| Lamb – Gabriel Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To me, this song is about being devoted to someone so deeply, that you can't function without this person. You crave their prescence like day and night. Somehow it always makes me think of my father who passed away ("..he's been there since the very start.."). Even though living without him is technically possible as I'm old enough to stand on my own two feet; at the same time I do need him around. |

| Aqualung – Strange And Beautiful (I'll Put A Spell On You) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Brilliant song. I think all of us have been 'secretly watching someone's world from afar' at some point, and in some cases it can get so deep it's almost obsessive. He's just so desperate for this girl that he'd even put a spell on her. ;-) Great song! |
| Sting – Fields of Gold Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Heaven. Their love is so beautiful, it's like paradise on earth. You should really picture the whole scenery in your head, it's great. | |
| Pete Townshend – Let My Love Open The Door Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think the singer is telling his lover that besides all the worries in life, he will always be there to catch her when she falls, and crawl back up. It's simple but beautiful, kind of a melancholic melody though. |
| Nelly Furtado – Try Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I kind of gotten the same from it as mentioned before - one's struggle to find a way in this world and trying to live up to people's expectations. She realizes that even though all of us perceive the world differently, people aren't exactly who you think they are, so basically we're all wearing masks to the outside world. She is struggling with that. Seems like she's been hurt in the past and feels let down by others, and when she finally seems to have found someone it's hard for her to truly come out of her shell. She's trying hard to be who he wants her to be. "I'm all I'll ever be" - like she's saying that he shouldn't imagine her to be someone out of this world, cause she's really 'just' the girl in front of him. She's afraid he is expecting more from her than she can give, too. In the end she just tells him, in a down-to-earth kind of way, that they're both who's standing in front of each other, nothing more. Now she's far more cautious and aware of the fact that people have expecations, and because of that she is warning him that they can both be who they are. |

| Counting Crows – Colorblind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"Colorblind" is a simply amazing song... I kind of got the impression that it refers to the singer living in his own little world, blocking everything else out; perhaps because he is afraid of opening up to the world. Everything is black/white to him. It's like all the people he comes in contact with will only get to know him on the surface, but never deeper and truly complete. He might've been through something big in life that closed his eyes for the dynamic world, and it's as if he's stuck in that certain moment in the past and can't let go. Now he is ready to, and in the process of 'unfolding' and becoming more comfortable with who he really is, and showing that to the world. At that moment he thinks he's stuck, and has no real purpose in life... but he realizes that it takes changes and chances to get further. He's ready for it now, and fine with the situation. He seems to be screaming for help from someone to help him unfold, because he can't do it entirely on his own. That's kind of the story I'm imagining when I hear this song. And maybe because it's the way I'm feeling at the moment as well... |

| Coldplay – Fix You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Great, great song. On a personal level, I've always seen it like my explanation to my deceased father who I tried to 'fix 'for a long time, without success. ("When you try your best but you don't succeed") And, I don't know... it just speaks to me. Wonderful song! |
| The Rolling Stones – She's A Rainbow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about a woman with many lovely qualities who makes his world a little brighter everywhere she appears. Lovely, happy song that just makes you want to dance around, like The Atomic Punk said! :-) |
| The Goo Goo Dolls – Before It's Too Late Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this is about a guy who is falling for a girl who is very insecure, and has lots of fear in life. She's holding herself back from taking risks and actually being who she really is, and the guy is afraid she's not living life because of it. In general, it's a hopeful song and it is so comforting. I could be the person he's singing about... It's a reminder that life is too short to put up with fear. Just live it with all your heart, don't let anything hold you back. It's over before you know it. |
| James Blunt – Same Mistake Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"And maybe someday we will meet, and maybe talk, and not just speak" James has some great songs; the lyrics are brilliant and his voice adds to that. I think this is about a man who has to find reason to get on with his life and start bettering it, and not just continue to dwell in the past. He is begging for another chance. He sees that what he hates that much is what he became (the enemy part), and he can't see where he went wrong through the mess. Fantastic song, I think all of us can relate to it at some point when everything seems to go wrong. |
| Reamonn – Supergirl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree with romankazimir2003; the lines "she's sewing seeds, she's burning trees" seem to state that she first turns their world around and then leaves them with nothing. She doesn't realize that when you sew seeds a consequence is that a tree grows from that, methaphorically speaking. She's kind of all over the place. It just seems to me that she's young and free-spirited, being the indepent girl who enjoys her freedom and shouldn't get into a relationship because she will never be able to make the commitment it requires. She's a tough one. |
| Annie Lennox – Into the West Lyrics | 18 years ago |
So beautiful, very touching song and I love the symbolic lyrics. Does anyone have a clue what the 'dawn will turn to silver glass' is referring to? That it will be 'frozen', aka the end? |
| Michael Bublé – Everything Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Such a beautiful song... and well, as you can tell, it's about being everything to someone. Have to agree that this is the perfect song to sing to a girl, it's just really sweet without being cheesy! | |
| Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm currently in a kind of tough situation... and I've been having some issues lately.. But there's a guy I've met a few times and he just amazes me. He has a girlfriend but somehow I felt a connection. It's like he has the power to save me when I'm almost drowning... but I can only hope something is going to happen, cause it's a pretty hopeless case I'm afraid. (The roads are winding, the lights are blinding -> meaning there are obstacles along the way that always interfere whenever the singer feels he's getting somewhere) '& I don't believe that anybody, feels the way I do about you now.' Marvellous. |

