Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics | 12 years ago |
God does not exist, and Elton John is an atheist. So is Ray Bradbury for that matter. |
Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This series of comments is honestly the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on the internet, ever. The song is a fantasy about an astronaut at a point in the future when it's a blue-collar 9 to 5 job that anyone with a high school diploma can do, and the scientists all stay in mission control while the regular guys are off flying in space not really knowing or understanding the experiments they are doing. It is not about drugs, or being a closeted gay man, it wasn't even written by Elton John! Read the Ray Bradbury story Rocket Man if you want to know what the song is truly about, or continue living in your parents basement smoking resin out of a bent pepsi can. Your choice. |
David Bowie – China Girl Lyrics | 12 years ago |
you drug addicts need to get lives, not everything is about drugs, in fact, you will find the vast majority of songs are in fact NOT about drugs, it's only your drug-addled minds that grasp at strongs trying to find meaning in your pathetic miserable wastes of lives |
War – Spill The Wine Lyrics | 13 years ago |
you dopeheads need to stay off this website "oh yeah, this song is about drugs" no, it's about vaginas seriously, learn what slang is, nobody has ever called heroin "pearl," pearl here refers to vaginas, this song is about getting a woman drunk, and then having sex with her |
Louis XIV – A Letter To Dominique Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Above is right, he murdered her, made her forge a suicide note, cause she always talked about killing herself, and is now just thinking about the effects of her death. "Dear Dominique you have a bold imagination The countless ways you thought to die no hesitation Fantasize long enough, you know it just might come true" This says it all, he murdered her because she was always telling him about killing herself, so he made her dreams come true. |
Jet – Look What You've Done Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Not necessarily just about someone cheating, I think it's about throwing away a relationship in general, even a friendship, and the other person is done with them and decides to leave them on their own to stew in their misery. |
Bob Seger – Still The Same Lyrics | 13 years ago |
To me it's about a guy who was in love with a girl that never loved him because she could never settle down, and years later he runs into her again, and thinks for a moment that she is different and might return his feelings, and then he sees that she is the same, and he walks away. |
Electric Light Orchestra – Livin' Thing Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The song is about falling in love with someone, then losing it, and then moving on. I do believe it refers to suicide as well. That life is so precious that even in your worst moments it is still worth living, hence the "don't you do it don't you do it" parts in the chorus. |
The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's pointless to pick a favorite Beatle. They are all really good. And, my favorite songs they did are the ones where it was more than one person writing it anyway. |
Pink Floyd – The Fletcher Memorial Home Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Even though this is basically a Water solo album with Gilmour singing a chorus in one song, and doing a guitar solo here and there, I still love the album. The song itself is self explanatory. Roger Waters does not like politicians. |
Pink Floyd – The Final Cut Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I believe this song is about insecurity, and somewhat autobiographical, as a good portion of the Final Cut is, and that the "final cut" in question is a metaphor for his saying his true feelings, and just as he is about to, a simple distraction like a phone call convinces him to remain in his shell. Also, when he sings "show you my dark side" you hear the clocks from the beginning of "Time" off The Dark Side of the Moon, so I'm thinking that is a definite reference to the album. |
Golden Earring – Twilight Zone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
have none of you seen a ouija board? look at the word "No" on a ouija board, why, it's a moon and star! it's a reference to the thing on a ouija board being moved to "No", so its a metaphor for bad luck basically |
The Doors – Moonlight Drive Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i'm pretty sure this is about murdering someone "baby gonna drown tonight" hey stoners, sometimes a door is just a door, eh |
The Doors – Stoned Immaculate Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song, and the wasp, both break down to "don't waste your life" no eternal reward is heaven, or the afterlife, and wasting the dawn refers to not living your life to its fullest to ensure that you get an eternal reward |
The Doors – Back Door Man Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the pork and beans and chicken thing is a metaphor the men are getting pork and beans because that's a cheap easy supper, ie, they're wives aren't putting anything into it, if you catch my meaning the narrator on the other hand is getting chicken, which takes considerably more effort |
