| Heh, it might just be where they got the song name. Good observation. | |

| Yeah, I also noticed the multi-meaning of the line "hit the ground running on empty stories we'd been told." It's broken up into 4 variable parts: "hit the ground," "hit the ground running," "hit the ground running on empty," and "hit the ground running on empty stories we'd been told." | |

mmbs, the song's popular because idiots like to get attention, and make people think they're all sad and lonely. I call these people "hot topic goths." They don't really know what goth means, they're not really sad, but they just love to play the part. And then there's all the "cool" and "popular" people in school who love to pretend they're on the level with this music. Fools, you're not alone. You've got all your wank friends to go get drunk and high with. True, some people may actually apply to the lyrics. Some people may actually have good reason to like the song. But for the most part, I think people are simply stupid and that liking two songs on the American Idiot album are as close to "punk" as they're ever going to get. The fuckers. |

Sure glad I came to his here site... otherwise I wouldn't have even heard of this one. I think the song totally owns. Well, basically I think each album has its own sort of transitional sound. The self-titled, early singles and Goddamnit have a sort of fast-paced, high-pitched punk noise. Maybe I'll Catch Fire is more mellow and dark. FHTI is back to the older quick pace, but with it comes a new, fresh, energetic feel. Good Mourning seems to culminate their feel with it combines deep, dark, emotional feeling (Continental, All on Black, etc) with a happy-yet-regretful feel (100 Stories, Emma, etc). So onto my point: seems like "Weak Week" has the sound of a transitional point somewhere between FHTI and Good Mourning. It has that sound to it; it's fast, rich and vigorous like the Infirmary tracks but it has that darker, more "Good Mourning" intensity. Could it be a song they decided to cut from a future album? foryrlungs could be right... if Glen wrote it, they probably wouldn't redo or play it anymore. I think it would've been awesome to have it been included on Good Mourning, though. |

@ BrainStewed74: Good point. Good music often seems like it becomes tired and not-so-good anymore when fucks like MTV and TV sitcoms play it all the time and let the pop-punk barbiedolls have at it. It sucks. When the video for "Minority" came out on TRL I got real angry, because I knew the next day at school half the cheerleading squad was going to be singing that they wanna be the minority. Makes me sick. This song? I think it's now the token Hot-Topic-Goth-Punk excuse to act morose and depressed. "Wahhh, Billie-Joe's singing for ME because my life sucks and I walk all alone and stuff." No he doesn't, he killed your childhood pet out of spite you pricks. Green Day doesn't care if they're popular or overplayed. They do what they do because they love doing it, not because they give a damn what anyone thinks. |

mtvsucks019... haha, love the name. Yessir, they do suck the balls of life, royally. IndelibleEntity... the American Idiot album is the story of the Jesus of Suburbia, encountering Saint Jilly and Whatsername along the way. The website www.greendayauthority.com is an excellent fansite; check it out. This link gives you a probable overview on the context of the album: http://greendayauthority.com/TheBand/songmeanings.php#AmericanIdiot |

It said on their official site that it's about losing someone to drug overdose; "bed and breakfast in a spoon," "you made one last stop at the store," "this bouncing baby boy's now turning baby blue," etc. BigRyRy, righto. Best song on Good Mourning, and one of my favourites of theirs. |

Who's this "Kay" you '02 posters speak of? Meh... 3 years too late. I feel foolish... heehee. The woman's name is Stephanie Dougherty; it says so in the Blackout album's insert. Yeah, great song. |

They played this when they were on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien." It's an awesome song, if you like their Irish-folk/punk twist. DKM are a badass band. I love Boston and I love punk, so seeing "Walk Away"'s vid on MTV (ergh... I'm so ashamed) piqued my interest. Several downloads, suggestions from friends and some mass-pirating later, I love these guys. |

Meh, I'm not trying to be judgemental but syncyr, if American Idiot is the only album you have, it's hard to call yourself a real fan. Once again, I'm not putting you down or anything but this album separates itself from their previous 8. It's far more dark, emotional and allegorical than the rest. I suggest buying a few more disks and seeing if you like the more old-school Green Day. Might I suggest Insomniac, Dookie and Kerplunk, to get an overall good feel for who Green Day are. I've been a raging fan for 5 years or so now. Favourite band, hands down. American Idiot is hard to call "better" than the rest of their work but if anything it sure as hell comes close. When I was driving home from the mall the day I got it, "Blvd. of Broken Dreams" came on and I was instantly drawn in. I'm not a sentimental sort but it did indeed give me the wet-eyes-syndrome. Call me traditional but I was disappointed when they came out with a video for it and I saw it on the arch-enemy of good music, MTV. I quivered with digust as I heard teeny-bob princesses and football cockjocks cheer and see them do the rockon sign for the song. What filth. It's not like I'm mad that people love Green Day; I'm mad that they hear one song on MTV and buy a t-shirt and call themselves a big fan. I think the song is about the loneliness and despair that goes along with today's society. Billie-Joe said in an interview with AP (Alternative Press) that he's scared to death to bring his kid up in this world of hate and fear. I guess the song's conveying his weariness of the world. |

I love this song. The futility of politics combined with music aside ("Rock Against Bush"... what twats. Like he cares that some bands got together to hate him, and rather obviously, like it really helped turn the election), this is probably one of my favourite Trio songs. At first glance, I believed the song was about Matt's sorrow at the destruction of war. He can't go on; his head's too heavy. From early on, they saw the warning signs/ dreaming of better days, etc. I thought it was about how Matt believed that Bush's decisions involving Iraq were destructive and only caused needless death and despair. Looking closer at the lyrics and at your guys' opinions... I guess that might not be it. Meh. I kept trying to figure out what the "storm of '59" was. At first I thought it might've been Bush Jr.'s birthyear (hence, the rocking against him) but it's not, so... I dunno. Interpreting Matt's allegories and metaphors can be tricky, since he's such a talented songwriter. I just sit back and enjoy the song; there's a lot about it to enjoy. |

I adore Alk. 3; 2nd favorite band, I suppose. First heard of them a few years back from my older sis, saw them in Pitt. May 20, '04. I can't get enough of Matt; he's truly a lyrical artist. Radio... it's one of my favourites to sing along with. I can get really worked up when I scream along to it. It's hard not to. I guess it's about a breakup; "red eyes on orange horizons," when tears are shed over losing someone dear to you, and the sporadic hatred that may go along with it, hoping that special someone takes your radio to bathe with them. |
