| Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I've been thinking about this song a lot lately...and it's not going to come out cleanly, so try and stick with me. I don't think the song is about John Wayne Gacy. I think the song is about Sufjan. Sufjan Stevens IS John Wayne Gacy, Jr. "in my best behavior I am really just like him." It's like when father's give their sons their names. He is just a little version of John Wayne (this sticks well with the "equal sins theory"). However, I think this song is less about equal sins and more about our lack of right to judge. "I am really just like him." That would make Sufjan a hypocrite to judge him. Hopefully that made sense. I think this is one of my all time favorite Sufjan Stevens songs. It's beautiful and has so many meanings you can pull from it. |

| Relient K – Register Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| FoodLoverIsMe, this is from their first CD, their real first CD, All Work and No Play. It's really hard to get a copy. I think Albumbase.com has it, but I don't know about the legality of the thing. So yeah. That's where it's from. | |
| Relient K – Faking My Own Suicide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's based on an old movie called Harold and Maude. At least, that's what it says in their bio/album summary on the site. | |
| Relient K – I'm Taking You With Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I'm not so sure that this is about a girl. Doesn't, "I'm taking you with me" seem a little bit off to say to a girl. A lot of people get mad when they hear this, but I think this song may be about God. "If home is wehre the heart is, then my home is where you are." That could just as easily be about Christ as about a girl. The line "I'm literally dying without you here" cinches it too. Songs are up for interpreation, and RK does write songs about girls, I'm just not sure that this one is about a girl. |

My life is a cup of sugar I borrowed before time began and forgot to return mewithoutYou is pure genius. That is probably one of the best analogies for life I've ever heard. |

| Showbread – The Jesus Lizard Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
(This is what I remember Josh posting on their site) The basilisk is commonly referred to as the Jesus lizard because it will randomly sprint across water. So the poem is about how the Jesus lizard tries to be like Jesus but fails...much like we do. I haven't heard all of the new album yet, but what I have heard is amazing. And so is this track. |

| Showbread – Stabbing Art To Death Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I agree with all of the above. The song is about how God gave us music as a gift with which we honor and praise him. We ran with it and made it into something else, we are killing it. Art is not the world; art is in our hearts. Great words. I almost had that engraved on my iPod. I think this song is Josh Dies at his finest. When I first listened to the album I heard this and was like...This song is epic...and then when I read the lyrics to understand everything I didn't catch on the first run I was awe struck. To me it also seems that Josh thinks that screamo/raw rock is the last hurrah in terms of music. "we sing good bye in screams and screeches, and bury these knives in your heart". So good bye comes in the form of screamo as we put the knives in the heart of art and thus end it. Overall this song is amazing. Simply amazing. I can't wait for Age of Reptiles. God Bless |

| Showbread – The Dissonance of Discontent Lyrics | 19 years ago |

That is my favorite part of this song as well. I think this song is just about how music is coming to a close. It's not what it once was. Also, we killed music. This song goes along well with Stabbing Art to Death |

| Emery – In A Win, Win Situation Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think this is about Toby's personal life and being on the road away from his wife all the time. It's called a win win situation because if she can't sleep alone and cheats on him he's away and it's better, but if she stays faithful he knows that she's right and he wins because he found the right girl. |

| Showbread – Matthias Replaces Judas Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I love to worship to this song. It is my favorite showbread song. I actually took my screenname here from it (if you can't tell). Matthias was the one chosen to replace Judas as an apostle after Judas committed suicide in the field. I'd love to go over all of the symbolism in this song, but I don't think I can. I'll share a few of my favorites though. " i lay in this field by Judas' bowels and anticipate the plow" Judas killed himself in the field of blood and his body stayed there. This line says "I've betrayed Christ, I am now awaiting judgement (the plow) like Judas. "sun has scorched the rising plants alas they have no root" This symbolism, as long as you know the parable. This is the parable of the seeds ( Matthew 13:3-8). "for those more lovely and admirable is least among the saved" This one isn't so much symbolism but the words of Christ. It will be harder for a rich man to enter the kingdomof heaven matthew 19:24 and matthew 19:30. "Jesus my heart is all i have to give to you, so weak and so unworthy, this simply will not do, no alabaster jar, no diamond in the rough, for your body that was broken, how can this be enough?" This one is pretty straightforward. I'm nothing special, yet you died for me. How exactly is something as poor and weak as my heart good enough reason for your death? |

| Emery – Listening To Freddy Mercury Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This one seems to be pretty straight forward when you get to the end. "We are all the same people. With sinning hearts that make us equal". After everything of this world is stripped away, social status, friends, clothes, etc we are all the same. We all face the same judgement in the end. This point is emphasized in the part about all the kids. Drinking, stealing, lying, cheating, gossip, sexual impurity, illegal activity, gambling and the last part...no longer praying. All of these things are viewed upon in different degrees in the public eye, but in the end cheating and lying are the same as no longer talking with God. I love this song. |

| Emery – Studying Politics Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
My guess is that this song is about a girl cheating on him, repeatedly, and him finally standing up. Allow me to explain. "A mark beneath your the, I've caught you once again"--A mark beneath the chin is most likely a hickey. I've caught you once again is obvious. This isn't the first time it's happened. "there's that smile again (there's that smile again), you fake it and I follow you right in"--she pretends it's all okay and that she's sorry and tries to make nice. This ties in nicely with the theory of her cheating multiple times, he believes in second chances. Now for the part where he stands up to her and puts his foot down. 'Your words always cut when they're cliché But here’s my knife because I came for the buffet"--Words cut, knives cut. Here's my knife (this is what I say). This is where it may get a little tricky. I came for the buffet. First off, buffets can be (and for this example are) all you can eat (long time). To me this says : I'm sick of it, your words have hurt. Now it's my turn to talk (that was the knives). This isn't going to be a short talk, there's a lot to be said, I'm ending it now (the buffet). |
