Stiff Little Fingers pretty much thought paramilitary organisations on both sides, the Army and the RUC were all as bad as each other.

Eurythmics – For The Love Of Big Brother Lyrics 18 years ago
These lyrics are slightly off.I'll post the correct ones.

Like a train passing in the distance
Like a bird in flight, I hear you call
And even though there's no-one
Dark shadows move across the wall

I still the echoes of your footsteps on the stairs
Still recall the images that seem to linger there

Faces seem like fingerprints
Like skeletons of leaves upon the lawn
People changing places
Lasting for a moment, then it's gone

I still hear the echoes of your footsteps on the stairs
Still recall the images that seem to linger there

Like a train passing in the distance
Like a bird in flight, I hear you call
And even though there's no-one
Dark shadows move across the wall

I still hear the sound of conversation from the hall
Look to see who's coming
But it's nothing and there's no-one there at all
No-one there at all
No-one there at all
No-one there at all

This is probably my favourite song on the album, along with Doubleplusgood. It's so beautiful and eerie.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Infinite Sadness Lyrics 19 years ago
It's on the vinyl versio of MCIS as the closing track on the Starlight side of the album. (Being vinyl there are 3 LPs and 6 sides, called "Dawn" "Teatime" "Dusk" "Twilight" "Midnight" and "Starlight". Also the track list is rearranged and there are two songs not on the CD, this track and Tonite Reprise.) I can't understand why this track was left off the cd version, it complements the opening instrumental very well.

The other extra track on vinyl is Tonite Reprise.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Lyrics 19 years ago
Amazing instrumental, but Infinite Sadness is even better. It was the closing track on the vinyl version of Mellon Collie (there are two extra tracks on the 3 LP vinyl album, the other one is Tonite Reprise). It's amazing and should never have been left off the cd. I love this one too, though.

Crash Test Dummies – Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Lyrics 19 years ago
I never thought it was about child abuse. it's just how people feel like they have to fit in in spite of being different, like the kid with the white hair or the girl with the birthmarks. it's also about how the other kid has it worse because what happened to the first two were accidents or uncontrollable (they're birtmarks. birthmarks and bruises are not similar, so she couldn't say bruises were birthmarks.) But the other kid is being made different by his parents. It's uncertain whether he believes in god or not, but i think he probably doesn't.

I like the way THe Dolls reference other classic songs in their works. The Rolling Stones in this, the Doors on The Perfect Fit, etc. It's an interesting device. Great song this, really catchy.

The Frames – Friends And Foe Lyrics 20 years ago
This song has to be about the death of Mic Christopher after a performance. He was Glen Hansard's closest friend (they lived together in Dublin from when they were both sixteen for a few years). It was a tragic loss of talent, and this song is a beautiful testament to his memory.

Jane's Addiction – Jane Says Lyrics 20 years ago
This song always make me think of my best friend's sister for some reason. Not that she's a drug addict or a whore orr anything. But her name is Jane and she used to always seem very withdrawn, and I dunno, the song always seemed appropriate for her.

Madness – Baggy Trousers Lyrics 21 years ago
This song describes being in secondary school perfectly, even down to the way everyone dresses ("baggy trousers. dirty shirt").. In fact, it gets the feeling of being 14 and out to raise hell for fun and profit and makes it into the best ska song ever written. Funnily enough, except the headaster doesn't cane you anymore, nothing much has changed....

The Frames – Revelate Lyrics 21 years ago
It's about a destructive relationship. She is his 'revelation' but they run through the same arguments all the time ('my simple slant, this broken chant'). In the second verse he's trying to get her back with his open arms' and his 'lucky charm' (perhaps the charm in his nature that attracted her to him) but he's f**ked it up, and it's too great to fix. The chorus is about how he needs her, but the hurt that he gets from the relationship is all too much to take. The third verse is pretty self-explanatory, they've finally self destructed as a couple and he'd go back to her if he could ('I would ride to you this day, but it's all too great'). The final rendition of the chorus has a slightly different meaning, it's how he's saying he needs her now, even though he knows they hurt each other, and that 'sometimes it's easy just to hate you'.

The Frames – Fitzcarraldo Lyrics 21 years ago
All about that violin solo.....

It's hard to say what this song is about, but it seems to be about this guy who's in a relationship with this girl, and he sees that it's falling apart, and she won't let it go, but he doesn't want to let it go either. The lines 'I'm not going down here, this journey isn't over, it's a long way to the house of Fitzcarraldo' I think means that he's refusing to give up until they reach happiness, or at least some sort of conclusion they can both live with. In the last verse, it seems that they've finally fallen apart, she'll 'see him down in history' but it's the 'only way that we can grow'. The last lines at the climax of the song could be interpreted as their acceptance that they can't hold together anymore because 'it's a long way to Fitzcarraldo, and I don't want to pray for you in the name of something true...'

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Red Right Hand Lyrics 21 years ago
I always wondered if Nick Cave is a Stephwn King fan, because this song is a perfect description of Randall Flagg in The Stand. Everything about it is so perfect for that character, especially the lines 'On the gathering storm comes a tal handsome man in a dusty black coat with a red right hand.'
