The lyrics above aren't complete. There is a second chorus running quitely under the lead vocals chorus. If you listen it is there.

East 17 – Stay Another Day Lyrics 6 years ago
Song is about someone leaving or passing away. And trying to postpone it and then remembering them. As I understand it Tony wrote it as a tribute to his late brother.

The Smiths – I Know It's Over Lyrics 9 years ago
Without doubt this is Morrisseys masterpiece both in the lyrics and in the vocal delivery. It is probably one of the most saddest and depressing songs ever perfromed. The song is doomed romanticism at its best.
Like their similar themed Well I Wonder, Asleep, Last Night I dreamt.. and Please Please Please.. ones I like to listen to when feeling down. Bizarrely they pick me up.

The Smiths – Well I Wonder Lyrics 9 years ago
A not so well known or celebrated SMITHS Song, but quite possibly their best. The true SMITHS aficionados know its a gem.
A perfect fusion of music and lyric. Simple, but raw. The Song is so beautiful, haunting, it never leaves you.. The last 30 seconds of Marr's guitar just get me, and Morrissey rarely sings better. Wonderful.

The Waterboys – How Long Will I Love You? Lyrics 9 years ago
surprised there are no comments on this beautiful song. Covered recently by Ellie Goulding and in the ABOUT TIME movie. However I still prefer this original version by Mike Scott and The Waterboys. As imple love song that just says it straight. One for a wedding.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – Souvenir Lyrics 12 years ago
The original 3rd and 4th verses that were edited out for 7" version help to reinforce the earlier comments:

My situation
It's imagination
There's no excuse
It's instantly clear

The conversation
The combination
I tell the truth
My feelings still remain

The Cars – Drive Lyrics 13 years ago
..this song reflects someone dealing with a lover who has cracked, broken down (whether it be alcohol, drugs or just mental breakdow)as a result of their lifestyle. They have loved them and they have had to deal with them and they are at the end of wanting to look out for them, but for wahtever reason, love, loyalty, friendship they remain at grudgingly at their call. It certainly is a moving song and the video reflects the song.

..I remember the song being used in the 1985 Live Aid concert in the UK... anyone from the UK that watched the concert will recollect this - the song used with the images of the children in Ethiopia, and their starved malnourished bodies... I vividly remember the way a child struggled to stand as the line "who's gonna pick you up when you fall" played.. The song and imagery at that point was truly harrowing to watch, and brought home the extent of the disaster.. and the fact that as it finished the BBC presenters wept live on air.

Don Henley – The Boys of Summer Lyrics 13 years ago
Nobody on the road

....loved this song in my teens in the 80s. Did not really listen to the words - just liked the sound and chorus.. a reat summer driving song. Over the years I hear it now and again and it still sounds great, and always makes me reminisce ..

I always heard the first verse lyrics like this and not as above:

Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I'm driving by your house
Though I know you're not hurting

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – Souvenir Lyrics 14 years ago
...I would support but add to the previous interpretations. When the song first came out I also assumed the song related to an obsession that had passed (as such it was now a souvenir - a recollection of a powerful emotion). What however always got me were the lines: "All I need is
Co-ordination". Then I saw the video on TOTPs in the UK and it all made sense. The video has Andy M (the other member of the OMD Duo) driving an old convertible sportscar, with Paul H singing the song. It is all set in a stately home, gardens. I then assumed that the souvenir was a car he has just sold - a car he probably painstakingly restored, loved but could never drive (hence "coordination" element). Could be wrong but that kind of makes sense.... In any case apart from the beautiful simplicity of the lyrics, it is a damn good tune.

A*Teens – I Promised Myself Lyrics 14 years ago
...of course this was a song written and sung well before this in 1990 by Nik Kamen (of Madonna and Levi fame). This was actually a good song that did well in eUROPE - except for the UK where his previous songs did not do down well. This osng was dance remixed in 2004, and covered by a few oter artists. The original 90 version is better in my view than the other covers.
The song is clear in the sense it is someone waiting for their lover, promising that they will. I assume however they are not returning and they know that - possibly because they have died.

Bread – Aubrey Lyrics 14 years ago
...I have heard two accounts of what this song was about. I read an article that said David Gates wrote this song about a lady neighbour of his mothers who had died. He helped the family clear out the house and on seeing some photos of the young lady felt he should have got to know her more. I also remember seeing a separate article about Bread which analysed a number of the lyrics of David Gates, including this one. In it it said that the song was written about a woman who had a daughter that died very young and it was reflecting the hopes, wishes and dreams. Whatever its meaning is a very beautiful song.

Dion and the Belmonts – The Wanderer Lyrics 14 years ago

This song kinda of sums up the first 30 years of my life! I think my take on the lyrics below is correct..

