Portugal. The Man – Waves Lyrics | 10 years ago |
True. |
Interpol – The Scale Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Very special song or shall we say spiritual to me like so, during his twenty a man often goes through an inner struggle to battle his demons, luckily God never forgets but allows his freedom to be, becoming of a transgression, after deep transformations and concessions with the devil, so to speak, ultimately fastholds to the all encompassing visionary truth---We are on with God reintegrate as human consciousness. "You think they know us now. Wait till the stars come out" Paul who wrote the song is often personal with regards to the impersonal forces of nature. Day/Night. The music by itself stand as a "tribute" to the night. So to speak and in it the narrative comes from the vantage point of realizing we share nature's irrationality much in our own ways. I seek no Science where there is no shade. Where no disambiguation is felt in the presence of the natural, curiosity of the purveyor is non existent. However, the conditions to male much to the discrepancies of his senses permeate a shade which ironically light plays a duel force in the dark night of the soul in as much reality. |
A Perfect Circle – Vanishing Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I definitely think this has something to do without a once obstructive object being cleared away from the path. Transgression from a painful memory, relieved to a better place, for instance. I had depression, now that it's vanishing, "like a thought brushing up against a sigh" I feel completely better and normal. |
The National – Cherry Tree Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's generally about a movement within people that slowly staggers and collapses. I was wastching A Tree Fall. This song is used in the trailer and at the end of it's credits. I thought it was a perfect choice. The movement became tense after bad mistakes. People inside the movement became critical and ultimately divided. "No one's asking so leave it alone" A social, political, or economical problem that we try not to discuss. Someone people ignore or have discipline themselves to not bother with the problem. Let's just keep it normal, not upend ourselves or provoke our actions to display. Loose Lips Sink Ships. A ship is the whole crew, the social movement collapses when people infiltrate it and distract the movement away from its trajectory. Activists inside the movement get nervous, if what they're doing could incriminate themselves. Judas shit. They rat out, submit, and their beliefs falter in the end. And give out to the prosecutor, and the whole ships sinks. The movement is swallowed beneath public consciousness. |

M83 – Wait Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song is ephemeral to me. I think it talks about the infinite and death. |
Mazzy Star – Into Dust Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song is about death, at least to me. It kinda describes that feeling of separation between you in this reality and that of the other world, the underworld, the heavens, or whathaveyou. There's no religious background to it, nothing about the bible, the koran, etc. The song gives this floating feeling between your last breaths. In those last moments before death, who is by this persons' death bed, who is here now, who has made in it he's/her long journey. Only him/her, the struggling sides that have always conflicted beneath between making choices of taking this road or that one. Here there person's side, surrender, or lay in rest finally fading away. Growing colder.. He could feel under the fate of death, inevitable to us all. We must always fall under it's fate because there's no other way around it. It will take us the moment it arrives. Maybe, the last line could refer to a lover of some sort. "It was you breathless and tall", I could feel my eyes turning into dust. So this great over bearing moment of fate, only resembles that other time when fate led her/him to meet the lover of his/her life. |
Brand New – Degausser Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It REALLY bugs the shit out of me when people reference every fucking piece of lyrical creation to the bible. The Bible is not the only goddamn book out there, pick up another book. Unless there isn't public libraries around your area there shouldn't be any reason why you should constantly bring up whenever a topic is "tender" or "a bit spiritual".... To me this song, is about the personal anguish and struggles a person endures to find the better of themselves to give to their love one. "Goodbye to Sleep" - I got some thinking to do. I know I need to change, but I quite find out how yet. This staying is exactly what I need. "Take apart your head, Take apart the counting and the flock it has bred" - Following the same line of sleepless and restless night. Trying to figuer out the pieces and put it together. Where do I wanna go from here? http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858631304/14/ASC/#73015931754 "Took apart your head and swallow it" - It's more of a feeling his trying to describe. Like getting reading of your anguish, finding a way to clear your head, because some thoughts are gnawing and eating you up which has brought on this restlessness. "Goodbye you liar" - He's talking to himself. I'm going to be honest to myself. "You sip from a cup but you don't own up to anything" - Everything you pretend out there in the world, there act doesn't measure who you really are a person. All along you've only deceive yourself in your putting up these acts that had for so long clogged your ability to do something good. "I can't shake this little feeling" - This is something I need to figuere out now, it has been bothering me for a long time. |