Franz Ferdinand – Live Alone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
he's basically saying he thinks he's above the the taxi driver, and calls him "man" so the driver thinks that he's a regular joe, when he's not |
Quad City DJ's – Space Jam Lyrics | 15 years ago |
One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there. |
The Killers – Forget About What I Said Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Narrator dated his friend's girlfriend after she dumped his friend. He is telling his friend to grow up. |
Supertramp – Crazy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the meaning is in the first few lines, it's a song to make you feel good i think this album is fantastically underrated, i hear people saying how great crime and breakfast are, and even in the quietest moments and crisis, but i never hear people talking about famous last words |
Supertramp – Goodbye Stranger Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the end of this song rocks |
The Who – The Good's Gone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
daltrey's voice sounds really cool in this song |
The Who – You Stand By Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
pete's thoughts on roger daltrey |
Supergrass – Bad Blood Lyrics | 15 years ago |
You guys must not be very familiar with Gaz Coombes' wonderful accent. It's "I hear bad blood." |
Supergrass – Bad Blood Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it is definitely "don't believe that man needs god, thank god" |
Supergrass – Brecon Beacons Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The murdered girl is a witch, the witches were crying because one fo their own died, and the townspeople are worried about what retribution the witches will have as revenge for the girl. |
The Rolling Stones – Jumpin Jack Flash Lyrics | 16 years ago |
They took two characters from slightly similar time periods, Englands "Spring-Heeled Jack" and America's "The Mad Gasser of Mattoon" and combined them. Spring-Heeled Jack was known to be able to jump all around, scaring women by breathing gas in their face, or fire, or clawing their clothes off. He challenged soldiers and was shot several times, with guns having no effect. He was seen by hundreds of people, too. Some stay he's still around in other parts of the world. The Mad Gasser was an unknown man or woman who went around and poured gas into people's homes, which made them ill, but wasn't fatal. Nobody has any explanation for why this person did it. |
Supergrass – Prophet 15 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Pretty sure it's about watching too much television. |
The Who – Dogs Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is the most british song ever. |
The Who – Long Live Rock Lyrics | 16 years ago |
an anthem for The Who if there ever was one |
The Who – Who Are You? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't think a band that has an album titled "The Who Sell Out," can actually sell out. So they want to make money, big deal, you can't tell me if you were in a band you wouldn't license your songs out. This is a sad song for me, knowing that it's the last time you'll hear Keith Moon. He does a really good job too. |
The Who – Rael Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Seems to be about a guy from Rael who is out traveling the seas in his boat when he hears that the Red Chins have invaded his homeland. He decides to take action and tells the captain of his boat to drop him off and return on Christmas, if the yellow flag of Rael is flying, that means he has won and they are to moor the boat. If a red flag is flying, then the Red Chins have prevailed and the guy is dead, hence "in Rael I'll stay," and they are to take the boat and get out of there. His men seem to think he's crazy, too. |
The Who – Sea And Sand Lyrics | 16 years ago |
one of my favorite vocal performances by daltrey, especially "dressed up better than anyone within a mile" |
The Who – My Generation Lyrics | 16 years ago |
yeah, the stutter was a way of getting it to sound like he would say fuck off on the radio to further frustrate old people, the song is burning the older generation, in the mid '60s the Who basically lived off Mods and how they ate them up so they wouldn't bash them, and they were mods themselves |
The Who – Glow Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This, like nearly all songs from the "Sell Out" period, as it was aptly added to that album for the cd release, have the most brilliant vocal melodies, they are just incredibly catchy, with a sort of whimsy to them. Absolutely perfect songs for radio, which is hilariously ironic in a sad way that the album didn't really do as well as it should have, and that it only had one single. A real shame. |
