Ah, this song. I always listen to it after a break-up or when I'm missing a usually abusive ex. It's clear this song is about a break-up, or loss of a connection with someone. As a previous commentor mentioned, it involves two people, who are wrong for each other, but somehow they are involved with one another. However, their time together hurts one another. They inflict pain into each other, particularly the songwriter. He knows he is the source of her pain. "I didn't really lose you...I just lost it for a while" Denial that it is over. Likely, it was a tumultuous relationship, causing the person who inflicted the pain or both parties perhaps to be unable to see the truth...that the relationship is over because they were so invested in it. I must say, as a victim of abusive relationships...it's often difficult to let go of abusive partners despite the pain and daggers that they inflict over and over again in me. This song always rings a bell to me in terms of relationships like that. Also, I highly recommend the electric version over the acoustic...it's way more haunting, and emotional. |

| This song reminds me of the end of my last relationship...when things began to go south. We argue a lot...little things make you ask "What does that mean?" the line "Maybe I'll see you sometime" makes me think of that. The whole point of "You made me forget my dreams" also reminds me of when sometimes someone breaks-up with you and it's sort of sudden, like a chair is pulled out underneath, you were thinking pleasant things prior, you were dreaming and the incident forced you to forget your dreams. | |

Wanting friendship from someone you thought was a lot different than you expected them to be aka how they acted/reason why it ended. guy dumped me and i pressumed we could be friends because we got along well together and had so much in common, but that idea and perception was just in my head, it wasn't realistic. "it's all in your mind" is saying the same thing. It's only in my head that we could be friends...because realistically it's not what you want nor would it work. ain't love grand? p.s. due to my ex being still stuck on his dumb fashionanble ex-girlfriend both were from LA and Beck being from L.A. You LA boys need to stay away from women involved in fashion. I mean really, what's with cool dudes into girls who are superficial and care only about themselves? It's about frustration over someone. Being invisible to the person you're interested in. "when i hear someone's taking my place " -The person is dating someone else. "when all, all that i did was for you " -The person tried really hard to get the other person's attention but failed. When I listened to bad music (this) and was fifteen, I thought of this song as the situation I had with this boy I had a crush on at my high school, who didn't even know who I was, and became sad by the fact I felt invisible. I think this song also talks about betrayal. |

I think this song is about acceptance especially in high school; acceptance among the popular crowd in high school. It delts with how people can' change opinions people have of them "and long for them to fall in love with you, but they never do" hence "theyw ay you look the way you look is fine" because the girl pressumably or boy is trying to change their look to fit in. They feel abd about themself thus "I'm going to tell you something good about yourself..." I sat in my bed last night, this song is a haunting reminder of my senior year, which is right now. A bunch of the "cool "indie" (they arenbt indie) kids at my school, who are popular, shunned me out, and I guess I tried to have them change their mind. Doesn't work, like yourself for who you are! |
