Jenny Lewis – Born Secular Lyrics 16 years ago
"The way mothers greet their sons/ when it's a moment too late" To me, this seems like it means crying or grieving; A moment too late meaning that their son is dead, so the person is mourning. The fact that the word used is "son," rather than daughter or something more ambiguous leads me to believe that maybe this is a reference to war?

The Searchers – Love Potion No. 9 (The Clovers cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a cleverly disguised drug song.

The guy gets nervous when he is around women, so the drug dealer on Thirty-Fourth and Vine suggests he get intoxicated to calm his nerves.
It seems to work at first, but eventually he gets busted by the cops.

Moral of the story, cops don't like acid eaters.

Led Zeppelin – In My Time of Dying Lyrics 20 years ago
In all respect, zeppelin never covered a song a day in their life. listen to this thing... the only similarities it bares to the origonal is the lyrical work, which has considerably large alterations to it at that.
the time signature changes in this song is mind numbing. Alot of really technical stuff with the beat, and while the guitar isn't to difficult to play....MAN! it sounds frikin cool.
If you arent a missisipi delta blues guy, just listen past the first few minutes, it starts to rock hard. Truly one of my favorites.

Led Zeppelin – Dazed and Confused Lyrics 20 years ago
If you don't know what this song is about, your too young to know. Jimmy wrote all of it, lyrics and all while he was in the yardbirds near the end of their career. (i dont think it ever made it to the studio with them) Btw. Jeff beck Jimmy Page and Eric clapton were all in the yard birds, but not at one time. It was clapton, then beck, then jimmy and beck, then jimmy. The raw emotion and power of this song is just chilling. It just rages with that dark underground vibe. Darkest lyrics of the day (looks like small beer today).
Awesome music. Some of the greatest guitar work jimmy's ever done (live, that is) btw, the violin sequence isnt a load of bull, its very technical musical bits. Alot of tricky bits in there, takes alot of theory knowledge to do for 20 minutes.

Melanie Safka – Brand New Key Lyrics 20 years ago
Here's what Melanie Safka has to say about it:
"'Brand New Key' I wrote in about fifteen minutes one night. I thought it was cute; a kind of old thirties tune. I guess a key and a lock have always been Freudian symbols, and pretty obvious ones at that. There was no deep serious expression behind the song, but people read things into it. They made up incredible stories as to what the lyrics said and what the song meant. In some places, it was even banned from the radio."

"Brand New Key" broke on American radio in October 1971 and reached the top of the charts in December. For nearly four months, confused record buyers flooded the stores asking for "The Roller Skate Song," "I've Got a Brand New Pair of Roller Skates," and even "The Bicycle Song." Fortunately, all finally were steered to the right record.

"I used to love singing 'Brand New Key,'" said Melanie, "at first. It had great shock value, dropped in the middle of one of my concerts. I'd be singing along about Suffering and the Trials of Man, and then suddenly, 'I've got a brand-new pair of roller skates...' It had a great effect. After it became a hit, though, the fun kind of wore off, at least for me. Some things, I think, are better left a surprise."
