| Loudon Wainwright III – Swimming Song Lyrics | 5 years ago |
|
I think it’s great that this song is about all of the above posts. To a child this song is about swimming. It’s obvious. To someone thinking about relationships or alcoholism, it’s about those things. What’s really great is that the song is so good at being about all those things, and it sounds so simple. I don’t think he sat down and wrote a song about any single one of those things. But I think all of those things were in his mind and produced the song somehow. |

Life is a long run. Some people in My family run Marathons sometimes. If you run one, Kids shout your name from the sideline, if you put your name on your shirt. People cheer you on no matter who you are. My mother was running the Boston marathon the year the bomb exploded. We probably remember Those shredded legs. Growing up you hit your stride somewhere. Something about marriage in there. Being caught in a spider web or wedding dress. But things change. and it seems like there are no choices. You can't control a thing. or can you. I like how the song changes tempo. starts out reflective, maybe. but then it's all present, here, and not going away for you. I don't know what this song is about. |

| I think Chris Otepka took a time machine to early 2009 and watched the current debate on healthcare in the US, wrote this ong, went back to 1994 or whenever, and released it. | |

to add to or further develop thriggle's comments... I had similar ideas about the immigration and seeing his ancestors as a swarm of life taking over land. I think you could be even more macroscopic and apply it to the planet instead of just America. Are we not parasites living off the planet? Spreading out like a slow moving swarm throughout history. I think the way the song is divided is interesting too. The first section introducing the swarm gives way to a more personal story. This is the story of one of the members of the swarm. I agree that the song is about individual change. As each member of the swarm does before him, he grows into a man, no longer fetal, and in a sense this new stronger thing destroys the old larval form. "As he orders my eviction" or something like that. |

I think most people are "harmless sociopaths" in that we are all crazy and absurd and frustrated if we let ourselves admit it. But we don't. We 'grow up' and learn to behave ourselves instead. I like thinking this. @ montare Thanks for the NYTimeslink! |

| Eef Barzelay – Collapse Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I saw Clem Snide play this a few months ago. Before starting the song, he was talking about the state of the world and the economy and all. Eef shouted something to the effect of "CLEM SNIDE WAS RIGHT!!!" and talked about a favorite blog that talked about the collapsing enconomy. Since then I've seen this as a song about the downfall of civilization. The world as we know it collapsing around us, and what happens next? | |
| Eef Barzelay – Ballad of Bitter Honey Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think wrat is right. this is a song written from the pov of a dancer in a hip hop video. I love how he gives her so much credit as being a human just like anyone. It's interesting because he is writing abotu a character in a completely different cultural circle than the one Eef lives in. I think it's very well done. | |
| Lou Reed – Perfect Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I just got back from a day together with a girl who I've been dating for almost two months. Here's the thing: We've almost broken up twice, and I think we both know that our relationship is not going to last. This song just popped into my head and almost made me cry. We had a perfect day together, but now, after parting ways for the night, I realize that I'm "going to reap just what you sow". It felt so nice, but we will breakup someday, and this perfect day just makes that reality all the more bitter and depressing... Thats what I think the song is about. |
