LCD Soundsystem – Watch The Tapes Lyrics 15 years ago
I think it's about being in your mid-20's, when you're just starting to work for a living, but you still have dreams of playing music, and doing something creative with your life... but you need that steady source of income so you get a part time job, or you freelance a few days a week, and the next thing you know "you stay for the year". What was supposed to just be a dayjob turns into a... "steady career".
The chorus is just something you'd hear at orientation for a new job.. sort of like "refer to the employees manual." The " high on lemon sips" line is sort of sarcastic, like the most exciting part of your day becomes eating junk food at lunch...
Or maybe i'm completely wrong. That's just how I relate to it.

Armor for Sleep – Williamsburg Lyrics 18 years ago
wow, this band is awful... i just heard this song for the first time and i nearly doubled over laughing... emo kids' reactions to brooklyn is precious. "how could there be people that think they're cooler than we are?"

Elliott Smith – Bled White Lyrics 18 years ago
the first time i really paid attention to the lyrics in this song, i was in upstate NY visiting some former bandmates who i hadn't seen in a few years. this song came on my car's stereo and it so eerily described the situation i was in that it gave me goosebumps...
i live in NYC and i sort of figured he was talking about the (orange line) F train as well. to me it'll always be about nyc but now i know its about oregon...

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – How Near How Far Lyrics 21 years ago
but yeah the intro/chorus on this song is awesome. Try playing this right after Source Tags and Codes ends... you know, after the strings.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – How Near How Far Lyrics 21 years ago
Possibly about a particular painting he remembers from his childhood? We all have weird memories of objects like this that hung in our houses and our rooms, that you would sit and stare at and could just get lost in... "muses left behind"
