this song hits me more and more every time i hear it. it reminds me of tom robbins' representations of brilliant waitresses with degrees forced to make ends meet with blue collar jobs. i read it as an ode to these sort of women: the characters in the diner realize that these waitresses possess some sort of higher knowledge than their jobs let on, and "barangrill" is regarded as a place to obtain this higher knowledge, like the river in siddhartha. "you ask the truck driver if he's just a slave to barangrill", just driving around looking for enlightenment. |

He does a similar thing with the Billy the Kid lyric in that other song...I think he's really into the way words can split to sound like different ways of saying things. In "Fall of Mr. Fifths" he says "bricks that I hit with my fists" and then reiterates the same line to change the meaning (or just to make it less ambiguous). Either way, this song is grand. Seems the meaning's pretty easy: he's really into this girl, but mostly cause he doesn't understand her. Just with a weird psychic/palm reader theme, ha. :] |

This song is so beautiful. The movement is totally natural, so easy to listen to. I adore the drum part. I think this song is pretty straight forward in meaning: someone has been going through a rough time, maybe for 2 years, and they just want to simplify and forget about it. And the narrator can't do anything to help. Sad, but beautiful. |