Beirut – The Rip Tide Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I got the feeling that this song is about being okay about being alone. It is a bit melancholy but the feeling the repetitive, rhythimic beat you could almost bear your chest swaying to the "waves" as described by the song. The waves that could lift you, be it what you may enjoy, it kinda says to me, that no matter what we die alone. It's okay, we're all trying to bear the loneliness by riding on waves. Trends, joining the latest crowd. This whole oceanic feeling of being connected to others is what we all loved to part of. Yet, It say's ride the wave, whatever you'd find and just enjoy. It's okay to be alone, but not necessarily hostile to others. Give me some feedback..I hope this song get's more comments. This was my first favorite song off the new album. Twitter: @Neskrov. |
Thrice – Firebreather Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Open your mind damn it! pick up a book and explore beyond |
Thrice – Firebreather Lyrics | 13 years ago |
aaah i can't believe most interpretations on here on thrices song are soo saturated by religious point of view...this song could be about the violation of civil liberties around the world that the governments so strongly sworn to uphold but yet make the same mistakes of violating them over and over again! god dammit, don't we have school you guys? or does everyone just sleep with a bible under their pillow cover and use as a reference to explain lyrics? |
Thrice – Firebreather Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This reminds me of recent protesters in china, woman prostitutes who we're taken their rights by the federal government. This is also happened in a different scenario where a Man in Taliban was robbed of his civil liberties so he went in front of government building poured gasoline on himself and set himself on fire. It's a strong message of willing to die in flames for your freedom. |
Thrice – The Great Exchange Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song reminds me of the story Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. |
Radiohead – Codex Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Yea, I agree. I've felt that way. Actually, you hit a spot with that interpretation. I didn't see it before, but it sounds more practical than all the other philosophical points given so far... |
Radiohead – Codex Lyrics | 13 years ago |
A lot of people insuante the meaning of the song points to suicide. but i think in retrospective, jump into the clear water of innonce is kinda like hoping to having someone or something to find "rebirth" or cleansing from. the singer tells the person, if for whatever reason hopeless or desperate, to let go in order to move on in life and get over whatevers draggin him, to jump and cleanse himself. |
Radiohead – Codex Lyrics | 13 years ago |
wow i think you nailed it dude, i was going to write something along those line. i think people sometimes tend to inject it alot with superfluous amount of personal experience...but idk simplicity sums it the best. I guess you could say im a bit contradicting myself when i say, i felt this exact same way one day when i went to a park near my house at night, it has a lake, i was feeling lonely during those times and its exactly what i went over, to clear my mind, find some peace... |
Radiohead – Codex Lyrics | 13 years ago |
HA! I was thinking this exactly when I read the lyrics on the page, and then I scroll and BAM. |

The National – Think You Can Wait Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Dude you made me want to drink now. Cuz that is the best time to listen to this band. |
The National – Think You Can Wait Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I agree with most of your interpretation except on the line "we've been holding a good night gun". I think this could of been summed up more simply, you extracted more meaning from it than there was to find. I think it's just about being really stress by your thoughts at night. "sleepless run" Loss of sleep over thoughts on how to solve "our" problems, and like you said, it seems like they can't find any solution "losing our exits one by one" |
Coldplay – Life in Technicolor II Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"There's a wild wind blowing Down the corner of my street" The hardships of times have reached all of us "Every night they're headlights glowing" Kinda saying that you're experiencing the same thing, a daily routine, life is happening here and there everywhere you go...lights glowing have this radiant vibrancy that speaks "life" "There's a cold world coming On the radio I heard Baby it's a violent world" Lover, embrace the warmth with me cause it's obvious the world is going to get cold...cold, with wars, economy downturns, terrorist threats, you name it. "Oh love don't let me go Won't you take me where the street lights glow" Take me where the street lights glow, I picture a carnival feast out in the pier by the beach..where all the street lights glow. people are still trying to enjoy and make the best of life despite the troubles of the world. instead dwelling into drugs and alcoholism, go enjoy your life with your friends..to live life is to shine where the street lights glow...where all the rest of the people glow. "I can hear it coming I can hear the siren sound" Sirens -- Firefighters, the world is on fire.. political authorities, Interpol, United Nations, Presidents, Ambassadors, Kings, etc. they're all trying making an attempt and solving the puzzles of our world, or trying to put the fire out, the catastrophes, genocides, threats, etc. "Gravity released me And don't ever hold me down Now my feet won't touch the ground" Couples, Friends, Families, etc. are on the ferris wheel...releasing themselves from gravity, lifting off the ground and enjoying the sight of the moment. |

