this is how i interpret the song....a guy in a relationship, hurt in the past by love and life (guys hurt too) and very cautious. He likes this girl very much, still lots to know and possibly love about her but he has his own self doubts about letting go of his past hang ups and allowing her in completely. "you step a little closer each day and I can't say what's going on" i take that as meaning he allows her to get closer then poo's himself at the thought of getting too close in case he gets hurt again and he doesn't know how to handle it. "stones taught me to fly love, it taught me to lie life, it taught me to die so it's not hard to fall when you float like a cannonball" I understand the chorus as being him saying his past has made him toughen up, put barriers up, his guard is up & thats why he is this way, self preservation i guess. He's intrigued by her, his heart wants to know more but his head stops him. He know's he's capable of letting her in & loving her but doesn't know how to go about it, this is where the end comes in "so come on courage teach me to be shy, cause it's not hard to fall and i dont want to scare her, it's not hard to fall and I dont want to lose, it's not hard to grow when you know that you just..dont know ". He just doesn't know what to do, he know's he doesn't want to lose her but he also know's he doesn't want to get hurt again too! |
