Styx – Father O.S.A. Lyrics

I doubt it- Dennis DeYoung, who wrote this song, is a devout Catholic. To me it seems more like a lament for those whom the world has left with the passing of time. |

Pink Floyd – Any Colour You Like Lyrics

I think Dark Side of the Moon is somewhat of a concept album about life in general. Breathe is about birth and the increasingly enslaving life which follows it; Time describes how nothing good (ie, youth) ever lasts; The Great Gig in the Sky is religion, Money is greed; Us and Them depicts bigotry and a black-and-white view of the world...and then we come to this song.
When the Model-T car was released, consumers were told they could buy in any colo(u)r they liked, as long as it was black. Same with this song- we feel like we have so many choices in life, yet many times we really don't. The whole album represents a range of universal experiences that everyone can relate to- no matter who you are, you have undoubtedly experienced every one of the record's topics. |

Coldplay – How You See the World Lyrics

I think he's saying you can't learn everything from a book- all the numbers and equations in the world will never tell us how to live a fulfilling life. "You can't believe what you learn," i.e., the best way to learn is to just live and figure things out for yourself through experience. |

Mastodon – Pendulous Skin Lyrics

So he reaches the top of the mountain, but I doubt he makes it back after being frostbitten, starving, and eating his own flesh. I picture him laying in the snow, inches from death, and tripping out in some weird pre-mortem euphoria. That could be why the voices are barely intelligible. |

King Crimson – The ConstruKction of Light Lyrics

I think it also points out how afraid people are of feeling insignificant. Without a god watching over us we become just another speck in an infinite sea of stars, in the big scheme of things no more important than a speck of dirt. |

Winterpills – Threshing Machine Lyrics

It starts out with a guy and a girl who are friends and hang out together. But each realizes they have stronger feelings for the other but are afraid to say anything, fearing that the other will not feel the same way. When they finally discuss the situation (the "rabbit hole"- a metaphor for a portal to new realm), they begin to doubt that they can ever live together as a serious couple. They cannot imagine themselves "in a house" or any other place that indicates commitment- they can never be more than friends.
That's my interpretation, anyway. |

King Crimson – Lament Lyrics

I read this was about King Crimson's discontent with their record label, and how once upon a time, the bands made their own decisions, but now they are essentially the property of the record companies. |

...but look closely at the hammerhead hand in hand with the mandrill
This song is crazy- and Belew's vocals fit right in. |

The Slip – Even Rats Lyrics

I dunno, it seems to me the narrator of the song is telling how he doesn't care what happens in the world as long as he can enjoy his own life(ie, take a love song and beautify). Even though everyone else is running and panicking, he is content to lay back and chill.
But I may think this only because I am apolitical myself- just goes to show how a listener often finds much deeper meaning in a song than was originally intended, thanks to the influence of his own beliefs. |

King Crimson – The Mincer Lyrics

Oh, my bad- seems I did them out of order. The correct lyrics are:
Fingers reaching
Linger shrieking
Jump for the scream
Goodnight honey
You're all alone
Baby breathing
They come better looking
But they don't come mannered
Anyway, it seems to be about either
a) a man leaving his lover after she has cheated on him with a man who is "better looking" but not "mannered" -or-
b) a woman masturbating, because she realizes how difficult it is to find a man who has both those traits. |

Nice, Zorgn, I never saw that before. I always thought it was about Jesus coming to preach to humanity but being shunned, and the world falling apart as a result. |

King Crimson – Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With Lyrics

I agree wholeheartedly with TurnOutThe Lights. One of the reasons King Crimson is such a great band is because they don't go on and on about the same shit that other bands sing about just to satisfy the rebellious listeners. Way to attack the rebellion, King Crimson. |

This song could also apply to all the bands that tell listeners that they are being brainwashed, even though it is actually the bands that are doing the brainwashing.

Crossfade – Disco Lyrics

I think this song is about a girl who is using all of the unfortunate circumstances in her life to draw attention and sympathy to herself. She's a "whore begging for crack"(ie; a whore for attention). And all the people who buy it are stabbed in the back. |

The Killers – Somebody Told Me Lyrics

There are several possible explanations to the chorus:
1) The girl has a "boyfriend" who is actually a woman and the speaker dated this woman before.
2) The speaker dated what he thought was a girl but was actually a guy. The new girl is dating that guy.
3) The Killers wrote an incredibly weird song so that we would go crazy trying to interpret it. |

Jason Mraz – The Remedy (I Won't Worry) Lyrics

Knowing too much is a lot worse than not knowing enough. The second verse is my favorite- he's saying that people are happy when they are naive and are miserable once the illusion has been exposed and they have been enlightened. We shouldn't try to analyze everthing in our lives- we should just enjoy it. |

Barenaked Ladies – Pinch Me Lyrics

I think it's about a guy feeling trapped within his own life. He tries to accomplish something but always finds an excuse(Try to scream but it only comes out as a yawn/When you try to see the world beyond your front door). He's doing everything half-assed because he keeps waiting for some miracle to happen. |

I heard the same story about Chad Kroeger's grandmother and his ex, but I think this song is also
about someone who is depressed from some problems in his life but won't solve them because he likes being taken care of. Whenever someone tries to help, he pushes them away. |
