the OMA split (and Remains for that matter) worth buying. |
| The Lawrence Arms – 100 Resolutions Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is my favorite Lawrence Arms song. I'll be blasting it at midnight on the 31st to celebrate the New Year. It's so upbeat and motivational, not to mention completely kick-ass! | |
| Hawthorne Heights – Ohio Is for Lovers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Stuff like this (and the subculture) is either 'mall emo' or 'MTVmo', whatever you want to call it. It's insanely mislabeled. BTW, if there were such a thing as an 'emo' he would be too busy slam-dancing in mosh pits to care about what people thought of him. No one said the music sucks, at least not me. Hell, Alkaline Trio is one of my favorite bands and they certainly fall under the 'mall emo' category. |
| A Wilhelm Scream – Less Bright Eyes, More Deicide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Ruiner is a really good hardcore/punk album, AWS is getting better and better. If you like these guys I highly recommend their Nitro Records labelmates Crime In Stereo and No Trigger. Especially NT, they're a new band and their album Canyoneer is fucking amazing. CIS' The Troubled Stateside is too, it's a must-have if you like hardcore/punk. | |
| Hawthorne Heights – Ohio Is for Lovers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Anyone associating emo with this band needs to get a clue what the hell emo even is. Emo has nothing to do with emotional music. Emotional music has been made for much, much longer than the term "emo" has even existed. Emo is short for EMOTIVE HARDCORE! Crap like this (and yes, Hawthorne Heights IS crap) is post-hardcore- no, it isn't pop-punk with screaming, it's the worst post-hardcore known to man. Aaaaaaanyway actual emo is bands like Rites Of Spring and Embrace. Bands being called emo (and screamo for that matter) these days are pop-punk and post-hardcore bands being mislabeled by people too goddamn satisfied with being ignorant to get their facts right. There's your lesson for the day. |
| Stretch Arm Strong – Express Yourself (NWA Cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| When I saw the song title I didn't think it could possibly be a cover but upon realizing it is, it's awesome. | |
| Youth Group – Let It Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The vocals sound like Bob Dylan. Creepily like him. Good song though. And it sounds like "Burn your pages, destroy what you know" in the last chorus but that's just me. | |
| Lifetime – Young, Loud, And Scotty Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"This is such an incredible song! You can really tell that early Saves the Day drew influence straight from these guys. They're both from Jersey, go figure." BurningStar, there's a ton of influence. Saves The Day's first album, Can't Slow Down, sounded so much like Lifetime they were referred to as Jersey's Second-Best Dancers. |
| Youth Group – Forever Young Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"The OC can suck my nuts, they screwed this song up, everyone plays it now and you hear it all the time and it takes away the all over coolness of it." Does anyone else want to help me lock Captain Planet the Pretentious Bitch with the rest of his pretentious bitch buddies in a basement with Say Anything's "Admit It!!!" blasting down there? Please, just shut up about The OC ruining a song. The OC brought a good song to the world, that's it. What, now that a ton of people know about it the song is ruined? Go fuck yourself. |
| Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Why would FOB make a song about the gangster/rap/hip-hop scene? To me this is definitely about the pop/punk scene. Hey parker, if you don't like the song why comment on it? What a "GAY" thing to do. |
| Gym Class Heroes – Clothes Off! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Hmm... willlliw, you sound like a gay. Maybe you should try to F Patrick Stump in the A to relieve some of your repressed anger. Now then, yes, it is definitely Patrick Stump singing and this is a great summer party song. Most of this album is good for the summer. |
| Gym Class Heroes – New Friend Request Lyrics | 19 years ago |
TANK, that line is amazing and hilarious, as is the rest of this song. GCH is awesome. |
| Ludacris – Money Maker Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Not all music has to be about the important things in the world, halfpunk, and if it was I guarantee music would be so much more depressing while the suicide rate would skyrocket. This is tasteless but fun music that's good for a party. If you're looking for something more sophisticated, you're in the wrong place, period. |
| Kevin Devine – Heaven Bound and Glory Be Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's on his new album Put Your Ghost To Rest but unfortunately there was a small initial distribution of said album that it's tough to find anywhere (especially since he took a lot of said distribution with him on his tour). If you want to get it buy it off Amazon.com. You can get it really cheap from some of the "used & new" sellers, under $10. You could also download it like I did for the time being but that would be pretty shitty since while he is now on a major label he's not exactly raking in money and he's very talented; he deserves any success he has. |
| Kevin Devine – You'll Only End Up Joining Them Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I agree with splitintwo although "a bag" could also be a reference to pot (nickel or dime bag). This album is soooooo good. |
| Paris Hilton – Do Ya Think I'm Sexy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Stupid useless piece of crap skank. I hope she dies of an unknown STD. | |
| Bayside – Dear Tragedy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The perfect ending to one of the best albums of last year. It's strangely comforting to roll the windows down with this song blasting on the stereo and singing along. The meaning is pretty clear to me. The guy really loves someone but she takes advantage of his love. This taking advantage rips at him as he's already being destroyed by feeling so alone that he loses the desire to care anymore and grows to hate her. |
| Fenix TX – Rooster Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is absolutely frickin hilarious. | |
| 30 Seconds to Mars – The Kill Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is incredible and easily my favorite from 30STM, which is saying something as I love both their self-titled and A Beautiful Lie. " 30 Seconds To Mars - The Kill Artists > 30 Seconds To Mars > The Kill Submitted by pressreset on June 19, 2005 Advertisement RINGTONESAHEAD - Download Free Ringtones What if I wanted to break Laugh it all off in your face What would you do What if I fell to the floor Couldn't take all this anymore What would you do do do Come break me down Bury me, bury me I am finished with-- OHHH!! Great, great song. |

| Bloc Party – Helicopter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
As a 20-year old American I absolutely despise the worthless piece of garbage wasting perfectly good oxygen that stole an election from Robo-Gore and whose name should not be said because he doesn't deserve the honor of being recognized by his proper name. The day he dies many like me will be celebrating. I can only hope he dies a death worse than all the unfortunate American soldiers who have fallen for him (not for our country, Iraq will NEVER be America's war) combined. Back to the song... this song definitely appears to be about Bush for all of the reasons previously stated. This and Pioneers are both very anti-Iraq war songs, although the latter is directed more at the UK ("we" is obviously not America) while this is an attack on Bush. I never thought I'd see System Of A Down's attacks on Bush be outdone but this is easily the best I've heard. Kudos to BP on a great song and an even greater album. BTW, does anyone else picture Kanye West saying, "George Bush doesn't care about black people," when Kele sings "He doesn't like chocolate"? |
| Men, Women & Children – Dance In My Blood LP Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| What is with these ex-GlassJaw guys and dance bands? Think about it: Palumbo is in Head Automatica, now Weinstock starts MW&C... strange. | |