| John Mayer – Love Song For No One Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Beautiful. In life, you are bound to meet several people that pass you on the sidewalk or sit next to you in the bus, and you feel a connection and dream about what could have been if you would've met at the right place, on the right time. John says it beautifully with his words... I think anyone can relate to this, at some point. We all dream of impossible things sometimes. |
| Bap Kennedy – Moonlight Kiss Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is such a pretty melody... and you can't help but think of the movie 'Serendipity' that did the song justice. I think he broke up with the girl (since I took the cure for happiness') and thought things would get better once they seperated for a while... but now she's happy with someone else and he wishes he could just fall into her arms again. He'd trade his 'happiness' (freedom of the single people) for just a moment back into her arms again. |
| John Mayer – Daughters Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's obviously about parental influence, and how it affects the children's well-being. Parents have a huge task on their shoulders, and it definitely does matter if one has a stable and loving family. You can only hope you have such a lovely dad who is good to his daughter, cause I can't imagine what it's like. I grew up trying to bring my dad to senses, and it's not fun. An unstable home situation sometimes results in girls who try to find their love elsewhere and it can go the wrong way... so I think it's beautiful that John Mayer positively tries to bring that to the attention. It is a big deal. |
| Roxette – Milk And Toast And Honey Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is so relaxing... I just have no clue about its meaning - anyone? | |
| The Police – Every Breath You Take Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Personally, i think the girl broke up with him, and he believes they should still be together. Maybe he's jealous of her new boyfriend too, but either way, he keeps watching her every move 'cause he's somewhat obsessed with her. :-) Brilliant song! | |
| Don Henley – The Boys of Summer Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this song is about the girl he still longs to see, now that his 'wild days' with the guys ('boys of summer') are over. Young guys can be quite reckless and I always picture the lyrics to be about that, how guys chase girls but don't mean to get serious... but the singer now declares that he wanted more than just that fling. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Atlantic City Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Discman, I've kind of gotten the same from this song. I think he's talking about the situation of desperation they're both stuck in, hence the 'everything dies', but he has hope that their time of happiness might come back some day. Now they have to find it in things like the love for eachother, and simpler things (>'fix your hair up pretty'). Brilliant song. There's no other song that makes me realise what kind of world we live in, and it gives a kind of lost and melancholic feel. Listening to it at night adds to that. |

