The Goo Goo Dolls – Better Days Lyrics 18 years ago
My comment didnt fully explain the teaching, and i think it made it seem almost negative, which is the opposite of what it was supposed to mean. I wont go into many details, but I meant that if everyone in the world was bad, like in the time of Noah, then G-d would make the word stop, like with a flood. but if everyone was bad except one child, who was good, G-d would let us live for the sake of the child. My comment made it seem like you have to be a Jew asking for forgiveness form G-d to be good, which isn't true. In the Jewish faith, As long as you're a good person regardless of religion, you'll have a good afterlife. but if your religion happens to be Judaism, then you're required to follow some custom of asking forgiveness from G-d, even if its just saying "G-d, please forgive me" silently in your head that night, and even though that particular scenario is not the best, you're still agood person.

Topaincayupanqui, I cannot believe how wrong you are. It is not about Jesus, It's about Judaism. They're writing a song about it like the Bare Naked Ladies did.

The part about what you want this year is about Chanukah, and as some know its an adopted custom to give presents on Chanukah, Only in America and Europe so the kids don't feel left out. He is relating to not wanting anything for Chanukah, nothing tied in string, nothing designer, only a chance that Israel will get a chance to see better days. (Israel is being pounded by suicide bombs, though less nowadays. Also, they do not give presents on Chanukah in Israel.) Also, he needs somewhere simple to live (Israel again) because Israel is a place that many faiths find holy and he wants peace there, hence the line “I need some place simple where we could live…faith and trust and peace”. In addition, he wants to “stop the endless fight” in the Middle East, which seems impossible, as he also says. I will admit that this part is very disputable.

Now for the chorus.

The chorus is about the ten days between the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is a happy day, where everyone goes to synagogue and “sings out loud”. Also, on those ten days, we Jews ask G-d for forgiveness for everything we’ve done that year, hence “ 'Cause everyone is forgiven now”.

Lastly, the remainder of the song. There’s a famous teaching from the Talmud (The Talmud is a book of Jewish teachings) that says that on Yom Kippur, if every Jew hasn’t asked for forgiveness, that G-d can stop the world from turning and let us die, like he did in the flood in Noah’s time. But as long as there is one child who is good, G-d will let the world continue and start again, which explains the “tonight's the night the world begins again” line and the verse “And the one poor child who saved this world”.

That child could not have been Jesus, think about it. It says “And there's ten million more who probably could”. According to the Christian faith, there is only one son of god. How could there possibly be ten million? I know how. It doesn’t refer to Jesus. It refers to the one child who is needed to keep the world turning another year, but there could be ten million of them, it doesn’t matter, as long as there’s at least one. Also, we should “give them a prayer” and pray that there always is that one child.

System of a Down – Nuguns Lyrics 18 years ago
Does anyone know what the word Nuguns mean in armeanian? it might prove someone's point about the meaning of the song. But it might just be that they messed with the spelling of 'new guns', and put those two dots overe the first 'u' to make it look good.

U2 – The Hands That Built America Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is most definetly about moving from ireland. I'm not Irish, but I do know that "halle" is the irish word for "holy" and Bono says them both in the song. Also, I encourage everyone to wach the music video, it proves that its about moving from Ireland.