The Who – Helpless Dancer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I found it funny that this is labeled as (roger's theme) because it totally sounds like something another rocking roger would write, by that, I mean Roger Waters. In fact, the way Daltrey's voice bounces from one side to the other in this song really reminds me of Run Like Hell off the Wall, I'd like to think that that was an homage to this brilliant song off this brilliant album. |
Pink Floyd – Lost for Words Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think the Right One refers to Rick Wright and maybe Gilmour is saying that it was always Gilmour and Wright versus Waters for the songwriting, and with Wright gone there was no more "safety in numbers" and Waters was allowed to completely control the songwriting. |
Pink Floyd – Dogs Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Waters has certainly said as much, he views himself as a dog, rather than a pig or sheep. |
Pink Floyd – Poles Apart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'd call it an audio reference to Syd Barrett, listen to Bike, it gets kind of out there near the end and that's what it reminds me of most strongly. |
Pink Floyd – A Saucerful of Secrets Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The version on Ummagumma Live is fantastic and much better than the studio release. Namely Celestial Voices, as that's my favorite part of the song. |
Pink Floyd – When the Tigers Broke Free Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It is about being mad at the british government, more specifically, the high command. The forward commander isn't that high up in the rank but he was smart enough to note that they would all be killed holding a pointless spot for a while, however, for whatever reason the powers that be found the bridge to be worth those men's lives so they let them be killed. Then, to pour salt on the wound, sent out a scroll not even hand-signed. It evokes to me the scene in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly where Blondie and Tucco arrive at the bridge being fought at between the Union and Confederate soldiers, the Union general thinks it's pointless and will only kill men on both sides, but his high command told him the bridge is to be defended at all costs. |
Pink Floyd – Eclipse Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Enough has been said about what this song means. I think this is the best closer ever to an album, by any band. It's perfect. |
Pink Floyd – Poles Apart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
First part is Syd, second part is Roger, however the third part is leading to some confusion above. I personally think it's addressed to the band itself. No matter how many bad things happened to the band, Gilmour still overall enjoys being a part of it, and the last line is him saying goodbye to it. |
Pink Floyd – See-Saw Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Marigolds are very much in love But he doesn't mind Picking up his sister He makes his way to see saw lane All the way she smiles She goes up while he goes down, down Sits on a stick in the river Laughter in his sleep Sister's throwing stones Hoping for a hit He doesn't know so then She goes up while he goes down, down Another time, another day A brother's way to leave Another time, another day She'll be selling plastic flowers On a Sunday afternoon Picking up weeds She hasn't got the time to care All can see he's not there She grows up for another man, and he's down Another time, another day A brother's way to leave Another time, another day Another time, another day A brother's way to leave |
Pink Floyd – See-Saw Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Those lyrics are terribly inaccurate, they are: Marigolds are very much in love, but he doesn't mind Picking up his sister, he makes his way into the sea saw land All the way she smiles She goes up while he goes down, down Sits on a stick in the river Laughter in his sleep Sister's throwing stones, hoping for a hit He doesn't know so then She goes up while he goes down, down Another time, another day A brother's way to leave Another time, another day She'll be selling plastic flowers on a Sunday afternoon Picking up weeds, she hasn't got the time to care All can see he's not there She grows up for another man, and he's down Another time, another day A brother's way to leave Another time, another day Another time, another day A brother's way to leave Hopefully it's a bit more obvious what it's about. A girl and her brother are very close until her brother dies, most likely in a war (selling plastic flowers, those poppies that are sold for veterans) and she marries a man who replaces her brother, she goes up, or stays alive, and he is down, or dead. It's a very depressing song, despite how it sounds at first glance. |
Muse – Starlight Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I see it as being anti-suicide. |
Pink Floyd – Learning to Fly Lyrics | 17 years ago |
