right, the video's pretty cool! Bono said this song is using a different timing--one not used much for pop songs, 6/7? I am not sure. It seems to use the standard formula of verse/chorus, verse/chorus, & bridge--I really like Edge's guitar on the bridge. The lyrics, esp. at the beginning, clearly speak of redemption, brought about by love, and the 2nd verse seems to speak of what can be accomplished with love. |

It seems like you are just waiting around in this song...passing the time, getting through life....hoping for something big to happen, some change, some revival, redemption.... Let's see something new... "if the sky can crack..." sounds like Jesus coming back |

I agree with zenwizard''s view of the song. We never read the Bible, we never pray, we don''t believe in the amazing grace Christ gives, but when something bad happens, let''s call the Almighty in to the defense stand...surely he owes us an explanation as to why things don''t always go our way What about personal responsibility? What about God''s use of tragedy to bring mercy and enlightenment? I in no way minimize the pain and suffering of the world. It is very real. But there is hope, and there is strength, if we''ve got the guts to try, as Rich Mullins would say.... |

| U2 – The Hands That Built America Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think the first 2 verses refer to America's development--hills and plains to hanging steel (skyscrapers) in the sky. I'm reminded of September 11, 2001 when I hear the words "It's early fall, there's a cloud in the NY skyline", though I don't know if that's what Bono means. |

| U2 – Last Night On Earth Lyrics | 21 years ago |

"the future is so predictable the past is too uncomfortable" should be "she hasn't been to bed in a week, she'll be dead soon, then she'll sleep" I think Could this song be about the church? |

| U2 – Do You Feel Loved Lyrics | 21 years ago |

The start of the song before the heavy synth rhythm reminds me of summer time.... This song will grow on you. Like others, I think it's about confusing lust for love. Is love more than sex? Yes. Do you feel loved? |

| U2 – Peace On Earth Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Yes, impatience with God seems a theme in u2. They say things to God that I cannot. There is a very somber mood to this song. When angels came to announce Jesus birth, they said peace on earth, good will to men. There was a lot of peace on earth at that time--pax romana. Perhaps there was a lot of peace because of so much spiritual apathy on earth. Jesus said later, don't think that I came to bring peace. He stirred things up, showing right from wrong more clearly--showing light that darkness hated. Now since there is great light in the the world, and great darkness, I don't think there can be peace. At least for right now. But now I am veering off of song meaning! To want peace is not a bad thing. |

| what a sad song to hear on the radio when a girl you know is far away | |
| U2 – Bullet The Blue Sky Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Although I disagree with the anti-gun message (I'm sure they mean that though), and am unsure of all the compications of the El Salvador U.S. relations, I get a sense of Bono saying, "Come on America, you are great, you can do better than this" when he talks at the end and finishes, "into the arms of America." | |
| U2 – Beautiful Day Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Along the same lines as some of what I'm reading, Bono said this song was about someone who had lost it all....and couldn't be happier. This could be the man at the computer, or maybe Christ, as he wakes up in a stable in Bethlehem. It is a striking image indeed. Spanish eyes...that phrase pops up quite a lot doesn't it? |

| U2 – Crumbs From Your Table Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Though you might look at it somewhat either way...ie, Bono's rich and out of touch, or he's doing good where he is...I think, like Montrose, that he is doing good where he is. Who else is in the unique position that Bono is in to influence people of political power? We've all heard it said that politicians listen to him. He serves in his own way. Not everyone is called to the field. Some are called to the business room. He is doing a heck of a lot better than sitting around all day on his arse, smoking dope, hanging out with groupies, I think. I think he has hit on some truth in this song. Christians are called to do good to the poor, this is part of letting "the light" shine. Doing good to Africa would be a tremendous way to let the light of the gospel shine. And there actually are some Christian groups doing it. Perhaps this song is a call for more to come on board and reach out. To stop thinking about ME all the time. Why is it sometimes songs of scathing rebuke sound so good musically? |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Name Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I heard that they were originally going to put in the lyric "what is your name?" at the end of the song, but decided to leave it out. I love Reznick's guitar. |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Sympathy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
When the Dolls played Buffalo (show released on DVD), Reznick said "this song is about something we all need but you should never ask for" Is that a smart comment, or is it on par with Dana Carvey's "A long time ago there were a lot of people, but that was a long time ago..."? |
