The Doors – Ship Of Fools Lyrics 19 years ago
Katherine Anne Porter wrote a book called "Ship Of Fools" in 1962. It was based upon the german book "Das Narrenschiff" by 15th century writer Sebastian Brant. It tells the story of a passanger ship on it's way from Mexico to Germany and how life on board a sailing ship can be compared to life on our planet. This song was written around the time when people could see the first photos from the Apollo space missions and some concluded that earth was like a wessel floating in space.

The Doors – Cars Hiss By My Window Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is terribly underrated. It has a great John Lee Hooker feel to it. Morrison's vocal "guitar solo" is just amazing. The lyrics were written around 1965-66. Not sure if it's supposed to be "Cold girl'll kill you" or "Cold girl I'll kill you" at the end. Either way its wicked.

The Doors – Been Down So Long Lyrics 19 years ago
Richard Farina's book "Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up To Me" (1966) inspired Jim Morrison's lyrics. It's about a young hippie-type college student who is obsessed with sex and drugs.

The Doors – Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) Lyrics 19 years ago
Amazing and original. It's The Doors!

This is The Doors' version of a song written by Berthold Brecht and Kurt Weill for the operetta Rise And Fall of The City of Mahagonny (1930). The composition criticized capitalist society and many saw it as communist propaganda. Some think The Doors compared 1930's Germany to the 1960's America with this song.