How to seperate a true Pink Floyd fan from the rest of the sheep. 1. A Pink Floyd fan will not say "This is about Syd Barrett" about EVERY SINGLE SONG THEY DID. Yeah, a few songs are about or inspired by him, but Roger Waters had a fear of insanity and a lot of the time (DSOTM) when you are reading it as being about Syd Barrett, it's actually about Roger Waters. I read an interpretation for the Wall as being about Syd, it's almost an autobiography for Waters, father dying in the war, overbearing mother, trouble with his wives? Come on, it's Waters, not Barrett. 2. Looking for drug references where there are none. As the band said themselves, they were not into drugs and were especially not into writing songs about them, that was what Syd did and they saw what it did to him. Pink Floyd writes poetry, not stuff for a bunch of burn outs to sit in their mom's basement and go "maaan, this is great, it's just like getting HIGH" Potheads and druggies will look for drug references in EVERYTHING as a way of validating their meaningless existances. 3. "Roger is better than..." "Dave is better than..." "Syd is better than..." Wrong, "Pink Floyd is better than..." is the proper response, Pink Floyd is greater than the sum of its parts. Although all of their solo efforts are enjoyable, they pale in comparison to any of the actual PF albums. 4.No credit for Rick Wright. Someone here said Dark Side was largely Gilmour. What? It was largely Waters and Wright. Wright composed on all but three, Gilmour only composed on just 4 tracks. 5.A true fan will own Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, More, and a Saucerful of Secrets. All four relatively obscure, all four incredible. That said, Learning to Fly is a love song. Not to a woman, it's the greatest love song ever written addressed to something other than a woman. It's a love song for flight. It shines with emotion and you can feel how much Dave Gilmour loves to fly. He genuinely loves it, it's very powerful. |
Pink Floyd – Jugband Blues Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think Syd Barrett was insane, and I don't think he thought he was either. He had grown tired of everything and was acting strange simply because he felt trapped. This song addresses how people are treating him It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear That I'm not here. This almost seems like he's sick of people telling him he's mad or treating him like he is, or simply diagnosing his problems(as Dave and Roger were known to do later publically, perhaps they did so privately then). And I never knew the moon could be so big And I never knew the room could be so blue And I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes And brought me here instead dressed in red And I'm wondering who could be writing this song. I don't really know this part except the end, I'm wondering who could be writing this song, if he were mad, how could write a song? I don't care if the sun don't shine And I don't care if nothing is mine And I don't care if I'm nervous with you I'll do my loving in the winter. He doesn't care what people think about him, he's going to do his own thing, regardless. And the sea isn't green And I love the queen And what exactly is a dream And what exactly is a joke. Just questioning what normal is basically, what is a dream, and what is a joke? If you think about it, they're both very deep questions. I do not think Roger "Syd" Barrett was insane, I think he knew full well what was going on and was just striving to be different. |
Pink Floyd – Wearing the Inside Out Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is about Roger Waters, plain and simply: From morning to night I stayed out of sight Ditn't recognise I'd become No more than alive I'd barely survive In a word...overrun Look at the Roger Waters dominated years, Rick Wright kept his mouth shut, didn't write, just played his music, he was overrun by Waters. I murmured a vow of silence and now I don't even hear when I think aloud Extinguished by light I turn on the night Wear its darkness with an empty smile Again, he can't write, he can't even express himself. His life was completely controlled by Waters. Look at him now He's paler somehow But he's coming round he's starting to choke It's been so long since he spoke Well he can have the words right from my mouth He, in question, is Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is paler, without Roger Waters, but they are coming back into a groove with their lives, the band itself hasn't been aloud to speak for years, it was all Roger Waters, and Rick Wright is saying that he will speak for the band, i.e., writing songs for it. I'm holding out For the day When all the clouds Have blown away I'm with you now Can speak your name Now we can hear Ourselves again He was waiting for Roger Waters to either leave, or more likely, let everyone else contribute. He was fired by Waters but is back with the band, and the last part, "Now we can hear ourselves again" speaks for itself really, what with Roger Waters not being in the band anymore. |
Pink Floyd – Wearing the Inside Out Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Rick Wright is so underrated, his contributions were as good as Roger's or Dave's easily, but he had so few oppurtunities, I think they really underused him. I look at my list of favorite Pink Floyd songs and most are penned by his hand, and quite a few sung by him. |
Pink Floyd – Summer '68 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Adding to that, she will repeat the cycle as well, or he assumes she will anyway. |
