for some reason to me, there is a sweetness and innocence to this song....as if the early levels of naivity have not yet been broken. I (and this is only me thinking this im sure) think that the song is about a boy....and his play mate. who, when younger, sees no difference btwn sexes. a girl playmate who will run thru the woods and catch frogs is just as good as a boy. but then mama says they cant play together anymore...they are getting older. the playmate is now letting his "hair hang down". the sense that it is a boy no longer exists. the "darker side of town" may represent the losing of one's innocence, sexually or mentally...not so much virginity, but within society, the darker thoughts come into play with both sexes...historically thought that men force themselves on women which would mean she is lingering in the darker side of town. "why dont your eyes see me?" refers to her playing coy (her new game, which many women of pristine nature seem to do). as well, "kissing tiny flowers" is a femenine act, a sensual and tender thing to do...crying...again, of womanly nature... i dunno, mabye these two child-hood friends are supposed to be together in the end. i dont care if its correct, but when i hear this song, i have a vivid image in my mind of what i belive it means. |
