What a classic song. One of my favorite songs of all time. i wish i could find the video for it, I've even written to Irelands national TV company asking of they might have a copy as it is of special significance to me (i think my Dad is in it, all i know is that it was shot in dublin around 1982 I think and there is a beautiful shot of the old haypenny bridge in it))to have the video and they never responded to me. oh well! |

Wasn't this a Buddy Holly song originally? Or am I losing my mind. Well I heaqd a very old scratchy version of it by a very young Beatles and its quite enjoyable to listen to. I don't think Ringo was even with them yet. I think Gerry and the Pacemakers may have covered this song then afterwards, somebody did anyways and went up the charts with it. |

Even though its such a simple little song there is a real sense of mystique or an air about it that makes you feel enthralled or connected. I really like the song. |

I like the long intro to this song. I envision swinging around 1960's London or Rome on a little moped or something with this song blaring. |

Emmm....why hasn't anyone mentioned the obvious reference to male genetalia in this song? The silver hammer refers to a PENIS.
"But when she turns her back on the boy, he creeps up from behind"
"P.C. thirty-one said, we’ve caught a dirty one"
"came down upon her head"

| U2 – Stories For Boys Lyrics

Apparently this was one of U2's earliest songs and had written it long before Boy came around. Bono mentioned that there is a part in this, not sure if he meant lyrics or in the melody that is extremely similar to Vertigo. I've been listening to it lately to try to pick up on what he was on about but alas...to no avail....
However, the first line "There's a place I go and I am far away" to me is wierdly similar to one of the songs on the Beatles first album called "there's a place"
"there's a place...where I can go..when i feel low...when i feel blue....etc"
Every time I hear stories for boys I think of that. Sorry if I'm boring you to death, just what i think..! |
