Radiohead – Just Lyrics 1 month ago
@[nomishood:50264] I mean....I wrote that 19 years ago ha ha ha but tbh if I read it back it sounds like I'm actually agreeing with you...me from 19 years ago is saying I take the meaning of the song to be "do something if you're not happy, it's not that hard to change things for yourself" but I didn't think things were that simple so I didn't agree with the writer.

So to recap, me from 19 years ago is saying what I think the meaning of the song is and, I can't stress this enough, me from 19 years ago is NOT saying that everyone should just solve all their problems because they're not that hard to solve.

That said, I want to die of cringe reading my comment from 19 years ago :D I mentioned Sartre.

The Kinks – Waterloo Sunset Lyrics 19 years ago
" dunno if hes talkin about a certain place"

there's an underground (subway) station in London called Waterloo, right next to the Thames. Ray Davies grew up in London.........this song is said to be about his feelings for the place.

The song can work with anywhere, it just sounds so familiar from the first time you hear it, i guess it just naturally conjures up images of wherever you call home.

btw, as usual, it's better live.

Radiohead – I Might Be Wrong Lyrics 19 years ago
WOW.....i've never been able to crack this song.....but the religion thing is so obvious now, especially from the title. It IS about an atheist, or agnostic.....basically someone who doesn't believe in a god figure but also says "i might be wrong on that". the lyrics fit so well.

it could also swing the other way, be about a religious person who has doubts.....but I don't think that's an angle Thom Yorke would approach a song from. Doesn't mean you can't look at it both ways-makes the song even better that way as it conveys how interchangeable beliefs can be.

btw, i can't believe that people can still find messages about relationships in radiohead songs-nothing wrong with it, i'm even slightly envious.

Radiohead – Electioneering Lyrics 19 years ago
btw, i used to think "trust i can rely on" was "just like candlelight". kinda fits anyway, what with candlelight having no substance and having a flickering nature and meaning (much like the electioneerer's words).

Radiohead – Electioneering Lyrics 19 years ago
It's also about how Thom sees doing loads of gigs and appearing on TV all the time as "electioneering" his work.

It's one of the best radiohead moments when it comes out of the chorus to "Riot Shields, Voodoo Economics....it's just business, cattle prods and the IIIIIIMMMMMFFFF, trust I can rely on...." completely brilliant, would have been a massive single and might have made the proles think for once. But we don't want that, do we?

Radiohead – Just Lyrics 19 years ago
This is basically existentialism in a pop song. "You do it to yourself, just you, you and noone else". We're all completely alone and as a result are entirely responsible for our own actions.

Well, that's what Sartre would say, but he's not here. I don't really agree with us all being entirely responsible for our own actions, so I choose to look at this song as saying "get off your arse and do something if you're not happy, it's not that hard to change things for yourself". As I've said, that's not what I think it was written about but I differ from the writer greatly (i assume it was cheifly Thom) in my beliefs on the matter.

If anyone's ever commuted by train everyday, and listened to this song while looking out the window.......you appreciate it in the way i do.

Radiohead – Like Spinning Plates Lyrics 19 years ago
I read somewhere it's about children being trapped in wars. The final line backs that up.....and also the line about pretty speeches. You could extend the children analogy to the innocent in general.

Has anyone seen the video? I'm trying to download it from somewhere, but to no avail.

This is one of the best live songs I've ever seen. The crowd just seemed to be silent, even though they never are.

Radiohead – A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll) Lyrics 19 years ago
This song rules. I thought it might be Ed singing the low bits, but I hoped that out of a plead for a change from Thom more than anything.

This, Myxomatosis and go to sleep are the best songs on the album I reckon. The final verse of this is just brilliant. I'm sure if they'd have released any of those three over the drab There There they'd have had a UK No.1 on their hands....i guess that's why they didn't!!!!

Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics 19 years ago
There's no way I can read all that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the great thing about Radiohead....so many people have so many views on their songs.

This song sounds like the world falling down, and that's what it's about for me, the perils of the information age....more information has led to more ignorance and naivety.

There's an interesting idea I've spotted on this site.....about how Kid A is a concept album about someone's life possibly the Yorker's.

Not sure on that entirely, but with Everything....place (birth, sucking lemons=baby crying etc.), motion picture soundtrack ("the song you hear when you go to heaven") at either end I start to become a little more supportive of that idea. Idioteque could be about a mid-life crisis.....a realisation of existence, i dunno. Any ideas on where this song would fit on the concept album idea?

Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics 19 years ago
It's similar to Coffee and TV by Blur......they're both about getting your head down and getting on with your life, not worrying about anything else. On one side, it's a criticism of people, of naivety, hypocrisy and ignorance.

On the other side it's a thumbs up to those people-don't stick your neck out and confront your own mortality and you won't get stung by the existential bug.

This is brilliant, I'd really love to cover this live at Glastonbury. A cracking rock song.

The Beatles – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Lyrics 19 years ago
Lennon wrote this song in full knowledge that it conjures up images of drug use and childhood innocence. That's kinda the point.

I love this song so much because it recreates the dreams of my childhood. Drug use doesn't really come into it for me, it's not where i'm coming from.

The Kinks – I'm Not Like Everybody Else Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of their best songs. I think if it was covered nowadays it would go down very well. I can totally see Jack White screeching through this, guiter wailing away.

I really think that this song is about the futility of saying that you're not like everybody else......we're all the same if you look at things a certain way.....and sometimes you can't avoid looking at it that way.

This could have been a really iconic 60s song if it'd been released at the right time, and been a fully-fleged A side. Also, as I always say, if the Kinks hadn't been banned from the US they would have been as big as the Beatles and I wouldn't be the only one to have commented on this classic record. Sigh.
