Seals & Crofts – Summer Breeze Lyrics 7 years ago
@[bartel:15320] You're right. Several sites seem to have the lyrics from the wrong song. Some have it right though. I've copied the lyrics from letssingit.com, that look right, and edited the lyrics on this site. Unfortunately it says it has to go to the copyright holder for approval, and they may never approve it. So we could be stuck with the wrong lyrics. :/

Fujiya & Miyagi – Ankle Injuries Lyrics 12 years ago
Why do they say the name of the band so many times at the beginning of the song? It's not connected to the rest of the lyrics. Are they just trying to make sure we know how to pronounce it? Do they introduce all their songs by saying their band name again and again? Can you imagine a Radiohead song staring out with them saying "Radiohead, Radiohead, Radiohead..." again and again?

Fiona Apple – Window Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the window is a metaphor for her relationship with the man she's singing about. She feels that the relationship has insulated her from the outside world, made everything outside unclear. She needed to break it - to break up the relationship - in order to see the world clearly again. The "her" she refers to is probably a woman he was cheating with. The window was blocking her view of that cheating. "When it's clean it's so clear that I can't tell what I'm looking through" means that sometimes, she feels like she does perceive the outside world, but at those times, she doesn't feel like there's a relationship.

Kaiser Chiefs – I Predict a Riot Lyrics 18 years ago
My first impression on hearing this song was that the title and preeminent lyric, "I predict a riot", was a clever way to get the band's audience to jump up and down, while simultaneously putting on an ersatz innocence and a prescient wisdom.

I also thought that despite fitting well into the current wave of early 80's retro music, it actually was a catchy tune.

I now have an additional perspective on the song. Thanks to you folks from across the pond, I would never have decoded such obscurities as "Smeaton", "Leodiensian", or even "tracksuit". In fact, I still have no idea what "lairy" means. But, I can now see that the underlying social phenomenon they expound upon in this song is real, not a concocted fantasy to make the fans jump up and down (like something Motley Crue would have done) - although that is a benefit.

They are criticizing rowdy behavior, not praising it. Nevertheless, the message will be lost on most fans.

The Cranberries – Linger Lyrics 18 years ago
I have to admit I rarely pay detailed attention to the lyrics of songs. I hear just enough to get an emotion. This song is no exception.

When this song came out I had a big crush on a girl who didn't love me back. The song is all about a girl who's crazy about a guy, so for me it was a beautiful dream of what could be.

Now that I have read the lyrics more carefully, I see it is obvious the woman is clinging on to someone who's hurt her. I guess that just wasn't relevant to me at the time. Now I guess I have to take it as a warning. :)

The Smiths – Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others Lyrics 18 years ago
To me it always meant that some women are fatter than others. It's an obvious thing, but it's a delicate subject that people don't like to talk about. Morrissey is throwing it out from an innocent viewpoint, as a child who just discovered this fact.

It's like the kid who's in the supermarket and points and says, "Look, mom, she's fat!" How indecorous. But innocent.

Sure, men can be fat too. But being a boy in the song, he's taken that for granted. It's more taboo to talk about women's sizes and so it's the realization of the different sizes of women, which everyone wants to hide, that the little Morrissey boy feels he needs to point out, since nobody seems to notice!

They Might Be Giants – We're The Replacements Lyrics 19 years ago
This song refers to a real band, The Replacements, formed by Paul Westerberg, Bob & Tommy Stinson, and Chris Mars. They were known for their rowdy, drunken behavior at shows. In the beginning, they were hardcore. Later, they mellowed out. Paul Westerberg went solo.

They Might Be Giants – We Want A Rock Lyrics 19 years ago
Don't take this too seriously, but someone once claimed it was predicting the Persian Gulf war:

"Everybody wants Iraq to wind up peace around spring."

They Might Be Giants – She's An Angel Lyrics 19 years ago
The phrase "living on a pinhead" refers to the question, supposedly debated in the Middle Ages, of "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"

If Ana is from Vietnam, and the singer is from the exact opposite side of the world, he must be from Colombia.

Steely Dan – Haitian Divorce Lyrics 19 years ago
It does sound like a shotgun wedding... she was pregnant "it grew, and everybody knew", so they had to get married. But they weren't ready to get married so they fought on the altar and broke up.

Steely Dan – Haitian Divorce Lyrics 19 years ago
Sounds like a hot-blooded couple who broke up right at the altar - only to get back together for some sex.

Apparently this happens a lot in Haiti?

Frankly, "Haitian Divorce" sounds like some kind of Mafia extermination technique.

This guy's not just dealing drugs, he's manufacturing them. Kind of sounds like a meth lab but maybe LSD.

Elton John – Jamaica Jerk Off Lyrics 19 years ago
Hmm... sounds like it's an ode to masturbation.

Interesting that Jamaican "jerk" is a kind of seasoning.

Adam Green – Jessica Lyrics 19 years ago
Sounds like he's trying to make fun of Jessica Simpson, which she certainly deserves... but it makes no sense, so it defeats the purpose.

By the way, it's "the way that you faked it the day that you died". Which is nonsense.
