the velvet underground/nico album artwork was meant to look phallic. that's why it has the "peel slowly and see" arrow next to the banana peel. everybody who bought the album in the sixties was expecting to see a big penis underneath the banana, but instead you get just a pink banana. |

| The White Stripes – Fell In Love With A Girl Lyrics

or..... it's from the point of view of a man, the girl is just a skank who lies to him, saying her boyfriend doesn't care. "fell in love once and almost completely", could mean he's just gotten out of relationship and now has feelings for this girl. "she's in love with the world", could be a nicer way of saying she's a slut. "sometimes these feelings can be so misleading", because he's not sure if he should trust this girl as much as he wants to. in the end he ends up still in love with the girl who was a hoe, only "looking for something new." |

this is a fucking great tune. too bad the stripes aren't making songs like this anymore. anyway, i always thought this song was about him falling in love with some skank. but now that i think about it more, i really think it could be about lesbianism. the whole line "i fell in love once and almost completely" could be about a failed love with a man. now she's turned to the same sex. "sometimes these feelings can be so misleading", could be talking about this girl's uncertainty of becoming a lesbian. The next part of the song clearly seems to be a conversation between the two girls, one of whom is very nervous ("my heart's still beating"), and one who is just "looking for something new." the whole thing about the other girl's boyfriend not considering it cheating makes sense. and by the end of the song it seems the "love is fleeting." she's still in love with this chick, but the chick was only looking for something new. |

The way I have enterpreted this is that he loves this person, but he cannot let them love him and they probably have somebody else anyway. |

Infatuation with Mariyln Burns or perhaps Teri McMinn? (they are the two actresses who play the two female characters in the original 1974 version The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) |

I believe this song might be about loving somebody who does not love you back and giving up on the idea of being with them because you know it's worthless. The first verse describes the beauty of this person. The second verse describes how badly he wants to be with them and I think the line "you take me in your arms and start to burn" symbolizes him coming to the realization that it's never going to be. I also think the line "then the heat disappears and the mirage fades away" means that he's lost all hope of being with this particular person. His visions of being with this person were just a mirage and now he's realizing that. |

Nostalgia and regret.... Everything changes and you realize the past is almost always better than the present in most situations. This song and "Insight" seem to share the same meaning. |

I think this song is about giving up on life. Just completely losing interest and hope, and looking back on the past and wishing you had done something productive with your time rather than wasting it. I think when Ian said "I'm not afraid anymore" he was saying that he no longer feared death. I also think that "I keep my eyes on the door" might be a metaphor for considering suicide. |
