Pretty sure instead of "richback" it's Ridgeback. A Rhodesian Ridgeback is a breed of dog and as he is talking about the "soul of a dog"... I'm guessing that's the breed of dog that owns the soul :) Anyway. Great song. I love the imagery. |

I don't know a lot about Bob Dylan so I don't know when he wrote this but I can see it as a tribute to Jeff Buckley as he drowned in a river "I gazed down in the river's mirror...". Of course the time he wrote this would determine whether this is true or not. This is my second favourite song of Dylan anyway. Tribute or no tribute. I think it could be about leaving a mark on the world when it comes your time to die. |

I was listening to an inteview with her on Triple J and she was saying that once when she was playing some woman (she said that she was a bitch and she had some authority of her - i've forgotten) told the orchestra to stop playing, went right up to her and said that she couldn't sing. I think it's about Elliott's step father abusing him and nobody believing him. He maybe tried to drown it out with alcohol and drugs. "for waking up in an unknown place with a recollection you've half erased looking for somebody's arms to wave away past harms" I get the feeling that this was a reference to his stint in a mental institution. Again, nobody believed him about getting abused. They said that they were "trying to help". As you can see from the song 'Everybody cares, everybody understands' Elliott obviously didn't think that they helped at all. |

Awesome song. I love listening to this when i'm in a good mood. You just feel like dancing and screaming O YEAH!!!? when the chorus comes. I think it's about a girl who is gorgeous looking but it's got to her head and she knows that she's gorgeous. The guy falls for the girl but then when they start talking and he gets to know her a little better he realises that she's not that great. He knows he can do better when i used to think that she was the almighty one. |

I think it is about him visiting a friend who is in a mental home. "I'll wear my badge: a vinyl sticker with big block letters adherent to my chest that tells your new friends I am a visitor here" The badge obviously says that he is just a visitor. The new friends are the people that the friend has met at the place. "you seem so out of context in this gaudy apartment complex a stranger with your door key explaining that I am just visiting " The room that she is in is not nice. I can just picture a small room with blank grey walls. The stranger is a nurse or someone that takes care of the friend telling the friend that she/he has a visitor. "the district sleeps alone tonight after the bars turn out their lights" The friend in the institute sleeps alone in their room when the nurses or whatever they are turn out the lights. That bit is pretty straight forward. Love the song. I chose to ignore it for a while and then i heard it in the movie D.E.B.S (awful movie, waste of my time) and i recognised it. It's a cover for the movie but. Awesome song. I bow down to Postal Service's greatness once again. |

Correct me if the lyrics are wrong. I think this song is alot about the feeling of lust being mixed up with love. The two people are really unsure what's going to happen past this moment that they have together but they are willing to enjoy it while it lasts. The guy is pretty unsure about what his feelings are but the girl is just waiting for him to make his decision about her. Beautiful song. Fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I think it's about something in his past and nature. When i read this song i can imagine some 10-year old kids playing in a place of nature such as a rainforest (the ferns, moss, streams). Just looking at the nature and taking it all in. "down a hill of pine tree quills we made our way to the bottom and the ferns where thick moss grows beside a stream. under the rocks are snails and we can fills our pockets and let them go one by one all day in a brand new place" Kids seem to be able to really respect and see things in a far more beautiful way than adults. I think this is because adults have seen the real world with all of the money and greed. Kids haven't seen that yet and are still learning, just taking it all in. The song, as i see it, is about how when we are young we see things so differently to when we are older Ps. "a life before doubt" ...enough said |
