Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World Lyrics 18 years ago
According to Curt Smith:

"...the concept is quite serious - it's about everybody wanting power, about warfare and the misery it causes."

Tears for Fears – Woman In Chains Lyrics 18 years ago
Roland Orzabal has said of this song:

"The song is an anthem for the women's movement, if a man can write such a thing...

But the song is also about how men traditionally play down the feminine side of their characters and how both men and women suffer for it. I think that a lot of the spiritual side of men and man's soul are seen as feminine qualities. I think it's sad cos we miss out."

Tears for Fears – Sowing the Seeds of Love Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a very political song.

butterflykiss84 was right on about the Jam/Style Council reference. Roland and Curt have said that's what it was about.

"Politician Granny" is a reference to Margaret Thatcher, who was the PM in the UK at the time the song was written. The boys weren't very big fans of hers. :)

And in general yeah, I think it's a song about people needing to get involved. Wake up and smell what your government is doing in your name. So many people just blindly follow without even really knowing what the implications are. They should educate themselves - there are a ton of resources out there - read them in the books in the crannies and the nooks. :)

Tears for Fears – Call Me Mellow Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah, a lot of those lines are wrong. I have the CD with the official lyrics. Here are some changes:

"Wishful in ashes slightly bedraggled"
should be "Wistful and ashen, slightly bedraggled"

"Roaming the forest, leap pine and rabbits"
should be "Roaming the forest, lupine and rabid"

"To find the chosen roles reversed"
should be "To find our chosen roles reversed"

"If only I was half-mage and she was older"
should be "If only I was half my age and she was older"

"Does she go on the Elide?"
should be "Does she go all dewey-eyed"

Talking Heads – (Nothing But) Flowers Lyrics 18 years ago
I always took this a little bit tongue-in-cheek. I can't find anything that David Byrne says about it, so maybe I am wrong.

Talking Heads – And She Was Lyrics 18 years ago
Well, is this hard enough for you? :) It's from David Byrne's website (http://www.davidbyrne.com/music/cds/grown_backwards/grown_press/RaveMag.php)

From the article, which is essentially a concert review: "Byrne tells us the story behind "And She Was" (a recollection of a girl from his high school who apparently used to go hang out near the local chocolate milk factory and drop acid)."

I also read (years ago) an article where he described the girl as a "tripped out hippie chick."