| Bruce Springsteen – Dancing In The Dark Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Does anyone know what "this gun's for hire" refers to? :) Thanks. | |
| Counting Crows – Round Here Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is just so incredibly beautiful. Especially the first verse, even though I can't figure out what lines 4-12 are supposed to mean. "She says It's only in my head She says Shhh I know it's only in my head" ..is my absolute favorite part of the song, it gives me the chills each time I hear it. It's so emotional and reminds me that basically everything is only a state of mind, it's only in your head and you must have the strength to overcome certain things in your life. I also can't seem to figure out the relationship between the singer and the girl he's talking about, as it stays rather unclear to me. I wish I had more clarity. |
| Katie Melua – I Cried for You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is such a beautiful song; it was played at my grandmother's cremation. I thought the lyrics fit perfectly... her voice is so pure and the instruments blend in so well. I think it can be about the loss of a person you love dearly, or a break-up. She realises that this person definitely had an impact on her life, and that she continues to cherish the beauty of the relationship they once had. | |
| Train – Drops of Jupiter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me, this song is about a guy who is talking about a girl who he was very much in love with. She broke up with him, and needed a break to find her real self ("soul vacation"). She's coming across a lot of things, like another guy ("shooting star, one without a permanent scar"). He hopes she's had enough time to explore all these things (did Venus blow your mind, was it everything you wanted to find"), and wonders if it isn't obvious by now that the grass isn't greener elsewhere ("heaven is overrated"). Very uplifting and meaningful song, love the symbolic that's used. :-) A long time favourite, sing-along-song. |
| Seal – Kiss From A Rose Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I personally don't think it's about drugs at all. He compares the girl he's so deeply in love with it; "To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny..." "Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill." I think he's madly in love with a girl who's at distance, he isn't very close to her at that point. He's declaring his love for her and compares her to drugs, because that has high and low effects. A kiss from a rose, IMO, refers to a beautiful girl (rose) but he can't get close to her because the rose stings. |
| Ben Harper – Blessed To Be A Witness Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is pretty self explanatory, though I don't think exclusively religious people will enjoy it. To me it's also about being blessed to be given this life, and to do the best you can. It's such a haunting and beautiful song. |
| Kendall Payne – Scratch Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The tune is so haunting, and she sings it so beautiful! :-) I absolutely love it. I love to sing it along... but I also wondered what the reference to India meant... 'The strangest place, I think I've ever been...' What's starting over from 'scratch'? | |
| Spandau Ballet – Gold Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is great to sing along! :-) I love Spandau Ballet. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Secret Garden Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is incredibly romantic. The tune at the beginning is kind of haunting; it's so pure and it gets me every time. This song can be interpreted in various ways; the prostitute theory as well as the theory about a girl who has this place inside of her she can only enter... those are both reasonable. The power of music is that we can all interpret it differently. |
| Ultravox – Vienna Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| What does "Vienna" refer to? | |
| Prince – Purple Rain Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"I only wanted to one time see you laughing I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain" I think he wanted to show his friend what real love is. I think her marriage with her husband/boyfriend was not the way it's supposed to be, and he wants to show her what it's really about. Then he had sex with her, but didn't want to interrupt her relationship. He just wanted to give her love. |
| Billy Joel – We Didn't Start the Fire Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Wow, this song has so much energy to it, to me it means that we can't change anything about some things, we just have to keep on living. Yeah! | |
| Billy Joel – Vienna Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is such a deep and beautiful song, I can listen to it over and over again. The narrator is talking about a young person who still sees life as an adventure and is rushing out in the world, but doesn't take time to enjoy life to its fullest, while that is really the most essential thing. I think lots of people can relate to it. If you take one step at a time, you will get where you want as well; just don't rush in case you miss out on something. This person hasn't realized that yet. Life is not a destination, it's a journey. |
| Roxy Music – More Than This Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love listening to this song, it gives a both melancholic but comforting feel. To me, it is about accepting situations as they come, and although we keep on dreaming, there is nothing more than this, what we have at the moment, and we should worship that. We can't predict the future, and can't change anything about the past... All we have is nothing more than this... It's a down-to-earth song. Anyway, I love how the instrumental part and lyrics match up, and it's magical to listen to. Most definitely one of my favourite songs. |
| Bruce Springsteen – Secret Garden Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is such a romantic song, and I always wondered what it meant. After I watched the movie "Jerry Maguire", it made more sense, but the prostitute theory could also be correct. It could have multiple meanings, it all depends on your own point of view. That's the beauty of music. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Dancing In The Dark Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is one of my favourite songs, and it basically tells my life like I'm feeling quite often lately. Great, catchy melody as well; probably my favourite Springsteen song. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Streets of Philadelphia Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I thought this was an extremely beautiful song, even before I knew it was referring to a someone's who'd been suffering from HIV. It's such a deep song, and the tune gives me the chills. | |
| Anouk – Girl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
^Nah, I really think it's "get it while it's hot they say"... Anyway, very uplifting song, quite cheery. I like it! =) |
| Moby – Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is such a strong and emotional song, the instruments capture it all. It takes you to another world. | |
| Céline Dion – A New Day Has Come Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this is such a great song, it makes me feel better. =) Celine's voice is angelic, indeed! | |
| Céline Dion – My Heart Will Go On Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this song is absolutely beautiful. There's so much emotion to it, especially with the movie thoughts in my head. I also love the instrumental part. Celine has a beautiful voice. | |
