I think the end of the first verse is worded a bit differently:
"Do you appreciate the subtleties of taste, Bud?"
You people sure do, if you like AC that is.
P.S. don't call me 'Buddy,' Guy... |

I love that people continue to post their opinions on this site, it is a beautiful thing, don't stop, you are all correct. With that said, I would like to add a new take on this song for anyone who cares to read it.
I think its about the music business. I agree completely that it is about a loss of innocence. The music video definitely implies this. Another thing I took from the video to support my theory is that they are playing a battle of the bands.
Before I saw the video, I thought the line "Pearly like the whites of your eyes" was a reference to a fake smile, like one you would give to a record executive type who's eyes are as fake as your smile.
The rest of the imagery seems to represent being corrupted so to speak. The first verse could be about first getting into the scene. and the second verse (godDAMN so good) singing about hot water bleeding their colors is like being in the hectic world of the music biz and being bled dry, also talking to and meeting so many new people who you're not sure what they want from you, it would be exhausting? just speculating.
So to conclude, Hang me up to dry means that they have been 'wrung out too many times' and have nothing left to give, so hang em up to dry so they can be in peace and not think about cutting deals and selling out.
This would make sense as it was their hit single. |

i dont think it has to do with michigan, and i thought braid was a chicago band, thats close to michigan, but.....
So i think its about somebody who likes to throw tantrums in public. I know a couple people like this, and like Bob, i really love to see them gone. |

i always thought it had something to do with todd bell, who is the bass player. But it seems like somebody is faking their life, and its obvious and painful to watch. |

if this riff doesnt make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, i think you might need to check your pulse.
I think this song is saying not to be beside yourself about living your life maybe? Seems kind of existentialist. "don't kill yourself" |

three failed attempts in one*
now i know you will*
So little work with lyrically, such a great song.
I think it's about fucking up and trying to justify yourself. somebody else should really post here, because this is a phenomenal band, and id love to know what other people think of these songs. |

Yeah, i bet this has been said already, if it has, i totally agree. But i get the feeling like he's at a party as he says, so this is going to be a prestigious party right? lots of important people, brandon boyd is quite fuckin famous these days. So he meets this girl, and this whole song gives her a very non-groupie connotation. So he isnt expecting this very open sexuality that this girl has. |

a lot of great points. i definitely see the metaphor of the frequent ice storms he grew up with and his family. maybe a metaphor between the snow and the "real world". meaning that these kids, these products of a mindfucking suburbia hell are just failing miserably in the real world and destryoing their lives. So that makes a third metaphor between the ice storms and an american generation of mentally ill kids. |

put extremely profoundly, kittenclaw. i might even add that the verse about catching his tears in a cup makes me think of an I.V. perhaps. Suggesting, possibly, that alex was in the hospital for a year due to an accident. The accident, as kittenclaw pointed out, most likely deals with a heroin addiction, hence "bit by a vampire." |
