| It's clear to me that this song is obviously, as said before, about his brother or at least it seems clear to me that it is. For me, it has some other meaning, too. I really love how he sings about "when I remember how you cut your arms"... This is something I'm quite familiar with. for me it is also about someone who is really fucked up because on one side he takes drugs and on the other side he is really depressive and self-destructive, e.g. the cuts on the arm. It is also about the singer's knowledge that the person spoken about could be so much more than this if he or she just recovered again, both physically and psychically. And I think it really is this way: If you feel like shit all the time, and if you feel worthless, you can't be what you might be if you were 'healthy' and if you also take drugs it's a never-ending vicious circle. by the way, drugs could also be medicine given to you in case of depression, like anti-depressants such as Lithium. | |

| just some other things I'd like to get cleared up: We're really not carnivores. Our intestine is far too long for a carnivore. carnivoral intestines are rather short since if not the meat inside would rot. ours is so long to digest and decompose the grains and similar stuff. well, what else... our teeth have nothing to do with eating meat! what about eating an apple? horses for example have a similar set of tooth. and the proteins - proteins contained in soy are much more healthy. it's like with all things: If you can have them vegetable, they'll be better for you than from an animal. Eating animals makes us sick, it's certainly much more dangerous than just smoking. it is proved that certain kinds of cancer are acquired far more often when eating meat. being vegetarian doesn't mean to sicken. I don't mind healthy products which means I mostly eat pizza and sweets and other stuff like that, but when my blood was tested there were no deficiency symptoms. I can just say that its great not eating animals and everyone who thinks about becoming vegetarian shouldn't be afraid but give it a try. | |

| well when I read comments such as the one from staleph1sh I get really angry. we don't have the fuckin right to eat animals! who gave you this right? I'm vegetarian for about 4 years now and I feel damn good about , knowing that there are no innocent animals being killed and tortured for my delight. and I feel really good about the fact that I'm not to blame for all the pain and the fear that those animals feel before they're slaughtered. And I certainly don't think that anyone has the fucking right to be some kind of proud of his meat consuming and like stale being arrogant about it. besides, the point with the food chain is really not a good one. yeah, animals eat other animals, but those are carnivores and we as human beings aren't. they don't have a choice, but we have the possibilities to choose between a huge amount of non-animal products and food. another point is that we're more intelligent and we have the ability to feel empathy. I really hate people like stale who truly think that they're god and unfailing. and just because meat is tasty don't mean you'll have to eat it. And I think a person taste is nothing against the cruelty and disease that animals have experienced before they were made your burger. | |

I think this song is so very beautiful, though its full of disappointment and its also very sad. hearing him singing lines like "And as you move on Remember me Remember us and all we used to be I've seen you cry I've seen you smile I've watched you sleeping for a while I'd be the father of your child I'd spend a lifetime with you I know your fears and you know mine We've had our doubts but now we're fine And I love you I swear thats true I cannot live without you" this is so touching! | I absolutely don't think this song is meant to be about splitting up with someone. In my eyes, it's about how you feel miserable every now and then and what others think about being depressed. It's like every sign of weakness and of feeling unwell you show is taken as something negative and as something crazy or insane by people surrounding you as many of them can't deal with it while they're busy pretending they're fine themselves so they can't deal with other people's problems and don't want to so they just think of those ones as being crazy. This song wants to tell that just because you don't feel well don't mean you're unnormal or worth less than a "normal" person, even though this might be what you feel. It says that it's just a phase that you have sometimes. And I think the song is quite hopeful and encouraging you to feel better about yourself and not let others bring you down. | |

I also always thought that this song was about suicide. First off, the title: My Sundown. Something ends. Then the "I could be so much more than this" part: I think he isn't content with what he is or what he is like, but somehow knows that deep down inside of him there is something more, something really special and though he would like to let it out, he can't. I have the same feeling very often. And then, after having sung this, he sings: "I'm gonna be so much more than this" - which means he is certain, and this is a point that is linked to suicide in my eyes, because when you're all lonely and unhappy, you still know when you kill yourself, the people that have never understood you or really wanted to get to know your real self now take a second look and may find what they have never seen before. I think the last part of the song (from "with one hand high ..." on, where he starts to write the "you's") is meant as a speech to everyone of us who feel the same as he does, like you try so hard but even though you may even achieve something, no one will care, no matter what you do. And last: "Goodbye, I'll be fine" - when I think of situations, in which I would say such a sentence, it'd be meant either ironically (but that wouldn't fit to the slowness of the song) or like: Well, I know you don't really care, so don't worry, it'll be all right, somehow - even if you know, you won't be all right at all. I see it like this: When he's dead, he hopes or maybe knows he'll be better then. All in all , a very sad song but very beautiful. |
