ahh this song is sooo good. after analyzing it it feels like i just watched a movie that won some sorta bestpicture award. cause i'm just awestruck. its deep. but WHAT DOES IT MEAN. i'm dam confused. its one of those messages that leave you dumbfounded.. and you just sit there and then you're like, WTF?! is it a happy ending. a sad ending. a neutral ending meant to leave you disturbed (i vote for this). cause it seems he's saying there's nothing better than death. but instead of being happy and saying, THEREFORE kids, live life with all you got and be happy. instead he says, death is awesome, and btw, life sucks. funny that you say that ouroboros. i actually read through this ENTIRE thing looking for god references and only found 1 until yours. so that would be 2 total, 3 including mine: i don't know why god wasn't brought up as a possible argument yet cause if we know this guy's history, which i looked into a little for his other songs (like judith), it wouldn't be surprising if this was song was against god. after i read that the song was written b4 bush's administration i became even more suspicious. i was really bummed tho when some guy posted that maynard admitted that it was political. still, lets pretend that he was wrong, cause yuo never know, maybe he is: maynard was a catholic as a young kid and his mother died and he always wondered why the heck she kept on praising god despite all her pain (that's what judith was about); this connects to ouroboros' view. the other guy before just said, " i think its about god" . i do too, b/c look at the lyrics under the god lens, it makes perfect sense. people who were born into chrisitian religions that teach that god will always listen to your prayers and protect you (seeker sensitive movement) might develop a case where they become extremely disillusioned when they 'grow up' and realize that its not always the case.. some might be scarred permanently (probably maynard). also its been known that maynard usualy hides the true meanings of his songs and laughs at us while we get really wrong interpretation. looking at his history, i woudln't be surprised that this is about god. a guy is hurting, he loves god, but god, obviously, for wutever reason, never responds to us (in human sense form at least.. personally i'm agnostic but even christians admit god never comes in a recognizable form). he doesn't answer your prayers. if something bad happens, christians exclaim "god works in mysterious ways". well maynard might've come to the conclusion that it was utter bullshit. i apologize to chrsitians , but i really do believe this is the meaning of song. in a less offensive note just realize the context of the song. maynard isn't necessarily hating god. he's disappointed, he's saddened, and he , (like the song smashing pumpkins wrote)wishes that he can connect to god. however, god doesn't respond and he starts to become disillusioned. its hard to love someone who ignores. some mgiht think that my reasoning is a little off the edge, but trust me, speaking personally, its very easy to HATE complacent chrsitianity if you were an ex-christian turned agnostic/atheist .... maybe even hold a grudge against god aite tahst enough babbling haha, but seriously think about it. =] |

to xperronex, i agree that the lyrics are a little outta hand. with all the wanna kill yous, and 'insane' screams at the end, it seems like they're some sorta evil demonic cult or something. but you have to understand the context. sometimes, somedays, especially if you have a dark past (which i'm sure these guys probably do), you have a lot of angst built up. songs like these just scream out 'im pissed' and 'i'm irrational at the moment but just let me be'. in that way, since the band is able to make you sick, they succeeded in doing what they were trying to do, which is a good thing (follow my weird logic?) =P senses fail never really mean what they say literally anyways. i'm sure most of us think thoughts like that every once in a while, (some more than others). good song; i really like the little guitar thingy at the beginning. the song is powerful; it sends chills down ur spine and helps relieve tension if ur really pissed. |
