| Buffalo Springfield – Broken Arrow Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Quite possibly the most beautiful song I have ever heard, truly a classic, seemingly forgotten in a haze of pop hits. Neil Young on his own is amazing, but as Buffalo Springfield, the music is just...impossible to describe. You need to hear them to understand what I mean, only then could you see what i am talking about. | |

Such an awesome song, I love it. I agree a little bit with everyone here, but I think ill put in what it seems to mean to me Cats foot iron claw, as in not only replacing organic/natural things with machines that cant come close to really duplicating the grace of say a cats foot, but also perhaps a metaphor in the iron claw, kinda like an iron fist? Neuro-surgeons scream for more, as in everyone will be screwed up in the future, or perhaps neuro surgeons represent us screwing with ourselves and our minds, maybe some sort of cyborg thing here Paranoia’s poison door; pretty simple, everyones afraid of everything and everyone else, and its this the door to this fear that were entering that will poison us Blood rack, barbed wire, not sure exactly what a blood “rack” is, but it seems like a reference to war or violence, or barbed wire as in we’re all being caged or fenced in or maybe oppressed Politicians funeral pyre; could mean a lot of things, probably the death of peaceful politicians and the arrival of tyrants, or possibly it could be saying that the politicians are causing this funeral pyre, im not sure. Death seed, blind mans greed, the seed of death is planted by people motivated by money and greed. It’s a blind man because money is their only focus and they are blind to everything else. Poets starving, children bleed, I think poets shouldn’t be taken literally, instead maybe they just represent the arts in general, poetry, music, paintings, etc. and theyre starving because no one cares about the arts anymore so they have no money for food, or maybe the arts are starving because theres no more creativity to feed them. As for children bleed, it could mean that the children are the new creative sources but their lifeblood is drained away by this grey 21st century world, or it could just mean that no one cares about kids anymore, and theyre dying, maybe also talking about wars fought with young people. Nothing hes got he really needs; pretty self explanatory, weve got everything; fun, recreation, everything…except what we need to survive, like the arts or maybe just food and water, etc. As for the 21st century schizoid man, well its talkind about the century weve just started, and I suppose the “common man” that will emerge in this new era. Schizoid, from the dictionary; “Of, relating to, or having a personality disorder marked by extreme shyness, flat affect, reclusiveness, discomfort with others, and an inability to form close relationships.” So basically the common man of the 21st century, our present and the very imminent future; the loner who has no social skills and doesn’t feel the connections that are the extremely important part of life. Its very eerie especially considering internet and things like instant messaging and email and internet mail order of pretty much anything, which completely eliminates human contact, so that people feel more comfortable alone with a computer than with another actual person. Simply amazing, and disturbingly accurate. |

| Roger Waters – Perfect Sense, Part I Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think the nuclear sub in search of the garden of eden means that within a nuclear submarine, there contains the power to destroy modern civilization, and thus bring us back to the primitive days of the garden of eden. Going in search of the garden of eden in this case means to search for the end of civilization. It reminds me of an einstein quote, something about how he doesn't know what weapons world war 3 will be fought with, but world war 4 will be fought with sticks and stones. | |
| The Moody Blues – The Actor Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It sounds to me like it's about living our life as a facade compared to what lies beneath; acting your life, pretending things that aren't true. It also sounds like being alone in your feelings, and not being able to express them to someone who is so important to you: "The sounds just drift across my room, I wish this feeling I could share" "The sound I have heard in your hello, Oh darling, you're all I'll ever see. Oh darling, you're almost part of me." And on a completely unrelated topic: "Put out your problems with the cat" That is one of the best lines I have ever read/heard, I love it! |

| The Moody Blues – Candle Of Life Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think this one's pretty straightforward, really well done, but I think it's pretty clear; Realize that eventually the candle of your life will be exstinguished, so enjoy what you have, and love, learn how to love. Is it just me, or are there way too few comments on these Moody Blues songs? It's such an amazing band, but only one in ten of their songs has even one comment...it's sad. |

| The Moody Blues – Eyes Of A Child, Part 1 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
To me this song's about viewing the world through the eyes of a child, as a life filled with hope and eternal love. It's about appreciating how everything is so beautiful underneath all the barriers of reality: Earth falls far away, New life awaits. Time it has no day, New life awaits. Here is your dream And now how does it feel? No words will go with you, And now what is real? In the absence of everything, what is left? Love and hope. The same love and hope seen through the eyes of a child before they grow up, before their vision becomes callous and jaded and they lose sight of the marvel that is their life. |

