i like the version with bowie a bit better because the guitars are slightly more distorted in that one, giving the song a bit more bite and resonance. |

| Tupac Shakur – Starin' Through My Rearview (feat. Outlawz) Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
"Real niggaz do they wanna do, bitch niggaz do what they can't"
This part should be 'can.' It's a paraphrasing of Thucydides' observation that 'the strong do as they will; the weak do as they must'. He says this within the context of Ancient Greek power politics, particularly between Athens, Sparta and the smaller, weaker Greek republics. |

just a great, chill song. very aphex twin/boards of canada. i stand by my opinion that the Sleeping W/ Ghosts phase was Placebo at their most creative since WYIN. |

i love the way the last blast of feedback fades out, like the power was just suddenly cut from their massive amplifiers. Beautiful noise. |

the puking noises really kill it for me. It would have been an absolutely brilliant song otherwise. |

Thanks to Heliopath for putting this up. This is one of the finest post-shoegaze albums to be released. Pure bliss. |

scary, scary shit. That has got to be the most harrowing ten minutes in music, as well as the most under-noticed anti-war message ever. |

I think paphan and misschichi are on the right track, though I agree with bits of what the others have said also (except for the dude who thinks it's actually about Jesus, rofl)..the 'personal Jesus' really can be anyone on the other receiver, whether a friend, a phone sex service, a suicide hotline. |

you really can't argue with a chorus like 'sunshine in the morning' ^_^ |

| Ash – Angel Interceptor Lyrics

Can't understand how this was overlooked in favor of Girl from Mars. Definitely a superior song. I wish they'd play it more often during their live shows. The solo in the song is just mind-blowing, as well as being happy happy HAPPY! |

An incredible song, and probably my fave Ash song ever. Too bad it only appeared on the Life Less Ordinary OST and the undeservingly unsuccessful Nu-Clear Sounds. |

| Catherine Wheel – The Nude Lyrics

Amazing song. it's about the singer's heart breaking as he sees perfection in a nude painting, and realizes that he could never live up to, or be worthy of that kind of flawlessness. |

Harsh stuff. One of my fave curve tracks, and probably the one that got everyone tagging them as shoegaze because of the screechy guitars. |

| Catherine Wheel – Black Metallic Lyrics

This song is my favorite CW song. The mid-song solo is just out of this world. The song's actually about a car, but I'm pretty sure most of us just ignore that little point. |

This is possibly the darkest song on Doppelganger. I listened to it repeatedly on a rather depressing 18th birthday, baked out of my skull. Fantastic stuff. |

I really love this song. i haven't heard it in about 2.5 yrs, around the same time as when you guys wrote in, though I loved the Doppelganger album. I'm listening to it right now and the memories are flooding back. |

| Massive Attack – Be Thankful For What You've Got Lyrics
| 20 years ago

|
I'm pretty sure it's an ironic statement about black poverty in urban areas. No, i didn't think of it first, i read it somewhere. It is a cover of a Curtis Mayfield song, so it's not a big surprise or anything that the song might have a political meaning. |

yes, it's definitely a reference to heroin. That aside, what's the very first word Brett says in the song? it souds like 'Shika' or something? Any ideas? |

It came out when I was 12. I loved the mellow feel of the song, the lyrics of which were totally celebratory. Off to college this fall, so we'll see if I get to live that sort of life! |

Hmm, you're probably right. Never thought of the song that way. I thought it was two brothers deciding to kill themselves together. :P |

it's shocking how little this song has aged. The guitars here are absolutely incredible. Lyrically simplistic, but the sonics conjure a visual imagery that's difficult to describe in song lyrics. |

| Suede – Stay Together Lyrics

hmm, how come noone's mentioned the suicide part of the song? was it that obvious to everyone? (ashamed) I wasn't aware of that part until i got my hands on the lyrics and noticed the 'As we tumble through the sky' part and the 'We can stay a while in heaven today'.
It seems to me then, that the song's about two lovers (possibly drug users) who plan to die together by jumping off a high rise. This is why I love suede. |