How did you come up with a great interpretation of this song? I always loved this song, since i was only connected with the song. And know it's scary that you've precisely described my current situation. Oh is this how we all feel when we come across a good song? I hope to hear from you... |
She & Him – In the Sun Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think she's more of an admirer from a distance, and she's notices the days when he's down. or when he's ashamed. in her mind, she still likes him for who he is, cuz sometimes she even has days when she's down but she manages to hide it in public (in the sun). |
Brand New – Noro Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I couldn't agree with you more. From the first lines of the song, I got the same feeling from this song. I felt this song gives a bigger perspective of our whole society.. |
Coldplay – I Ran Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Before I read everyones post and get influenced on how I perceive this song, I wanna take the time out to put out my thoughts on the song. From what I could imagine, this song is written from the mind of someone that is constantly on the move and running away from every opportunity presented to him to open up to someone and fall again (all over again), he takes it for granted that he may find love, but is convinced by thought (hence the line 'everyone i know') that love should be put off and that it may be something he hesitates to get involve in because of the damage cause to him/her in previous situations. I take this line to mean that maybe he still waiting for that self-actualization before he gets tangled in another dangerous situation. "And yet my day is not so full There might be nothing left to do So I ran away from you" |
The Temper Trap – Soldier On Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i often come across songs that use "lighthouse" as an imagery. but it puzzles me that i still don't understand it...i come across different sense of the word. but if anyone could help me out on this one, that would be great. |
Radiohead – 15 Step Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I could be more specific about the details of the song, but that would take much more space and time and frankly I don't think anyone will ever read everything. |
Radiohead – 15 Step Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"How come I end up where I started? How can I end up where I went wrong? Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out and you cut the string " It's like she's telling herself, how could I be so stupid to fall into the same situation over and over again. She is often left high and dry and now tells her to stay focus on the ball--on her future, to compensate for not being able to ever fall into the relationship of her dreams. |
Radiohead – 15 Step Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song perfectly fits my experience with a girl. She had a rough history with relationships, one way or another they always ended up hurting her or disappointing her. Then I come along, and try to make it a better picture for her. As our lust progresses, things gets worse for me. I fall into a overwhelming depression filled with anxiety. And for weeks...I isolate myself and hem myself in. I lose touch with others, I feel disconnected and out of place. Things got worse once I started smoking pot to ease my frustrations. She couldn't help me, and it didn't help our relationship to get anywhere. She just felt like she couldn't reach me. 15 steps to me sounds like the nature of us falling into "the hole" and then trying to reach out or get out for some help. Kind of like the drug addiction problem... |
Thrice – Open Water Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I would of loved if you would elaborated more on your idea. To me, this songs reminds of Joseph Conrad. Heart of Darkness |
Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 14 years ago |
hmmm i like your interpretation. it fitting perfectly with what i went through. |
Phoenix – Rome Lyrics | 14 years ago |
My interpretation of the song is emphasized by the way the music captivates my mood and by yearning to make some connections of the song to my personal experience in the past. In this song, its about the feelings and thoughts of two people that once had something special together. This song is written in the d |

The National – Slow Show Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I really like your interpretation. I could relate to it, well, except the age part. I've only reached 21 so far.. |
Brand New – Daisy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
On a personal level of connection this song runs like a film through my head. Different phrases are scattered in its meaning. The first part of the song does bring about a tone of a hopeless person. A feeling of being trapt and hostile towards everything around him.the voice in the song of the boy brings a feeling of nostalgia, "he doesn't want to be" he doesn't ever wanna be like the person feeling so hopeless. The process described in later verses reminds me of the repetitiveness of the cycle in the world. Everyone must endure the tough depression, to blossom at the end. |
