There's one part of the song I really like... "And I liked the / Dimple in your chin / Your pale blue eyes." Skin would have rhymed perfectly instead of eyes... I actually thought that's what he was going to say the first time I heard the song. It might be about Cobain's health, or it might be perfect coincidence. Or something else. Kind of funny though. |

dont know if this has been said before. i didnt have the endurance to read the six pages of comments... sorry.
anyway the parallels between the song and the Book of Job are pretty interesting. 'he takes and he takes and he takes;' 'we lift our hands and pray over your body / but nothing ever happens.'
Job is continually challenged by God to test his faith, and eventually loses his wealth, family, and house, but never loses his faith in god. i think the song is about this ever-present situation in a religious person's life. that said, i don't think the lines that read 'all the glory' in its various situations are sarcastic. it about how this situation was a tragic test of his faith, and i dont think there is any anger present in it. |

im wondering why he calls the stalker 'beautiful.' it seems too artificial to dismiss it as some sort or narcissistic pride. it reminds me of a goldfinger song i heard once... |

| Sugarcult – Daddy's Little Defect Lyrics
| 20 years ago

this song isn't about a girl being abused by her father. its a song about the voice's girlfriend, and how she has let her father down. 'daddy's little defect' isn't referring to any abuse; rather it is the singer's view of his girlfriend's relationship with her father. she's rebellious, and has let him down much like many teenagers do to their parents.
the 'gift-wrapped guilt trip' is the father trying to be gentle and loving towards his daughter, while at the same time making her feel like shit for letting him down. it says '... left you naked on your bed,' and in this case 'naked' does not mean literally naked, but emotionally vulnerable.
the song repeats 'keep your secrets away from me / if you want to be mine,' which means that the voice does not want to be burdened by his girlfriend's emotional baggage. the girlfriend has let her father down, and has a deteriorating relationship with her father. in spite of this, the voice says that it doesn't want to know. kind of like 'hey, thats your problem, not mine.' |

I love this song. Also, brim is right in that the song is about sex. brim's just too stupid to know why. Also, brim is correct in asserting that punk rockers 'have fucking meaning.' Anarchy and 'agaisnt the man' (hard typo to re-create), however, are meaningless concepts to satisfy angst-filled teenie-boppers. I hate you, brim. |

The song is... mediocre. I have a problem with the people it appeals to. You all think you're so cool because you got caught with alcohol. Good job sucking, losers. I love Blink. I hate their fans. Except for me, but that too changes periodically. |

ha. there isnt much here to comment on, but the song was rather entertaining. i dont think its meant to be taken too seriously.
by the way, ive seen quiffporn on four out of five songs that ive looked at. he hasnt had anything nice to say... which leads me to believe that he spends all day and night researching ways to insult bands. too much porn, not enough life. |

damn... this song is great... it develops a single thought throughout the song:
(What I really wanna say, I can't define \ ...\What I really wanna say, is I've got mine) it doesnt mess with you the way a lot of music does. the meaning isnt in your face, but isnt so buried in metaphor that it cant be revealed. its written about something we've all experienced - that being the feelings of heartbreak and revenge. its not a corny, 'i love you, come back to me' song. it sucessfully recreates the speaker's feelings, to the point where you almost feel involved. wonderful rhythm, wonderful melody, and wonderful poetry. Thank you, Sublime. |

just a note on a previous comment - hillel slovak, the original lead in the group, died from a heroine overdose in '88. its a stretch, but the song may be some sort of tribute to him. |