Ohh - well I'm the type of guy
Who will never settle down
Where pretty girls are
Well you know that I'm around

I kiss 'em and I love 'em
'Coz to me there all the same
I hug 'em and I squeeze 'em
They don't even know my name

They call me "the Wanderer"
Yeh - "The Wanderer"
I roam around, around, around, around

Ohh - well there's Flo on my left arm
and there's Mary on my right
And Janie is the girl
Well that I'll be with tonight-a

And when she asks me
Which one I love the best-a?
I tear open my shirt
and show her Rosie on my chest

'Coz I'm a wanderer
Yeh - "The Wanderer"
I roam around, around, around, around

Oh - Well I roam from town to town
I go through life without a care
And I'm as happy as a clown
With my two fists of iron
but I'm going nowhere

Oh - yeh I'm the type of guy
that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place
I roam from town to town

And when I find myself
Falling for some girl
Yeh - I hope right in that car of mine
I drive around the world

Yeh - I'm a wanderer
Yeh - a wanderer
I roam around, around, around, around...yeh

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

Oh - yeh I'm the type of guy
that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place
I roam from town to town

When I find myself
Falling for some girl
Yeh - I hop right in that car of mine..
...Drive around the world

'Coz I'm a wanderer
Yeh - a wanderer
I roam around, around, around, around, around

'Coz I'm a wanderer
Yeh - a wanderer
I roam around, around, around, around, around, around (fade)

Nik Kershaw – I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me Lyrics 15 years ago
yep, spot on with this analysis. Nik's comment on the cold war supported by a typical brit mid-80s video which inlcudes footage of a staged concert and part video of old men in striped suits trying to restrain his message.

My personal favourite of their body of songs.
The vocal mix of the song is slightly disappointing - the melody is great, especially the last part chord change which is brilliant.
The song embraces the feelings of moving on..

The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics 16 years ago
have just noticed that the posted lyrics are in fact incorrect .. as is sung by Morrissey (and not as per the printed album lyrics)

FIRST VERSE should be as follows:

Take me out tonight,
where there's music and there's people
and the young and alive,

In concerts Morrissey sometimes sung the following

Take me out tonight
oh take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
driving in your car
I never never want to go home
because I haven't got one....alone
no, I haven't got one...anymore

THE LAST VERSE FADE OUT
There is a light and it never goes out [ x 8 times]

Mark Ronson – Stop Me Lyrics 16 years ago
Look up The Smiths, "Stop me if you think you've heard this one before", for more interpretations of Morrissey's lyrics. I am not normally a fan of covers, especially those of THE SMITHS, and although this version does nothing for me, it at least brings a completely different style and arrangement to the song, which is what a cover should do.
The video is odd though. Any interpretations on that!

Tears for Fears – Mad World Lyrics 16 years ago
...this is the TFF song we are talking about here isn't it??? Gary jules and Donnie Darko should be written about elsewhere.
This original version of the song should really be heard as part of TFFs first album "the Hurting"82. The album explores a number of similar themes - pale shelter, change, etc. worth listening too to understand the context of mad world
the style is typical of the british early 80s pop sound - so yes it uses synthesisers but in my view still sounds fresh compared to similar british bands of the time. the promo videos that accompanied the album were also fairly typical, but roland does introduce us to a special kind of dance.
generally this album is underated and although "mad world" is lyrically excellent, pale shelter edges it for me.

Icicle Works – Whisper To A Scream Lyrics 16 years ago
another lyrically descriptive and theatrical sung IWs release. this has the typical heavy drumming style common of many english early-mid 80s bands (esp. adam and the ants). sounds a lot like similar liverpudlian bands (echo & bunnymen, julian cope) of the time.
like many of ian's songs, beautifully crafted lyrics. I always associated this as a spiritual song.

Chris Montez – Time after time Lyrics 16 years ago
The title track of chris's second mid sixties "come back" album continues the easy listening sound. Both albums are classic easy listening sixties music. this is my fave of the tracks. the recordings seem to have a relaxed almost laid back nature and an element of lets just play and see what happens... as with many of the songs the lyrics talk about love and peace,

Pet Shop Boys – West End Girls Lyrics 18 years ago
I recollect that Neil Tennant said in an interview that the song was rather made up on the spur of a moment - it used the drum pattern of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean and the lyrics were inspired by Grandmaster Flash "The Message" and a James Cagney Gangsters film (the gun line).
To me it is a mix of different narrotors highlighting London of the time and thus the cosmopolitan feel (collage) of London.

Paul Young – Love Of The Common People Lyrics 18 years ago

Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue Sky Lyrics 18 years ago
A great 70s song - certainly has late Beatles influences, (Good Day Sunshine, Here Comes The Sun) but it is certainly a happy song both lyrially and in the tune. I particulalrly the various shifts in pace and tune and the way the song ends several times and then to start again. ELO make effective use of orchestra (like the Beatles and other 70s acts such as Barclays James Harvest) but Jeff is certainly a master of the pop song.

Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is o.k. certainly not the best Oasis song. Good sing-a-long and came out at the right time and was certainly a strong song at the time of its released compared to to others, but if it was released in the mid-late 60s or late 70s or mid 80s it would have been one of many other good songs of the time.
Oasis are good but they cannot be compared to the likes of The Stones or Beatles until they have been around as long as these bands. The issue is in the body of work they leave and its timelessness twenty-thrirty years later. Whther you like the Stones or The Beatles it cannot be denied that much of their work is known by many and has stood the test of time. Perhaps Oasis wll be seen to have similar status in 2025. I doubt it - perhaps a handful of songs will be seen as great. Many of their tunes sound like the Beatles, Stones and other late 60s bands in any case.
This song is lyrically one of their better ones but I prefer earlier songs by other artists reflecting the same sentiment about someone's inspiration and salvation - such as The Waterboy's Whole of the Moon.