| Pink Floyd – Eclipse Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Wow, this turned out longer than I thought it would…This idea just struck me, and it seemed to work…so sorry, and this is my last giant post: Im starting to think that this entire album could also just be someones life, from Breathe, where they are born, and “aren’t afraid to care”, to On the Run as a teenager, running from the law maybe…and then Time as someone in their 20’s realizing that their entire childhood is gone and already life has begun to pass them by. Their lofty goals, “to catch up with the sun,” have been impossible to fulfill, and their goals are the same in a relative way, and all that they’ve accomplished is getting older. Great Gig could be the fear that they’ll die too soon to leave a mark, to do something with their life. Money could be when they’ve grown up some more and entered the business world, maybe something with a mid-life crisis, in regards to the new car, caviar, etc. Us and Them is them aging and becoming filled with prejudice and hatred. Any Colour perhaps the transition from being old to being senile, which is shown complete in the name Brain Damage, and finally Eclipse is them on their deathbed, realizing that their entire life is over…and nothing really actually happened. Everything they’ve done doesn’t matter anymore because their life, the sun, has been eclipsed and blocked out by the moon, death, as it will happen for everyone. Oh, and as for the whole dark side of the moon, I have no idea what it means. Maybe its just that this album is called the dark side of the moon because it is a description of what the dark side is (the dark side being the dark side of us, and we are the moon), and while we abhor and hide this side of ourselves, and pretend its not there, the final comment that “its all dark” means that this is dark side isn’t part of us, but that it IS us. This would mean that its just an album about us. Everything under the sun (in nature?) is in tune, until we eclipse it. Also, Im pretty sure when they were interviewing the people who talk on this album they had certain questions, so im guessing that they might have had certain answers in mind. I think the question they asked the “matter of fact its all dark” guy (cant remember name, sorry), was “Is there a dark side of the moon?” There are only so many ways that you can answer that question, and they asked quite a lot of people…hmm… |

Sorry everyone, this is probably gonna be real long, but I really feel that I need to say this stuff Let me start off by saying that this entire album is pure genius, a work of art. Its themes, linked together so poetically, (Breathe: trying to appreciate deeper meanings in everyday life. On the Run: fear and paranoia. Time: losing touch with your true dreams and instead working away your life while waiting for it to start. Great Gig: the fear of dying, especially, as it happens right after Time, dying too early without being able to do what you wanted with your life. Money: greed; almost seeming to be the greatest opposition to Breathe, and also linked with Time; wasting money and time on superficial and material things. Us and Them: The continuation of greed, leading to war, prejudice, and violent human nature, very obvious in the line: “With, Without, and who denies its what the fightings all about.” Any Colour: Im not sure if this really has any meaning, but it seems necessary somehow. Brain Damage: This has various possibilities, but it seems to be insanity, perhaps being caused by all the previous problems in the other songs. Or maybe the insanity is caused by being ‘normal,’ because there is no such thing and the only people who are truly insane are the ones who are ‘normal.’ Yet we look upon others who DON’T fit this mold as being weird or crazy, and we lock them up and “throw away the key” And of course, theres Eclipse) are so universal, yet so mystifying, that, even more than 30 years after the albums debut, we’re still debating on its true meaning. There’s no real, right answer as to what this album is. And then this song, eclipse, the roaring conclusion to this incredible work, just brings out the life in everything for me every time I hear it. There are so many different ways to interpret this song, and I don’t really have a set one that I generally think of it as. Other than being an incredible ending to an incredible album, it concludes, repeats, and reinforces the real message throughout the album, which is the search for meaning in a life that has none, and trying to find time to enjoy your life without being dragged down by what it considered the ‘normal’, or ‘successful’ way to live life, which just leads to insanity and disappointment. As for the last lines, the sun could be our incredible potential as a race or as individuals, but the bleak, small, dead face of the moon, representing the vices of human nature (described in the other songs throughout the album) and our petty and small differences between each other, eclipses our hope of reaching this potential. The sun and the moon are such perfect metaphors. They are known by everyone, seen around the world, and are so very much entwined with our life. They have different meanings for all of us, and im sure that there are pages and pages of possibilities as to what exactly the moon, the sun, and the eclipse mean, and im sure all of them are equally valid, but that is exactly why DsoM is so popular, (724 consecutive weeks on the US charts I think) because the true meaning of it is different for every person. The entire song seems to just be telling you that everything (all you touch, see, taste, feel, etc. Also, in Breathe: “all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be,” those are the first two lines in eclipse, which means that the isn’t just talking about things, but about people and their lives too, which are placed before everything else, giving them more importance than everything else), EVERYTHING under the sun is in tune, that everything, whatever it is, is perfect. But the sun is eclipsed by the moon. That’s what the real question is. What is the moon? Human nature? Unhappiness? Death? Vice? Or maybe its just us? |
