okay now some people may hate me for this idea, but i'm just throwing it out there because I'm not sure what this song means. Pilate was also the jail guard when Jesus what imprisoned, so do you think that this song is about Christ? It makes sense a little bit because the first verse is about the hoopla surrounding people questioning faith today, then the chorus is about Pilate having something/someone like a dog who obeys, listens, kisses, and loves. (Christ put up with all the punishment, and still loved the people.) I've never read the pilate book everyone else has mentioned, so I could be so wrong. |

LiveUrLife is right - those lines are the best lines EVER written. I just want to know what horrible woman broke Eddie Vedder's heart like that! The only thing I can say negatively about it is that I prefer the live version where he says "I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I HOPE you'll be a star..." To me that makes it really sweet because he loves her so much he hopes and wants her to be happy, even if it is without him. aw... |

You guys are all wrong. This song is about animal rights, get it - the song is called ANIMAL. the 5 against one thing symbolizes how humans poach and abuse animals, and the animals are outnumbered and defenseless. Eddie Vedder is saying that he would "rather be with an animal" than be with the humans in our society. |
