Metallica – For Whom The Bell Tolls Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the song speaks about the horrible sacrifices that are necescary to win a war. "For a hill they would kill, why? They do not know" speaks of the ingnorance of the average soldier about the mission, yet he is the one who bleeds to reach the goal. The song is very cool, but I don't think that it is really anti-war. Sure, you could look at it like that, but myself, being pretty patriotic, I think that the song really just speaks to their sacrifices.

Oh and for all those anti-war people-

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Devotchka – How It Ends Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree that the song is about death.
In my mind, when I hear the song I think of a lone Iraqi Insurgent who "Already knows how it will end", and is preparing to die for Allah, either by suicide belt, or as a defender of Fallujah.

Sia – Breathe Me Lyrics 18 years ago
The meaning to me is that of a military sniper. The lyricss go really well with this.
" Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame"
-The Sniper is referring to the person that he has shot "I've done it again" and he has done this multiple times "Ive been here many times before", and the only person that the sniper can blame for doing this is himself. He is the one killing other people.

The long pause between the lines; And breathe me and then a 5 second pause; OUCH.

The Sniper is literally breathing, a key component of any type of marksmanship. He holds his breath for the few second pause in the song, sweezes the trigger and then the bullet stricks the enemy with the line "OUCH!"

"Ouch I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found,
Yeah I think that I might break
I've lost myself again and I feel unsafe"

Ouch indicates the bullet hit the enemy, and now he has literally lost himself. He i a cold blooded killer who is slowly slipping away from being a normal sane human being.
