I don't see how anyone can use the "three wise men" without acknowledging biblical references. The wise men were in search of Messiah and salvation and purity. These wise men came down from heaven and therefore were already in possession of salvation and purity, so the question has to be what were they looking for in this world? There are two ways that man aspires to God and they are religion and art. I think this is about the corruption of art into celebrity, the rejection of what is good in favour of what is popular. I think he is all three of the wise men and has beat a retreat to the sea. But if he's living in a semi, whose walls adjoin his? Maybe no retreat is complete. |

This song is deeply unhealthy. This whole love that he's built up on a glance isn't possible - he says they've shared a moment but the reciprocation isn't confirmed and never will be. He's not relating to reality at all - that kind of pure love can only exist in a vacuum of fantasy. He would have to kill himself - there's no other way of circumventing the disillusion or corruption of her response. He's either a stalker or a martyr, but can't translate that one moment into reality. |
