La Roux – Armour Love Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a straightforward break-up song. The stuff about putting up defences etc. are comments about the ex-lover's behaviour.

Manic Street Preachers – William's Last Words Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with pretty much all the comments here–it's a beautiful song but Nicky Wire's voice is awful. I also read it as a suicide note; it would be interesting to see the full prose version, but the lyrics that made it to the album are unambiguously suicidal.

Manic Street Preachers – Marlon J.D. Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about Marlon Brando, and his character in the film 'Reflections In A Golden Eye'. 'J.D.' possibly stands for James Dean.

>this song is about domestic violence

Agreed, but what do the murder in '73 and the robbery in '62 have to do with anything?

The Vaselines – Son Of A Gun Lyrics 19 years ago
Son of a Gun isn't on Unplugged. Also, Kurt was pretty vocal about his love of The Vaselines; I think most people who have heard the Nirvana version know they didn't write it. I agree with Whiskeyclonehotel, I think it's about sex.

Belle & Sebastian – Lazy Line Painter Jane Lyrics 20 years ago
I have a couple of points: 1) Why am I the first person to comment on this, when it's one of the best songs ever recorded. 2) I think I get the meaning of almost every word in the song, about a mixed up girl with a bad reputation. But why the hell is she 'painting lines'?
