Local H – How's The Weather Down There? Lyrics 18 years ago
Anyone notice Scott Lucas gets funnier the more pissed he gets? Anyway I love this one, even though I'm a girl the feelings are universal =). Its insanely catchy too and rocks hard!

Shakira – Dia Especial Lyrics 18 years ago
It was initially an underdog on a great album for me, but it grew on me and grew and grew.... and now I think its the best song on it! The lyrics sound beautiful even if i don't understand a word and the melody is understated but charming. I also like the English version, which surprised me!

Shakira – Moscas en la Casa (English Translation) Lyrics 18 years ago
Thanks so much for translating this!!! it's one of my favourite shakira songs... even though i don't speak a word of Spanish! It sounds very poetic and wistful, just like a lot of her songs.

Antony and the Johnsons – Fistful of Love Lyrics 18 years ago
This is such an amazing song. Everything about it is perfect, I can't see how no one else I know gets it! =). Everything from the simple yet tragic lyrics, the brilliant steel guitar and sax jam, Antony's wonderful singing... wow. Antony should do this kinda jam more often!

The Goo Goo Dolls – Hate This Place Lyrics 18 years ago
I've loved this song off that record since I got it the first day it came out! I've spent many a night wallowing in depression listening to this. I suppose that didn't sound too good - the song always made me feel better though! I love the guitar at the end, and Johnny's vocals of course. It seems that even though he hates the lies, he realises he himself is living one and he doesn't want to stop... and that's true of many relationships.

Van Hunt – What Can I Say? Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the lyrics for this, it's such a dreamy, melancholic song. I especially like the line "Somewhere along the way I lost the melody..."

Van Hunt's whispery voice suits this song perfectly.

Buffalo Tom – Wiser Lyrics 19 years ago
Another song where half the words don't make too much sense but just sounds so beautiful (and the melody speaks volumes) that it's brilliant. Apparently it was the most tinkered of songs on Smitten and you can tell because it exudes greatness especially when he sings "You're the wiser one".... for some reason this revelation makes me think he is the wiser one.

Buffalo Tom – Postcard Lyrics 19 years ago
Beautiful amazing song. BT make regret sound so beautiful! I can't believe those guys never made it big, songs like these should be all over the radio... that is in a perfect world.

Buffalo Tom – Mineral Lyrics 19 years ago
BT are so good at regretful reminiscence and this song is up there with the best of them. The "You're so green" part is a bit wierd... I haven't thought about too much but calling someone green usually means either a) they're naive or b) they're jealous. I'm not sure if either fits the context of this song. And calling the "Mineral"... either way, it's a few things to think about!

Buffalo Tom – Taillights Fade Lyrics 19 years ago
It's a beautiful song, one of the most sincere tales of regret I've ever heard! I love that line too... "Had myself a wonderful thing/But I could not make it last".... don't we all....

Björk – Hyperballad Lyrics 19 years ago
I've only heard the Twilight Singers' cover of this song - which Bjork apparently approved of - and I can relate to it pretty well. I'm in a very comfortable relationship and sometimes I feel the need to do something destructive and horrible just to "get it out of my system", like throwing stuff off a cliff. It's very cathartic, I'm sure! I've never heard these feelings voiced in such a way in a song, so I might have to make an effort to get to know Bjork!

Hanson – Underneath Lyrics 19 years ago
"The fear of losing you beneath my skin" is one of the most beautiful lines I've ever heard. I also didn't like this song so much until I saw them perform it on the DVD, and the performance was absolutely haunting and totally got under my skin!

I always interpreted it as two people at the tail end of a relationship, suffocated by it and yet unwilling to let go.

Afghan Whigs – Faded Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is absolutely stunning! It's not just a Whigs' classic... it should be a classic fullstop! It's the most uplifting song of redemption I've ever heard. It's obvious he's been through some very tough times. Whenever I'm going through tough times, I listen to this. The perfect end to a perfect album about going down... then back up again. The song is so good, it doesn't feel like 8 minutes....

Afghan Whigs – Be Sweet Lyrics 19 years ago
Although I've never dated a guy like this, the song gives me some insight into guys in general! Great guitar bit near the beginning, one of my favourite songs off "Gentlemen". I think I know a guy like this actually...

Afghan Whigs – My Enemy Lyrics 19 years ago
The best song of vengeance ever. The guy's so pissed, I especially love when he screams You want the dog?/I'll let him out/Come get some baby. But then in the end he sounds almost ashamed, like he'd done all he could to avoid whatever was happening and had failed.

This song - and this album - picks me up whenever I'm really really pissed off or sinking into depression. Probably a rather odd song, but very cathartic!

Afghan Whigs – 66 Lyrics 19 years ago
I love this song too! It's the most accessible out of the Whigs' entire catalogue I think, I could almost imagine it being played on commercial radio... almost. It's the sleaziest, sexiest song ever =). Dulli must've been really horny...

I love the Whigs, though I hadn't heard of them until 1999 (hey, I'm in Australia). I'm so insanely jealous of anyone that's seen them live! Greg Dulli is in a class of his own, I worship the man.

Give the Twilight Singers a go - I love them just the same, but they aren't the Whigs.

Afghan Whigs – Citi Soleil Lyrics 19 years ago
Hm, I guess no one's had a go at this one. This is probably one of the most original songs I've ever heard! It's one of my favourites off the criminally underrated '1965' album. I think it's about the loss of innocence and/or the descent into depression, then coming out the other side in one piece. I think it's a self-help song. Whatever the meaning, it's great and uplifting... much like "Faded".
