The New Pornographers – Jackie Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the choice of the name "Jackie" is excellent. It brings to mind the Kennedys and the idea of the utopian an vibrant United States that might of been, but probably wouldn't have.

Contrast this with the "ocean antics" and dispicable "wisdom and pain" in modern polictics, and I believe this is what makes the song so effective.

The New Pornographers – The Fake Headlines Lyrics 19 years ago
The imagery of the carnival atmosphere with the midway and rollercoasters seem to reflect how the narrator views the media - a circus. The headlines are just thrown together and selectively filtered and skewed so the reading public just eats it up and "come[s] back" for more.

I don't understand the line about "kicking pills," anyone?

Wilco – War On War Lyrics 19 years ago
kimgarbow, awsome connection with the Myan myth.

I would suggest the war is Life versus Death. Obviously death will ultimately win and you (or your Life) will lose. Then, the War on War would be coming to terms with your own eventually death and learning how to live your life in enjoyment of each moment.

However the lines "You are not my typewriter / But you could be my demon moving forward through flaming doors" does throw me through a bit of a loop. They stand out as the only lines that aren't repeated and being the most cryptic. Perhaps the narrator doesn't want "you" to just stay with him, remind him of things, and take letters for him; however if "you" want to stick around when the war is over, he'll throw you through the gates of hell to save his own soul. Hmm... that sounds a bit more savage than I thought it would.

Yo La Tengo – My Little Corner Of The World Lyrics 19 years ago
rhymeswithorange, actually that is Georgia Hubley on lead vox, and the tone is quite feminine (although a tonne of male fronted music is as well). But I'd more or less agree with your interpretation of the song.

The Smiths – Ask Lyrics 19 years ago
How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Smiths...

I would definitely agree with the Dr. Strangelove reference in "the bomb will bring us together." I would also agree with a previous post regarding "writting frightening verse to a buck-toothed girl in Luxemburg" paralleling to internet relationships or even webservices like songmeanings where numerous anonymous (and possible shy, coy) people are diverting their energies from things that really matter and that would bring them real joy... Oh well, I've already started this post, may as well finish. (*coy*)

Just to take Moz's advice on this one - my Friday evening is wide open... Would anyone like to see a picture show? (*coyX2*)

Yo La Tengo – My Little Corner Of The World Lyrics 21 years ago
Initially I thought this was just a nice song about feelings for someone you've just met. But the last verse the pronouns change to plural "our little corner... ."

Is this because the narrator is accepting someone new into her world and now see it as theirs? Or are these the words of lonley woman cursed with multiple personalities, who is begging someone to be with her is spite of her numerous personalities.
